The Bose SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) is the better-supported choice for wet or dusty outings, with an IP67 rating. The original Anker SoundCore mini (A3101) is more versatile for playback: it supports microSD, AUX and FM radio, and includes a microphone for calls. Anker claims about 15 hours of playback; Bose claims up to 12 hours under specified conditions. These are different manufacturers’ estimates, not results from a controlled comparison.
Model identity matters: this comparison is about Bose’s second-generation Micro and Anker’s original A3101—not the first-generation Bose or later Soundcore Mini models.

Which one is better for outdoor or wet use?
The Bose SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) has the clearer documented advantage for dust or water exposure: Bose rates it IP67. But water resistance does not mean flotation. Bose explicitly states, “No, the SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) will sink; it does not float.” Keep that in mind around pools, lakes and boats.

Which speaker offers more ways to play music?
Anker SoundCore mini A3101: more than Bluetooth
The A3101 supports Bluetooth, microSD playback, AUX input and FM radio. That makes it useful when you want to play stored audio or connect a wired source instead of relying only on Bluetooth. For FM radio, connect the micro USB cable: Anker’s Japanese product page says, “FMラジオを使用する際は、micro USBケーブルを接続してください” (“When using FM radio, connect the micro USB cable.”).

Can you use either speaker for phone calls?
The A3101 has a built-in microphone for calls. Bose lists no microphone for the SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen), so that generation is not a speakerphone option. This distinction is specific to the second-generation Bose model and should not be applied automatically to earlier versions.

- Wireless Bluetooth streaming
- 12 hours of playtime
- IPX7 waterproof
- Pair multiple speakers with party boost
- Premium JBL sound quality
How do their battery life and charging compare?
Anker lists about 15 hours of playback for the A3101 and notes that actual time depends on conditions. Bose’s “up to 12 hours” claim for the second-generation Micro is based on Bluetooth A2DP at 50% volume under the temperature and audio-content conditions described in its owner’s guide. Bose also says maximum-volume playback can be up to 3 hours. The claims use different test conditions, so the nominal 15-versus-12-hour difference does not establish which lasts longer in a particular listening session.
The Bose charges over USB-C. Its guide and support specifications give up to 4 hours for a full charge with the specified power supply. The A3101 uses micro USB; its cable also serves as the FM radio antenna, so radio use requires connecting it.

Are they equally portable?
Both are compact speakers, and their published measurements describe different shapes: Bose gives a roughly 4.1 × 4.1 × 1.7-inch profile and about 0.725 lb, while Anker lists the A3101 at about 67 × 67 × 67 mm and 215 g. Bose includes a utility strap as part of the design, which may be more useful than a small difference in dimensions when you want to attach a speaker to a bag or similar gear.
Which should you choose?
- Choose Bose SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) if documented IP67 dust and water protection, USB-C charging or the strap-oriented design matters most. Remember that it does not float.
- Choose Anker SoundCore mini A3101 if you want microSD, AUX or FM radio playback, or a built-in microphone for calls.
- Compare local prices before buying. The product pages available for this comparison show region-specific listings, not a reliable like-for-like price comparison across markets.
There is not enough evidence here to name a sound-quality winner: the manufacturer information does not establish which sounds better in direct listening, and no independent head-to-head listening test is available in these sources.
