A fair comparison first requires the exact BoKS product and version, how it is deployed, and which privileged-access tasks it performs in your environment. Until those are confirmed against authoritative BoKS documentation, treat BoKS capabilities as unverified—not as equivalent to features listed in a competitor’s catalogue.
Why the exact BoKS product and use case come first
“PAM” can describe several different security jobs, not one interchangeable feature set. A platform may help discover privileged accounts and vault or rotate their credentials; record administrative sessions; provide controlled remote access to vendors; restrict local endpoint privileges; govern cloud entitlements; or help identify identity risk. A suite label alone does not establish that a product covers all of these jobs.

The available materials do not establish BoKS’s product identity, edition or version, supported operating systems, managed account types, deployment options, support lifecycle, or the functions in use at a particular organization. Confirm those details before treating any feature as a BoKS capability. If “BoKS” refers to a legacy installation, an internally named system, or a particular release, that distinction matters: documentation and support for one product or version cannot safely be assumed to apply to another.
- Record the exact product name, edition, version, and installed components.
- Document where it runs, which operating systems and account types it manages, and which integrations are configured.
- Separate functions actively used in production from features that are licensed, available, or merely planned.
- Obtain official documentation for the installed version, its support status, and any proposed upgrade or migration path.
How the named alternatives are positioned
BeyondTrust and Delinea publish multiple products rather than one product that should automatically be compared with all of BoKS. Their official portfolio pages are useful for identifying candidates, but they are vendor descriptions, not independent tests or evidence of equivalence to BoKS.
#1 Best Overall
- Standard OATH compliant TOTP token (time based)
- 6-digit OTP code with countdown time bar
- Zero footprint: no need for the end user to install any software
- Secure, sturdy, and long-life hardware design
- Easy to use - Portable key chain design. These tokens will only work with Symantec VIP Access. These tokens will not work for any other Multi-Factor Authentication services, besides Symantec VIP Access.
| Vendor | Product or capability named in its materials | How to use it in a comparison |
|---|---|---|
| BeyondTrust | Password Safe is described for privileged credentials and secrets, with session-management capabilities. | Consider it for requirements around credential storage and privileged-session workflows; verify the precise functions and licensing for the proposed edition. |
| BeyondTrust | Privileged Remote Access (PRA) is described for managed remote access. Its product information names Windows, Mac, and Linux among supported platforms. | Consider it when controlled remote access is in scope. Confirm platform support, access paths, and any limitations for the systems and users you actually need to cover. |
| BeyondTrust | Endpoint Privilege Management; Entitle for cloud permissions; and Pathfinder/Identity Security Insights capabilities are also named in its portfolio information. | Assess these as distinct endpoint, cloud-permission, or identity-security needs rather than assuming they are included in a credential-vaulting or remote-access product. |
| Delinea | Its official catalogue lists Secret Server, Privileged Remote Access, Server PAM, Privilege Manager, and controls for cloud entitlements. | Identify which listed product or combination addresses each requirement, then confirm capabilities, packaging, and deployment with Delinea documentation. |
Delinea also publishes a BeyondTrust comparison. Because it is vendor-authored, use it to understand Delinea’s positioning and questions to investigate—not as neutral proof that one vendor is superior. Neither vendor’s catalogue establishes how its products compare with a particular BoKS version.
Build a like-for-like requirements matrix
Start with the privileged identities, systems, and workflows that need protection. For every shortlisted product—including the exact BoKS installation—mark whether each requirement is native to the proposed product, requires a separate module, depends on an integration, or is unavailable. Record the supporting documentation and any limits. A blank or unverified cell is a question to resolve, not evidence that a feature exists.

| Requirement to verify | Questions for each vendor |
|---|---|
| Discovery and coverage | Which privileged accounts, systems, platforms, and account types can it discover or manage? How is coverage measured and kept current? |
| Credential storage and rotation | Which credentials and secrets can be stored? Can rotation be scheduled or triggered after use, and what systems or integrations are required? |
| Session controls and audit | Can privileged sessions be monitored, recorded, searched, and replayed? What is captured, how long is it retained, and who can access the records? |
| Just-in-time access | Can access be time-limited and approval-based? Can the product enforce least privilege for the specific administrative task? |
| Endpoint privilege | Can it control local elevation on the relevant endpoints and operating systems? Is that function part of the proposed product or a separate module? |
| Remote and vendor access | How do employees and third parties connect? Can access be scoped to a system, approved, time-limited, and audited without exposing reusable credentials? |
| Cloud and workload identities | Which cloud permissions, service identities, and workloads are covered? Which cloud providers and integrations are supported? |
| Integrations and reporting | Does it integrate with the directory, ticketing, security monitoring, and other systems you use? Can reports answer your audit and operational questions? |
| Deployment and resilience | What hosting and network arrangements are supported? What are the high-availability, backup, recovery, and regional-hosting options? |
| Implementation and lifecycle | What work is required to deploy, migrate accounts, and train administrators? What are the support dates and upgrade paths for the exact versions proposed? |
| Licensing and total cost | What is included in the quote, what requires add-ons, and how are licenses counted? What implementation, integration, hosting, and renewal costs apply? |
These criteria align with common PAM buyer considerations, including discovery and coverage. Validate each one against primary product documentation and your own requirements; a checklist is a way to expose gaps, not a substitute for technical verification.

Run the same proof of concept for every candidate
Use representative systems and accounts, and test identical scenarios across vendors. Agree in advance on what counts as a pass, what evidence must be captured, and who will evaluate usability and administration. Include the BoKS installation only where its version and configuration can be documented; otherwise, mark the relevant result unverified instead of inferring it.

- OTP token that provides secure remote access with strong authentication
- Easy to use and easy to carry
- Expected battery life is approximately 7 years
- Discover accounts: Test the agreed account types and systems. Record what is found, what is missed, and what requires manual setup.
- Rotate a credential: Check a representative privileged credential through its full lifecycle, including failure handling and confirmation that dependent services still work.
- Capture a privileged session: Perform an approved administrative task. Verify what the product records, how an auditor retrieves it, and whether replay or search works as required.
- Exercise approval and time limits: Request access, test the approval path, and verify that access expires when expected. Include an emergency-access scenario and document the safeguards and audit trail.
- Test third-party access: If vendors need access, check the connection workflow, scope, time limits, credential exposure, and session evidence.
- Test endpoint elevation: If local administrator rights are in scope, verify the intended elevation controls on the actual endpoint platforms in use.
- Test cloud and service identities: Use representative permissions and workloads to see what is visible, controllable, and logged.
- Check operations and recovery: Test reporting, integrations, administrator tasks, backup and recovery procedures, and the failure scenarios that matter to your environment.
Record whether each result came from a native capability, a separately licensed component, an integration, or a workaround. A successful demonstration on one test system does not establish broad platform coverage.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Verify commercial and operational fit before choosing
Feature fit is only part of the decision. For each candidate, obtain a written proposal and current vendor documentation covering the architecture you intend to deploy. Check high availability, migration from the existing system, support lifecycle, hosting region, and licensing assumptions. The materials summarized above do not establish BoKS deployment details, support status, or pricing, and they do not provide comparable prices for BeyondTrust or Delinea.

- Works with authentication systems that support TOTP tokens: Google, Facebook, Coinbase, GDAX, Dropbox, GitHub, Kickstarter, Microsoft, TeamViewer, etc.
- Programmable an unlimited number of times. Features syncable clock to prevent issues with drift
- About half the size of a credit card and just as thick-easily keep multiple cards in wallet
- Works with "Token2 Token Burner" or "Protectimus TOTP Burner", both available in the Google Play Store. Now also iOS compatible (iPhone 7 and later)
- More secure than software token as your codes cannot be intercepted by malware on your phone.
Compare total cost over the period your organization uses for procurement, not just a headline license figure. Include required modules, integrations, implementation, migration, hosting, support, and renewal terms. Confirm how the vendor counts licensed users, accounts, endpoints, or other units, and ask for costs to be shown against the same scope for every proposal.
Make the decision on documented coverage, not brand breadth
Choose the product or product combination that meets the prioritized requirements with verifiable coverage, acceptable operating effort, and a support and cost model your organization can sustain. If BoKS documentation for the exact installation remains unavailable, its fit cannot be responsibly scored against the named alternatives. Keep it as an unresolved candidate until its identity, capabilities, lifecycle, and implementation can be verified; do not treat an unknown as either a match or a failure.
