When one breaks, the immediate issue is not just the damaged sheet: production may have to stop while workers remove the glass and inspect equipment before restarting. The Elec cited two or three cracked substrates per 1,000 as an illustration of how even a low-frequency failure could disrupt mass production. That figure is an example from unnamed industry sources, not a verified BOE defect rate.
