If you need hosted full-page screenshot capture without Browserless, start with ScreenshotNeo, ScreenshotOne, and Urlbox. ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try: it removes common cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture, and failed or unusable captures are not billed. For more control over browser behavior, use a Playwright workflow—but note that the Browserless example in the documentation still runs on Browserless infrastructure.
What to compare before switching
A full-page screenshot is not just a taller version of a viewport capture. Sites may load images and content as the page scrolls, while sticky headers and fixed elements can behave differently in a long image. Compare each option on the pages and templates you actually capture, using the same target viewport.
- Capture method: Does the service use a browser’s native full-page feature, or scroll and combine sections?
- Lazy-loaded content: Does it scroll the page or otherwise trigger content that loads on demand?
- Layout behavior: Check sticky and fixed elements, long pages, and content that changes while loading.
- Controls and operations: Compare rendering options, the amount of code you must maintain, and whether you want to operate browser infrastructure.
Vendor descriptions of speed and reliability are product claims, not independent comparative benchmarks. No comparative reliability measurements or pricing for the alternatives below are established here.
Browserless alternatives at a glance
| Option | Documented full-page approach | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | Hosted screenshot API; supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded. | You want a hosted API with consent-banner and popup cleanup, and clear billing verdicts for captures. |
| ScreenshotOne | Hosted API; supports full_page=true and an optional section-based algorithm that scrolls and combines sections. |
You want to compare its default behavior with section-based capture and tune output for your page templates. The vendor notes that quality tuning may reduce performance. |
| Urlbox | Hosted service with stitch and native modes. Stitch scrolls, triggers lazy-loaded content, freezes fixed and sticky elements, and combines sections. Native uses browser-native full-page capture and is described by Urlbox as faster but less reliable on some sites. | You need a choice between scroll-and-stitch handling and native capture, and can test which suits your layouts. |
| Playwright workflow | Browser automation can call page.screenshot({ fullPage: true }). The documented Browserless example connects Playwright to a Browserless browser. |
You want code-level control over navigation and capture steps. That example does not demonstrate self-hosting; investigate deployment separately if operating your own browser is a requirement. |
1. ScreenshotNeo: hosted API with clean captures
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, along with controls such as viewport and device presets, wait conditions, custom CSS or JavaScript, and selector-based element capture. For a full list of options, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

Its distinguishing capture behavior is aimed at clean screenshots: before capture, it accepts consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets. Each cleanup step can be turned off. Responses identify page verdict and billing status with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers; bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing.
2. ScreenshotOne: compare full-page and section capture
ScreenshotOne documents full-page capture through full_page=true and an optional by_sections algorithm. The section approach scrolls and combines portions of the page, which can help expose content that appears only as the page is traversed. ScreenshotOne cautions that tuning for better quality can reduce performance. Check the current full-page screenshot guide and screenshot options for exact parameters and behavior.
3. Urlbox: choose stitch or native mode
Urlbox documents two full-page modes. Its default stitch mode scrolls the page to trigger lazy loading, freezes fixed and sticky elements, and assembles sections. Native mode uses the browser’s native full-page screenshot functionality; Urlbox describes it as faster but less reliable on some sites. Those are vendor characterizations, not results of an independent side-by-side test. Review Urlbox’s screenshots documentation and compare both modes on representative pages.

4. Playwright: code-first capture, not automatically self-hosted
Playwright gives a developer a browser automation workflow and a direct full-page screenshot call. However, the cited Browserless example uses Playwright connected to Browserless. It is useful as an example of a code-driven capture, but it does not establish a separate self-hosted Browserless alternative.

Minimal full-page capture call
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
This line assumes you already have a configured Playwright page and browser. For a complete deployment, install and run Playwright with your chosen browser environment, navigate to the target page, wait for the page state you need, and then capture. The exact installation and browser-hosting steps depend on that environment; they are not specified by the Browserless example.
How to test alternatives on your pages
- Select representative URLs: include a short static page, a long page with lazy-loaded images, a page with sticky navigation, and a page with content that appears after interaction or delay.
- Fix the target viewport: use the same viewport dimensions and device scale wherever the service allows it.
- Run the documented full-page method: compare ScreenshotOne’s section option, Urlbox stitch and native modes, or the corresponding controls offered by your chosen API.
- Inspect the whole image: look for missing below-the-fold content, repeated or misplaced sticky elements, blank sections, and layout shifts.
- Repeat on dynamic pages: loading order and page state can change the result. Record the capture settings alongside the output so the comparison is reproducible.
This procedure helps determine fit for your own pages; it does not imply a universal speed or reliability ranking.

Common full-page capture problems
Content below the fold is missing
A full-page flag alone may not trigger every lazy-loaded image or scroll-activated section. Use a scroll-aware or section-based mode where available, and verify that the resulting image contains the expected content. Browserless documents a scrollPage: true option; Urlbox says its default stitch mode scrolls, and ScreenshotOne exposes scrolling controls and section capture.
Sticky headers appear in the wrong place or more than once
Long captures can expose differences in how fixed and sticky elements are handled. Urlbox says stitch mode freezes these elements, but check the output against your actual page templates rather than assuming all layouts behave the same way.
Native and stitched images differ on a tall or dynamic page
Native resize-style capture and scroll-and-stitch capture can produce different results, especially where content changes during scrolling. Compare the modes at the same viewport and on the same dynamic page before choosing one.

A Playwright example still depends on Browserless
The documented example connects Playwright to a Browserless browser. If your reason for switching is to stop using Browserless infrastructure, that example alone does not meet the requirement; choose a hosted alternative or establish a separate browser deployment path.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a full-page screenshot always include lazy-loaded content?
No. It depends on whether capture triggers the scrolling or loading behavior that reveals that content; verify the output on the target page.
Does the Browserless Playwright example show how to self-host a browser?
No. It shows Playwright connecting to Browserless, so it demonstrates a code workflow using Browserless infrastructure.
