Bootstrap Footer V17 is a free code snippet for a compact dark footer: a site name, one navigation row, and social icons. Colorlib recommends it for minimal sites, especially one-page sites. Its current roundup says the snippets can be used standalone or in Bootstrap 4, 5, or 6 projects, without requiring Bootstrap files.
What Bootstrap Footer V17 includes
V17 is a downloadable digital snippet, not a physical product or a complete website. Colorlib describes it as a simple, responsive footer with a dark appearance, social media icons, and a menu that can be customized. The current layout description is more specific: a dark bar with a site name, a single navigation row, and bright social icons. Colorlib’s V17 page and its footer roundup provide the template details.

Does it require Bootstrap?
According to Colorlib’s September 28, 2026 roundup, the snippets were rebuilt in plain HTML and CSS, with a small amount of vanilla JavaScript only where a footer uses tooltips. The roundup says they work on their own or within Bootstrap 4, 5, or 6 projects, without jQuery or Bootstrap files. That means Bootstrap is not a prerequisite for V17 as described in the current roundup.
Is V17 the right footer for your site?
V17 suits a site that needs a restrained dark finish and only a few footer elements. Its one-row layout is particularly appropriate when a page has little secondary content. If the footer must organize multiple categories or provide a contact or newsletter function, a different layout may fit better.
#1 Best Overall
| Footer option | Best fit described by Colorlib |
|---|---|
| V17 | Minimal dark footer with a site name, navigation row, and social icons; suited to one-page sites. |
| V04 | Dark four-column footer. |
| V14 | Blog footer with tags and categories. |
| V18 | Footer with a contact form. |
| V10 | Newsletter-led footer. |
These distinctions reflect Colorlib’s descriptions of the layouts, not comparative usability or performance testing. Consider whether your footer needs legal links, contact details, newsletter signup, or category navigation, and whether a dark treatment matches the rest of your site.
How to download and adapt the snippet
- Download the template from Colorlib’s V17 page and extract the package.
- Find the footer markup and replace the example site name, navigation labels, destinations, and social links with your own.
- Review the included styling and any scripts. Update file paths if you move the CSS or JavaScript files, and include only what your version needs.
- Check the footer at the page widths and browser sizes your visitors use. Verify that links work and that text and icons remain legible and usable.
- Before publishing, review the license information in the actual download package and meet any applicable attribution requirements.
This is Colorlib’s general implementation guidance for its footer snippets; it is not a report of independent testing of V17.

License and release-date details
The individual template page lists a CC BY 3.0 license. Confirm the terms in the downloaded package before using the snippet, including any attribution requirements that apply to your use.
The V17 page shows a post date of February 10, 2021, while its details field says “Released: 2025.” Colorlib’s September 28, 2026 roundup says the snippets were rebuilt, but does not reconcile those dates. The available information therefore does not establish a definitive original release year; “2026” in the title should not be read as proof that V17 first launched that year.

What belongs in a website footer?
For V17, keep the footer’s content aligned with its compact design: a site name, a short set of useful navigation links, and social links if they are relevant to the site. If visitors need legal information, contact options, categories, or newsletter signup at the bottom of the page, choose a layout that has room for those elements rather than squeezing them into a minimal bar.
