Knack lets you build business apps without writing code, and its AI builder can turn a plain-language description into a first draft of an app. But “15 minutes” is a marketing claim, not a verified promise that a complete, secure production system will be ready that quickly. For a simple tracker or portal, it may be a useful starting point; fitting it to your data, permissions, workflows, and integrations takes additional work.
What you can build with Knack
Knack describes itself as a hosted no-code platform for business applications and online databases. Its materials promote uses such as client portals, operations dashboards, inventory or production trackers, patient-intake trackers, CRM tools, and workflow-based internal apps. These are examples from the company, not independent evaluations of how well a particular setup will serve your organization.

The basic fit is a process that can be represented with connected records, forms, pages, user roles, and automations. A request tracker, for example, might connect customer records to submitted requests, assign each request a status, and show staff a dashboard. A client portal might expose selected records to clients while keeping internal notes private. The more unusual the process, the more important it is to check that the builder’s available logic and controls match it.

Knack says its AI Builder starts from a natural-language description and generates an initial database, forms, workflows, and interface. The company gives an invoice generator with an approval workflow as an example prompt. From there, the builder reviews and adjusts the generated app in a visual editor.

- Describe the process. Explain who will use the app, what information it needs to store, and what should happen at each step. A concrete prompt might describe an invoice submission, an approver, and the decision or status that should be recorded.
- Review the first draft. Check that the generated records and fields reflect the real data, and that forms and pages support the tasks users need to complete.
- Customize the app. Adjust fields, pages, roles, and logic. Test ordinary cases as well as exceptions, such as missing information, rejected approvals, or a user who should not see a record.
- Check operational requirements. Before inviting users or relying on the app, confirm plan capacity, access controls, integrations, and any security or compliance needs.
This is Knack’s stated product flow, not a verified hands-on walkthrough. AI-generated structure can provide a starting point; it does not establish that the app’s data model, permissions, or edge cases are correct for your business.
What the “15 minutes” claim means
Knack’s business-operations page says nontechnical builders can create an app in as little as 15 minutes. Its AI App Builder page makes a different claim: that it can create a first version in under one minute. These are company marketing statements with different scopes. No independent timed test was found to verify either claim, and neither should be read as a guarantee that a finished, secure, production-ready application will be running in that time.

The distinction is between generating a draft and preparing a dependable tool for real work. Time to readiness depends on the quality of the prompt, the shape and condition of the data, the number of user types, the complexity of the workflow, and the integrations or safeguards required. A small, familiar process may be quick to prototype. A system involving sensitive data, many exceptions, or strict access requirements deserves a careful review and testing period.

- Data structure: Can the app represent the records and relationships you need, rather than forcing important details into awkward workarounds?
- Access: Can each user type see and change only the information appropriate to their role?
- Workflow: Can the app handle approvals, status changes, notifications, and exceptions your process requires?
- Connections: Are the integrations or API capabilities you need available on the plan you are considering?
- Use and oversight: Do the interface, reporting, file handling, mobile access, and change-history features suit the way people will operate and maintain the app?
How to choose a Knack plan
Knack’s current pricing page lists Starter, Pro, Corporate, and Enterprise. Plan details differ across record capacity, application count, storage, custom domains, change-history retention, SSO, and related capabilities. The page also says there is no per-seat limit for app users, but each user counts as a database record. That means “unlimited users” does not mean capacity is irrelevant: include user records when estimating the app’s record needs.
Prices and promotional offers can change, so check the live pricing page rather than relying on a cached figure. Compare the plan details against the app you intend to run:

- Expected database records, including user records
- Number of apps and required storage
- Need for a custom domain

When this approach is a good starting point
A no-code builder is worth exploring when the work is primarily organizing business data and moving it through a clear sequence of forms, roles, and decisions. Start with one well-defined workflow, then validate the generated structure and permissions before expanding its use. If the app handles regulated or especially sensitive information, or requires highly specialized behavior, verify the necessary controls and obligations before choosing a platform or putting real data into it.
Knack CEO Derek Hutson said in the company’s AI-builder announcement, “Anyone can just describe what they need and get a live app in minutes, without worrying about backend hosting or maintaining code.” That statement describes the company’s pitch; it is not independent evidence that a particular business app will be production-ready in 15 minutes.
