This comparison is about the Bose Smart Soundbar 300 and Bose Smart Soundbar 700, not the separate Bose Home Speaker 300. The short answer: the 700 is the larger, more feature-rich soundbar on paper, while the 300 offers a simpler set of TV connections and streaming features. Both are discontinued, so condition and seller terms matter as much as the model comparison.

Which one has the stronger sound-feature set?
Smart Soundbar 700
The 700 has seven speakers to the 300’s five. Speaker count alone does not prove which bar will sound better in a particular room, but Bose documented additional sound technologies for the 700. In its 2018 launch announcement, Bose described ADAPTiQ as a technology that acoustically adjusts to a room and introduced PhaseGuide as part of the 700’s sound design. These are manufacturer descriptions, not a guarantee of a particular listening result.

#1 Best Overall
- TOTAL IMMERSION, FOR EVERYTHING YOU PLAY: The Bose Dolby Atmos Soundbar features shockingly immersive sound for its size and utilizes proprietary TrueSpace technology so you can feel everything you watch like you're in the theater
- ONLY TRUESPACE ELEVATES IT ALL: Bose TrueSpace technology intelligently analyzes signals other than Dolby Atmos, like stereo or 5.1, and upmixes them to create an immersive multi-channel sound experience
- BIG-TIME TECH FOR A SMALL SOUNDBAR: This compact soundbar speaker features an acoustic architecture that fits five transducers into its small frame, including two that fire upward, for spacious, realistic sound
- ULTRA-CRISP DIALOGUE CLARITY: Never miss out on what your favorite characters are saying, this sound bar for smart tv uses A.I. Dialogue Mode to balance voices and surround sound for ultra-crisp vocal clarity
- STREAMING, ANY WAY YOU WANT: Stream songs and video via Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, or Chromecast built-in, if you can get it on your phone, you can hear it through your Bluetooth soundbar
Smart Soundbar 300
The 300 is a five-speaker Dolby Digital soundbar with HDMI ARC and optical connectivity listed by Bose. If those connections meet your television’s needs and you do not need the 700’s documented features, the 300 may be the more straightforward fit. Choose based on your TV, room and preferred features rather than assuming fewer speakers necessarily means inadequate sound.
Check your TV connections before choosing
Look at the ports on both the television and the specific soundbar listing. The 300’s Bose specifications name HDMI ARC and optical. The 700’s listed HDMI capabilities are described differently across sources, with RTINGS reporting eARC; use the official specification page for the region and unit you are considering, and verify the port labels on the device or in its manual. A television with eARC does not make eARC support a given soundbar’s feature unless that model and regional version support it.
Rank #2
- Sophisticated design. exceptional sound
- Amazon Alexa built-in
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
- Superior voice pickup
- Universal remote included
- Choose HDMI when the TV and bar have a compatible ARC or eARC connection and you want audio routed over HDMI.
- Optical can be an alternative when HDMI ARC/eARC is unavailable or unsuitable, but confirm that it supports the audio formats and control features you expect.
- Do not assume a listing includes the required cable or remote; check the seller’s included-items description.
Streaming, voice control and regional differences
Bose lists Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 and AirPlay 2 for both bars. Its 700 specifications also list voice-assistant support, while voice features can vary on the 300. Availability may depend on location, configuration and current service support, so verify the exact feature you plan to use rather than relying only on a general model name. Bose distinguishes the Home Speaker 300 from the Smart Soundbar 300 in its product naming and SimpleSync compatibility information.

Bose lists the Bass Module 700 and Surround Speakers 700 as compatible with both soundbars. The accessories are optional, not required to use either bar. Bose’s compatibility information lists the bars with these add-ons. For the Surround Speakers 700, Bose says the speakers connect wirelessly to the bar but require electrical power and a speaker wire from the receiver to the speaker; see the Bose UK product page. Adding accessories increases the total system cost, so include them in your budget rather than comparing bar prices alone.

What to check when buying a discontinued Bose soundbar
Bose lists sales periods of 2020–2024 for the 300 and 2018–2023 for the 700. Neither is a current Bose soundbar line according to those lifecycle listings. A present-day listing may be remaining stock, refurbished or used; availability and price depend on the seller and should be checked at the time of purchase.
- Confirm the model name. Make sure the listing says Smart Soundbar 300 or Smart Soundbar 700, not Home Speaker 300.
- Match the connection to your TV. Verify HDMI ARC/eARC or optical support on the exact bar and television.
- Inspect condition and included items. Ask about the remote, cables, packaging and any missing parts, especially for used or refurbished units.
- Check seller protections. Review warranty coverage, return period and who handles support before paying.
- Calculate the complete setup cost. Add any optional bass module or surround speakers you actually want, plus any missing accessories.
Because both models are out of their listed sales periods, do not infer condition, warranty, included accessories or current availability from the model number alone.
