The headset’s pairing-button sequence depends on its model, so use the headset maker’s instructions.
Pair a Bluetooth headset in Windows 11
- Turn on the headset and put it in discoverable pairing mode. Keep it close to the IdeaPad. If you are unsure how to activate pairing mode, check the headset’s manual or manufacturer instructions.
- On the IdeaPad, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices and turn Bluetooth on.
- Select Add device > Bluetooth. When the headset appears, select it and follow any on-screen prompts.
- When pairing succeeds, check the Windows sound output if you do not hear audio through the headset.
When Bluetooth is enabled and the devices are in range, Windows can reconnect to a paired device automatically. Microsoft’s Windows pairing guide covers both Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Windows 10 path
In Windows 10, open Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices > Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth. Select the headset from the available devices and complete any prompts.
Windows 10 may still run, but Microsoft support ended on October 14, 2025. It no longer receives Microsoft’s free software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes through normal support. See Microsoft’s Windows 10 support notice.

Make the headset the sound output
Bluetooth pairing and sound routing are separate: a headset can show as connected while the laptop still sends sound to its speakers. Select the headset from the taskbar’s sound control, or open Settings > System > Sound > Output and choose it as the output device. If it is selected but sound is still absent or poor, use Microsoft’s Bluetooth audio troubleshooting guidance; the cause and fix can vary by headset and driver.
If the Bluetooth headset is not showing up
- Make sure Bluetooth is on in Windows and the headset is in pairing mode.
- Move the headset closer to the laptop and charge it. Low battery can interfere with pairing.
- Power-cycle the headset, then try adding it again.
- If Windows has a saved entry for the headset, remove that device and pair it again.
- Turn Bluetooth off and back on, check for Windows updates, and restart the laptop.
For Windows 11, Microsoft also recommends using the Bluetooth troubleshooter in the Get Help app. These steps address common connection problems, but no single fix applies to every headset or configuration. See Microsoft’s Bluetooth connection troubleshooting steps.

If the headset appears but will not connect
- Remove the headset from Windows’ Bluetooth device list.
- Put it back into pairing mode, keep it nearby, and add it again using the Windows steps above.
- If it still fails, toggle Bluetooth off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on.
- Check for Windows updates and restart the IdeaPad.
If Bluetooth is missing from Settings
A missing or grayed-out Bluetooth control may indicate a hardware, driver, or firmware problem. Check Lenovo support using the exact IdeaPad model to find guidance that matches the laptop; do not install a driver package chosen for a different model. Microsoft also outlines these causes in its Bluetooth-missing troubleshooting guide.
Windows pairing instructions apply generally to Windows devices; they do not establish the Bluetooth specifications of every IdeaPad model. If the laptop has no built-in Bluetooth or its Bluetooth hardware is not working, a USB Bluetooth adapter can add Bluetooth to a Windows device, as described in Microsoft’s pairing guide.
