Playwright takes the screenshots; BrowserCat supplies managed cloud browsers that Playwright can connect to. For bulk capture, use Playwright on infrastructure you control when environment control matters or you already operate browser workers. Consider BrowserCat when you want a hosted execution layer and less browser infrastructure to manage. Neither choice guarantees faster captures: compare them on your pages, settings, completion rate, latency and total cost.
What each tool does
Playwright: browser automation and capture
Playwright can navigate pages and capture screenshots through its Page screenshot API. You can save a viewport or full-page image to a file, or return image bytes for processing or storage elsewhere. Playwright is not itself a hosted browser fleet: if you run it on your own infrastructure, you provision and maintain the machines and browser workers.
BrowserCat: managed browser execution
BrowserCat provides hosted browser infrastructure that accepts Playwright connections. Its quick start and Playwright integration guide show how to connect to the service. BrowserCat describes its offering as a single endpoint with backend routing on its homepage; that is the vendor’s description, not an independent performance measure.

How to capture a batch with Playwright
For a modest batch, a small script can visit each URL and save a full-page screenshot. Install Playwright and its Chromium browser first (for example, with npm install playwright followed by npx playwright install chromium). Save the following as capture.mjs, then run it with node capture.mjs. It creates one PNG per URL in a local screenshots directory.

}This deliberately processes URLs sequentially to keep the example bounded and to avoid uncontrolled pressure on target sites. For larger batches, distribute independent jobs across a controlled number of workers rather than opening an unbounded number of pages at once. Use unique output names (or a sanitized URL plus a unique identifier) so duplicate or concurrent jobs cannot overwrite each other’s files. Record each URL’s result so failures can be retried without repeating successful captures.

Parallelize carefully
Playwright Test parallelism uses worker processes and lets you configure the worker count. Sharding can divide eligible test work across machines. Parallel jobs need isolated state: workers do not share state, and shared accounts, data or file paths can collide. Set concurrency deliberately, and shard only jobs that can run independently.
Make screenshots reproducible
Visual output can change with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware and headless mode. Playwright’s visual comparison guidance recommends keeping the environment consistent when generating baselines. For bulk captures, keep viewport, browser build, device scale and other capture settings fixed when results need to be compared over time.

Connecting Playwright to BrowserCat
When you choose BrowserCat, keep the same Playwright navigation and screenshot logic where possible and change the browser connection to the endpoint and credentials specified in BrowserCat’s current Playwright integration instructions. Endpoint details and account-specific limits should come from the provider’s live documentation; they are not reproduced here because they may change. Test the connection with a small representative batch before moving the whole workload.
Include pages that reflect the work you actually need to do: different page lengths and viewport sizes, full-page captures, authenticated pages if relevant, and required regions. Compare completion rate, latency distribution, output consistency, total browser time and cost. Do not assume that an advertised maximum concurrency is sustainable for full-page captures of arbitrary sites.

Estimate BrowserCat cost from the real workload
BrowserCat’s pricing page currently describes a free Hobby plan with 1,000 monthly credits and displays 1,000 concurrent requests on its tiers. It says successful Utility API requests cost one credit each, while WebSocket sessions are charged in 30-second increments. These are time-sensitive vendor pricing statements, not a guaranteed conversion from credits to screenshots. Overage and account-limit rules are also described on the live pricing page.
For a useful estimate, run a representative sample, distinguish the request type you use, measure session duration where applicable, and apply the current pricing rules to the expected monthly volume. A screenshot’s cost cannot be inferred from the credit allowance alone without knowing how the workflow uses the service and how long browser sessions run.

Common bulk-capture problems and fixes
- Navigation times out: A page may be slow or blocked. Log the URL and error, retry transient failures with a limit, and avoid treating every timeout as a successful capture.
- Files overwrite one another: Concurrent workers may target the same path. Give every URL/job a deterministic unique filename and keep output directories or storage keys isolated.
- Results differ between runs: Browser build, operating system, headless mode, hardware or viewport settings may differ. Pin and record the capture environment and settings before comparing images.
- More workers do not improve useful throughput: High concurrency can strain your own workers or the target sites. Increase concurrency gradually, track completion and latency, and cap it at a sustainable level.
- BrowserCat usage is hard to predict: Utility requests and WebSocket session time follow different credit rules. Identify which path your integration uses and calculate with measured session duration and the live pricing rules.
- Parallel runs collide on state: Workers do not share state, while external accounts, test data or files may still be shared. Isolate per-job data and use only work that can safely run independently.
Which should you choose?
Run Playwright on your infrastructure if you need direct control of the browser environment or already have workers to operate. Evaluate BrowserCat if managed cloud-browser capacity could reduce that infrastructure burden and its current configuration, limits and cost fit your workload. In either case, decide from a representative batch rather than an assumed speed advantage: no independent comparison establishes which is faster for bulk screenshots.
