BuildFolio turns project notes into a personal website you can preview and export as static files. To make that portfolio public, export the ZIP, extract its files, and upload them to a static host; BuildFolio’s repository lists Netlify, Vercel, and GitHub Pages as options. If you want to share a tutorial with Arduino’s community instead, submit it to Project Hub, where publication is subject to review.
What BuildFolio does—and what happens to your content
BuildFolio describes itself as a browser-based tool to “Build, preview, and export beautiful personal websites directly in your browser.” Its repository says the generator runs client-side, saves typed content in your browser’s local storage, requires no sign-up, and exports generated HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in a ZIP file. These are the project’s documented claims; they have not been independently tested here. BuildFolio repository

Local storage means your saved content is associated with the browser you used, rather than being described as an account-based cloud backup. Before switching browsers or clearing browser data, export your site ZIP and keep a separate copy of your project text and images. The repository documents ZIP export, but does not establish a separate cloud-sync or backup service.
Build a portfolio that makes each project understandable
A portfolio is most useful when it helps a visitor understand not just what you made, but how and why you made it. A consistent project page structure also makes several builds feel like one maker’s body of work rather than unrelated notes.
#1 Best Overall
- 35+ Guided Electronics Projects: Progress from LEDs and buttons to RFID access, real-time clocks, motion and distance sensing, environmental monitoring, motor control and interactive displays for STEM learning, coding clubs and maker projects

Include the details a reader needs to follow the build
- Purpose: State the problem, idea, or question behind the project.
- Board and components: Name the Arduino board and the important sensors, modules, or other parts. If you are uncertain about a board or software detail, verify it in Arduino’s official documentation, which organizes hardware, Cloud, software, programming, and community resources.
- Code: Link to the project code or repository where readers can inspect it. Explain any important setup or configuration rather than assuming the code speaks for itself.
- Build steps: Describe the connections, assembly, and software setup needed to reproduce the result.
- Outcome: Show what worked, what the finished project does, and any important limitations or changes you made along the way.
- Original photos: Use clear images of the actual build, including useful close-ups. Captions can identify components or show a result that is difficult to explain in text.
This is a practical editorial checklist, not a formal Arduino or BuildFolio requirement. Arduino Project Hub’s live collection includes tutorials, showcases, getting-started examples, and projects using Arduino and other platforms, illustrating that project descriptions can take different forms. Its displayed project count changes over time, so it should not be treated as a fixed total. Arduino Project Hub
Export the site and make it public
BuildFolio’s repository describes a simple static-site publishing sequence. Hosting is a separate step: exporting a ZIP creates site files, but does not by itself put the portfolio on a public web address.

The sequence and host names above reflect BuildFolio’s repository guidance, not tested deployment instructions or an endorsement by any hosting provider. Each provider may have its own account, configuration, and publishing steps.
BuildFolio or Arduino Project Hub?
These routes serve different purposes. A personal site can gather multiple builds under one maker’s identity, while Project Hub is a community venue organized around sharing individual project tutorials and descriptions. The distinction follows from the platforms’ stated roles; it is not a claim about their relative reach or results.

Arduino Help Center describes Project Hub as “a website for sharing tutorials and descriptions of projects made with Arduino boards.” Its help page explains that users can create an account and upload projects, which are assessed against content guidelines before publication. Arduino Help Center
The community route is active, but its published-project figures should be read in context. Arduino’s 2024 Open Source Report says 368 new open-source tutorials were added to Project Hub during 2024, an 80% increase compared with 2023. The report says this counts projects approved and published after quality review and moderation—not all submissions, unique contributors, or BuildFolio users. Arduino’s 2023 report counted 205 new open-source tutorials added during that calendar year, under the same approved-and-published framing. Do you need to buy anything to use BuildFolio?
No additional Arduino hardware is required for BuildFolio’s documented browser-to-ZIP workflow. A starter kit is relevant only if you still need components to make the project you plan to document. Arduino’s documentation site is a starting point for finding official hardware and software information, but check the documentation for your specific board and parts when confirming compatibility.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA practical choice
Choose BuildFolio when you want one independently hosted home for several builds and are comfortable handling the separate export-and-hosting step. Choose Project Hub when your priority is submitting a project tutorial or description to Arduino’s community platform and you accept its review process. You can also use both: maintain a personal portfolio as your collection and submit selected, self-contained tutorials to Project Hub.
