Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse a small Python script to turn a product photo, a technical drawing, and structured product details into a shareable two-page PDF. The example workflow uses ReportLab to lay out the pages and Pillow to prepare images; it is a practical starting point for a small team, not a universal or automatically production-ready tech-pack system.
What the script puts in the PDF
The tutorial’s example produces a landscape A4 document with two pages. Its first page pairs a product photo with a line drawing marked by numbered callouts. Its second page presents a bill of materials (BOM), measurement points with tolerances, and revision history. A header carries identifiers such as style number, name, season, revision, date, and page count. The tutorial describes a 175-line script; that length is specific to its example, not a requirement for this kind of tool.

The script reads image files and a style.json file, so product content is separated from layout code. The example folder uses an optional photo.jpg, a lineart.png, and JSON fields for the header, callouts, BOM entries, measurement points, and revisions.

Prepare the files and product data
Organize the input folder
photo.jpg: an optional product photo for the first page.lineart.png: the line drawing that the script places beside the photo.style.json: structured values for the document header and specification tables.
Keep the drawing and its callout labels in agreement with the written specifications. A numbered pin is only useful when its number points to the correct entry; update the drawing and JSON together whenever a callout changes.
#1 Best Overall
Keep sample values visibly hypothetical
The tutorial’s example uses a drill, but its materials and dimensions are explicitly placeholders, not validated product specifications. Replace them with approved product data before sharing a pack, and label draft or illustrative values so they cannot be mistaken for manufacturing instructions.
Install the libraries and run the workflow
The tutorial author reports using Python 3.13.3, ReportLab 4.5.1, Pillow 12.2.0, and PyMuPDF 1.27.2.3 for the example run. These are the versions reported for that run, not a claim that they are the latest releases or a guarantee of compatibility in another environment. PyMuPDF is used for previewing the generated PDF; ReportLab and Pillow support creation and image preparation.

- Install the packages in the Python environment you intend to use:
pip install reportlab pillow pymupdf - Put the input images and completed
style.jsonin the folder expected by the script. Check that each JSON field used by the layout exists and contains the right data type. - Run the script from that project folder using the filename and command provided with your copy of the tutorial. The tutorial does not specify a particular script filename or command, so do not assume one.
- Open the resulting PDF and inspect both pages at full size. Check page orientation, image cropping, callout numbering, table legibility, dates, revision labels, and whether content is clipped.
How image preparation affects the output
For line art, the tutorial crops excess white margins and converts the image to a compact 1-bit form. For product photos, it preserves JPEG image bytes. ReportLab’s documentation covers drawing text, shapes, and images onto a PDF canvas, and its user guide recommends drawImage for placing images; it also documents caching when an image is reused. See the ReportLab user guide and PDF generation documentation.

The tutorial reports a smaller PDF after its image-preparation steps, but that result belongs to its particular sample files and settings. The reduction is not a guaranteed outcome. Cropping and converting line art can reduce unnecessary image data, while re-encoding or downsampling photos may affect fidelity; inspect the final drawing and photo rather than optimizing file size alone.

What this example covers—and what may be missing
This workflow covers style information, a single line drawing with callouts, a BOM, measurements and tolerances for one size, and revision history. It does not supply a grading chart or cost sheet. A one-size measurement table is not a substitute for a graded specification when production requires multiple sizes.
There is no single mandatory tech-pack checklist for every product. Techpacker’s guide notes that contents depend on the product and its design. Other useful references include the fashion tech-pack schema repository and Shopify’s tech-pack guide, which discuss additional information such as colorways, construction, sample stages, care instructions, labeling, and packaging. Treat these as prompts to confirm requirements with the manufacturer, not as a universal checklist.

Review the pack before sending it
- Confirm the style identity, season, revision, and date are correct and consistent across pages.
- Verify that each callout number matches its written description and points to the intended feature.
- Check that BOM materials and measurement values are approved, with units and tolerances clear.
- Add missing product-specific views, construction notes, grading, cost information, labeling, care, or packaging details if the recipient requires them.
- Make sure the revision log identifies what changed; a PDF without a reliable revision trail can be confused with an outdated version.
- Ask the intended supplier which file format and fields it needs before treating the generated document as production-ready.
A local script offers control over a straightforward layout and lets a team maintain product data as JSON, but it also leaves schema design, validation, and supplier-specific completeness to the team. The example establishes a useful PDF-generation pattern, not a comparison against dedicated tech-pack software or a guarantee that one format fits every supplier.
