Blur is scheduled to close its website on November 12, 2026, and its Blend service will stop matching new loans that day. But the announced shutdown is not the same as deleting Blur’s Ethereum marketplace contracts. Nor is there evidence that NFT collectors broadly celebrated the news: the reported reaction is better understood as a clash between traders who valued Blur’s incentives and creators or critics who objected to their effects on royalties and trading behavior.
What is closing—and what is staying online?
According to CoinDesk’s October 13, 2026 report, the website closure and the end of new Blend loan matching are both set for November 12. The report says Blur’s Ethereum smart contracts will remain operational. That makes the announcement a shutdown of the user-facing site and a pause to new loan arrangements—not evidence that the on-chain marketplace system is being removed.

| Service or feature | What the report says |
|---|---|
| Blur website | Scheduled to close November 12, 2026. |
| Blend new loans | New loan matching is scheduled to stop November 12, 2026. |
| Existing Blend loans | Borrowers have until the announced date to repay or allow loans to default. CoinDesk says Blur plans a separate tool for withdrawing Blend assets after the shutdown; users should follow Blur’s official channels for complete, current instructions. |
| Ethereum marketplace contracts | Reported to remain operational after the website closes. |
| Marketplace fee switch | BLUR tokenholders are reported to retain control of the mechanism for voting on whether trading fees should be introduced. |
So, can people still trade NFTs on Blur after the website closes? The reporting distinguishes the contracts from the website, but it does not establish what interfaces or practical access methods will be available to users afterward. Contract operation alone does not guarantee that the same website experience will remain accessible.
Why might some people welcome Blur’s retreat?
Blur launched in 2022 with tools aimed at professional traders, including faster transactions, low fees and token rewards. Those features helped it compete with established NFT marketplaces and attract substantial trading activity. Critics, however, argued that rewards could encourage speculative trading and airdrop farming rather than reflect lasting collector demand. They also criticized low or optional creator royalties, which can leave artists with less income from later sales.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The disagreement is partly about who a marketplace should serve. Traders who prioritize lower costs and rewards may see Blur’s retreat as a loss. Artists and royalty advocates may welcome the end of a model they believe weakened creator compensation. Neither view represents all NFT users.
| Stakeholder perspective | What they valued or objected to |
|---|---|
| Cost-conscious and professional traders | Low fees, fast trading tools and token rewards could make Blur attractive; losing the website and new Blend matching may remove useful options. |
| NFT creators and royalty advocates | They argued that low or optional royalties reduced creator compensation from secondary sales and could undermine continued work on collections. |
| Critics of reward-driven trading | They questioned whether incentives and reported trading volume represented durable collector demand rather than activity motivated by rewards. |
These are competing interests, not proof that one side speaks for collectors as a whole. In a 2022 Axios report, NFT artist Hackatao described royalties as essential to sustaining creative work: “Artist Royalties are as fundamental as rain: They keep the creative cycle alive.” That was a historical comment about royalties, not a reaction to Blur’s 2026 announcement. A 2023 Forbes article also discussed wash-traded sales detected on Blur and quoted creator and collector Jimmy McNelis (J1mmy.eth) on the value of royalties. Those reports document criticism; they do not prove that every sale on Blur was artificial or that most collectors opposed the platform.

What do Blur’s trading figures show?
CoinDesk cited DefiLlama data to report that Blur accounted for more than 70% of Ethereum NFT trading volume in March 2023, when its monthly volume peaked at about $1.43 billion. The same report put monthly volume below $7 million in March 2026—a decline of more than 99.5% from that peak. CoinDesk also cited Blur’s advertised lifetime trading volume of more than $7.4 billion.
Those numbers describe reported volume, not the number of distinct collectors or the share of trades driven by genuine buying and selling. Volume alone cannot establish how much activity was organic, and wash-trading claims should be treated as allegations or attributed assessments rather than as an explanation for every transaction.

CoinDesk reported that Token Terminal showed $0 in marketplace protocol revenue over the three years it cited. That is a measure of marketplace protocol revenue, not a complete account of Blur’s business: it does not establish whether Blend lending or other activity generated revenue. CoinDesk also reported that Blur had not publicly attributed the shutdown to operating losses. The figures therefore provide business context, not a confirmed explanation for the decision.
Are NFT collectors actually cheering?
There is no representative survey or well-supported set of reactions in the reporting establishing that collectors broadly cheered this particular shutdown. The available market signal does not demonstrate a celebratory consensus either: CoinDesk reported that BLUR fell more than 20% to about $0.015 after the announcement. That is a volatile price snapshot, not a poll of collectors or a measure of how users feel about the website closure.

The headline’s “cheering” is best read as shorthand for a response some creators and critics may have, not as a finding about NFT collectors generally. People who benefited from Blur’s inexpensive, reward-heavy trading model can reasonably regard its closure as a loss, while those who believed that model pressured royalties or rewarded speculation may regard its retreat more positively.

As of CoinDesk’s October 13, 2026 report, Blur had not publicly attributed the decision to operating losses. The available reporting does not establish a complete explanation from Blur, so the volume decline and revenue figure should not be presented as the company’s confirmed motive. They help explain why the shutdown is being discussed as a retreat from a once-dominant trading model, but they do not settle why Blur chose to close the website.
