ActiClean is Braun’s name for the descaling system.
Braun says the FreeGlide 3D soleplate is curved upward to move over buttons and pockets, and that the precision tip helps reach collars and seams. What does the independent listing establish?
CHOICE has a listing for the SI 9684 that identifies an anodised soleplate, 2.5 m cord, 1.4 kg weight, stated wattage of 2000–2400 W, and automatic shutoff after 1 minute horizontally or 8 minutes vertically. It also lists China as the country of origin and a 2-year warranty. Braun lists the iron at 2400 W; CHOICE’s broader wattage range is preserved here as CHOICE states it, rather than treated as the same specification.
CHOICE marks the model as tested, but its rating, performance and ease-of-use scores, reliability and satisfaction information, and test results are member-only. The public listing therefore cannot support a claim that the iron earned a particular score or performed well or poorly in CHOICE’s tests. What do owners report, and what can’t that tell you?
One ProductReview.com.au reviewer reported that the iron dripped despite the steam settings, found a switch awkward to use left-handed, and had difficulty removing creases from linen. The reviewer also said Braun responded and that they obtained a refund. This account is useful as a possible concern to weigh, but one review cannot establish how common the experience is, identify its cause, or show a model-wide defect. Is the SI 9684 a good choice?
On published specifications, this model offers a substantial set of convenience features: automatic temperature modes, a large stated steam shot, a curved soleplate design, anti-drip, auto-off and a descaling reminder. Those features may appeal if you want one iron for different fabrics and frequent ironing, but the supplied public evidence does not show how effectively they translate into wrinkle removal, smooth handling, leak prevention or long-term reliability.

If independent test performance is decisive for you, CHOICE’s public listing is not enough to make that judgment without access to its member-only results. Treat Braun’s specifications as product claims and the single owner complaint as an anecdote, rather than either as a substitute for accessible comparative testing.
