Bluehost vs. DreamHost: Which Web Host Is Right for You?

DreamHost Launch advertises a lower first-year monthly price and higher listed site and storage limits; Bluehost Starter lists migration, a CDN, and a lower renewal monthly price. Their introductory terms differ, so compare the full commitment before deciding.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

DreamHost’s advertised Launch offer is lower for the first year, while Bluehost’s Starter plan has a lower listed monthly renewal price. They are not directly comparable deals: DreamHost’s example is billed for one year, and Bluehost’s is priced for a 36-month term. Choose based on the complete checkout and renewal commitment, the features you need, and whether you want managed WordPress hosting—not on the promotional monthly price alone.

How do the prices compare after renewal?

On the cited offers, DreamHost Launch is listed at $2.89 per month for its first year and renews at $10.99 per month after that year. Bluehost Starter is listed at $3.99 per month on a 36-month term and renews at $9.99 per month. That makes DreamHost’s displayed introductory monthly rate lower and Bluehost’s displayed renewal monthly rate lower, but neither fact tells you which costs less over the same period: the initial commitments differ, and the cited renewal details do not establish matching billing periods.

Before choosing, compare the amount charged now, how long the introductory term lasts, what the renewal charge covers, and whether taxes or optional extras apply. Do not multiply the promotional monthly figure by a term that the provider has not specified.

Which plan has more room for websites and storage?

DreamHost Launch lists 25 websites and 25 GB of NVMe SSD storage; Bluehost Starter lists 10 websites and 10 GB. Both cards describe capacity for 40,000 monthly visits, although the wording differs: DreamHost lists a monthly-visit figure, while Bluehost says the plan is suitable for that number. These advertised figures are not independent capacity tests and do not guarantee how a particular site will perform.

For someone expecting to host multiple small sites, the listed site allowance and storage make DreamHost Launch the roomier of these two entry plans. If you need one site and modest storage, Bluehost’s lower listed limits may be adequate. Check how each provider defines website usage and what happens if a site outgrows a plan before relying on a limit.

What differs in backups, migration, and CDN?

Backups

DreamHost Launch lists daily automated backups; Bluehost Starter lists weekly backups. If you publish or update content frequently, daily backup frequency may be more useful, but frequency alone does not establish retention, restoration speed, or what a restore includes. Confirm the backup policy and restore process for your use case.

Migration

Bluehost Starter lists a migration tool. DreamHost Launch’s listed features do not include a migration service; DreamPress, a separate managed WordPress plan, lists one professional site migration. If moving an existing site, clarify whether the tool or service covers your platform and whether any work or fees fall outside the plan.

CDN

Bluehost Starter lists a free CDN. DreamHost Launch does not list a CDN on the cited plan card, while DreamPress includes an essential CDN. The listings establish what each page advertises, not comparative CDN performance.

Should you choose ordinary hosting or managed WordPress?

WordPress can be installed on DreamHost Shared, Managed VPS, and Dedicated plans, according to its WordPress overview. DreamPress is a distinct custom-managed WordPress offering, with features such as caching and memory management. Its cited DreamPress 1 offer is $14.99 per month for the first year and $19.99 per month on renewal after one year; it lists one website, 15 GB NVMe storage, 40,000 monthly visits, 14 days of backup retention, one professional site migration, unmetered bandwidth, unlimited mailboxes, a first-year domain, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Managed features listed include staging, backup options, an essential CDN, failover protection, and 24/7 WordPress expert support. These terms are advertised on the DreamHost plans page; check the current plan details before buying.

Bluehost Starter is also presented as WordPress hosting and lists managed WordPress updates, alongside its migration tool, CDN, weekly backups, and 24/7 chat support. Those listed features do not make the two providers’ products equivalent managed environments. If you want a specifically custom-managed WordPress plan with the listed staging and failover features, DreamPress is the relevant DreamHost comparison—not Launch. If you are comfortable choosing a general hosting plan with WordPress installed, DreamHost says WordPress is available across several hosting categories.

Which host should you choose?

  • Consider DreamHost Launch if the lower advertised first-year monthly price, 25-site allowance, 25 GB storage, or daily automated backups fit your needs—and you have checked the one-year renewal terms.
  • Consider Bluehost Starter if its migration tool, listed free CDN, managed WordPress updates, weekly backups, or 24/7 chat support matter to you, and you are comfortable with the 36-month introductory commitment.
  • Consider DreamPress instead of either entry plan if you want DreamHost’s custom-managed WordPress product and its advertised staging, CDN, failover protection, and WordPress expert support.

Neither provider can be called faster or more reliable on the evidence in these plan pages. They advertise features and plan terms, but do not provide comparable independent speed, uptime, or support testing for this comparison. Base a choice on your contract, site needs, and required features rather than treating marketing visit or uptime claims as a measured head-to-head result.
