The comparison does not establish that boAt led every headphone category, generated the most revenue, or sold the most units directly to consumers at checkout.
The latest public evidence also does not support calling boAt the precisely measured market leader in August 2026. It confirms boAt’s 2024 lead and reports that it remained ahead in 2025, while OnePlus and realme grew faster from smaller bases.
What boAt actually won
“Headphones” is consumer shorthand for several different products: TWS earbuds, neckbands, Bluetooth on-ear and over-ear headphones, wired earphones and gaming headsets. The figures behind this claim cover only India’s TWS earbud market.

- Period: Calendar year 2024, the latest year with a detailed public brand comparison.
Counterpoint’s 2024 update, published February 11, 2025, found that India’s TWS shipments grew 14% year over year. Economic Times Telecom’s report of the same data gives the individual brand percentages.

On shipment scale, boAt was far ahead: its share was more than five times realme’s and more than five times OnePlus’s. Boult Audio and Noise also ranked above both Chinese smartphone brands, an important detail that is lost when the story is framed simply as boAt versus China.
Shipments are not the same as “sales”
A shipment is a unit sent into a distribution channel. It may later be discounted, bundled, returned or remain unsold. The cited data therefore cannot prove which brand had the highest consumer sell-through, revenue, average selling price, margin or customer satisfaction.
A lower-priced brand can lead in units while another brand leads in rupee revenue. Likewise, shipment share says nothing by itself about sound quality, durability, call performance or reliability. Those require product testing or separate consumer research.

Why boAt stayed No. 1 despite losing momentum
Counterpoint reported that boAt’s 2024 shipments fell 4% year over year even as the overall TWS market expanded. Leadership and growth are different measures: boAt retained the largest installed channel scale, while smaller rivals grew more quickly.
Value positioning and assortment
Counterpoint associated boAt’s position with value-focused pricing and a broad affordable portfolio. That combination allows a brand to cover multiple price points rather than depend on one flagship model.
Online reach, then wider offline distribution
Nearly 75% of TWS devices were sold online in 2024, a channel in which boAt has substantial visibility. At the same time, offline TWS shipments grew 42% year over year as brands expanded into Tier II and Tier III cities. Festival promotions and concentrated online launches can also move large volumes in short periods, so a quarterly spike should not be treated as a permanent change in preference.
These are market analysts’ explanations for the pattern, not a controlled test proving that any one factor caused boAt’s lead.

How OnePlus and realme challenged the leader
Chinese brands gained share collectively
Counterpoint said Chinese brands together held 16% of India’s TWS market in 2024, up 33% year over year. OnePlus, realme and Xiaomi contributed to that increase. This is a group measure; it should not be confused with any one brand’s share or with a national “India versus China” scorecard. Brand origin also does not establish where every component is designed, sourced or assembled.
OnePlus used its phone ecosystem
Counterpoint highlighted OnePlus products including the Nord Buds 2R and Buds 3. A smartphone brand can draw on an existing customer relationship, coordinated launches, companion software and ecosystem features. Those advantages can accelerate earbud adoption without immediately matching boAt’s distribution scale.
realme had the strongest growth rate among the leading brands
realme’s 2024 TWS shipments grew 55% year over year, according to Counterpoint, helped by a refreshed portfolio. That made realme a fast-growing challenger, not the market leader: its 5.1% share remained well below boAt’s 32.9%.
What the 2025 data says
Public reporting on Counterpoint’s 2025 results describes a much more mature market:

- The fourth quarter grew 12% year over year, helped by festive demand.
- Domestic players including boAt, GoBoult and Noise retained larger shares.
- OnePlus and realme each grew shipments by more than 20% year over year.

An IDC-based Statista listing identifies boAt as the 2025 shipment leader, but its exact percentage is behind a paywall: Statista’s vendor-ranking page. The accessible evidence therefore supports “boAt remained the reported leader in 2025,” not a precise public 2025 gap or a verified 2026 ranking.

Scale versus momentum
boAt won on scale: it shipped the largest share of TWS units. realme showed stronger momentum in 2024, and OnePlus remained a meaningful challenger, but neither was close to boAt’s annual share. A fast growth rate from a small base does not equal leadership.
Domestic brands versus smartphone brands
The competitive field includes Indian brands such as boAt, Boult Audio and Noise; Chinese brands such as OnePlus, realme and Xiaomi; and global brands including JBL, CMF and Apple. Counterpoint put global brands at 6% in 2024, led by JBL, CMF and Apple. The market is therefore fragmented by price, channel and ecosystem—not divided neatly by nationality.
What could change the ranking
Near-term pressure is likely to come from slower category growth, continued offline expansion, aggressive promotions, better noise cancellation and personalization, and smartphone-brand ecosystem tactics. Those are competitive possibilities, not evidence that a particular brand will overtake boAt.

What this means if you are buying earbuds
Shipment leadership is a useful signal of scale and availability, but it is not a complete buying recommendation. Compare the specific model you want on:
- Fit, comfort and controls.
- Active-noise-cancellation performance and transparency mode.
- Microphone quality for calls.
- Battery life with ANC on and off.
- Codec support, multipoint or dual-device connection.
- Water and sweat resistance.
- Phone compatibility and companion-app features.
- Warranty, service access and replacement-earbud policy.
- Sale price versus the model’s usual price.
Check current stock and warranty terms at the boAt store, realme India, OnePlus India or a marketplace listing on Amazon India. Marketplace offers can involve different sellers and warranty conditions, so verify those details before ordering.
The precise verdict
boAt did beat OnePlus and realme in India’s TWS market—but the defensible wording is that it shipped more TWS earbuds in 2024. It did not prove leadership across every headphone type, revenue, profit, product quality or live 2026 market share. OnePlus and realme were gaining, with realme growing especially quickly, yet boAt’s lead remained substantial in the publicly reported 2024 ranking and in the available 2025 reporting.
