The main difference is what you want: the Collector’s Editions focus on physical extras, Europe’s Nightmare Edition adds more collectibles, and the European Game of the Year Edition packages The Old Hunters expansion with the game. Contents varied by region, so an edition name alone is not enough when buying a used copy.

Which edition should you choose?
For physical collectibles
The North American and European Collector’s Editions both list a SteelBook, art book, and soundtrack, but their official descriptions are regional and specify the soundtrack differently: the North American announcement says “complete soundtrack,” while the European one calls it a digital soundtrack. Europe’s Nightmare Edition is the documented option with the additional Book Tin, notebook, quill and ink, and two in-game extras.

For the expansion
The European Game of the Year Edition is the documented package that includes The Old Hunters. If buying a listing described as GOTY, confirm that the specific disc or digital product is actually that edition and that its included content matches the seller’s description.
For a digital purchase
The current US PlayStation page shows a Complete Edition Bundle, but its visible page does not spell out what is included. Check the live product details and checkout screen rather than assuming the bundle’s contents from its name.
#1 Best Overall
- Bloodborne Game of The Year
- If Bloodborne needs to be summed up, then the prevalent themes would be: exploring the fearsome unknown, intense life-and-death battles, and a familiar yet uniquely new online experience
- From the makers of the infamous Souls series, From Software's PS4 exclusive will attempt to take the tried and tested formula of giving players a sense of achievement to the next stage - especially when Miyazaki, the original creator of the Souls series is back at the helm
- What is promised is a harrowing experience like no other, and fans of tension, discovery, and straight up fun will sure to be excited to play Bloodborne
- If you have played the previous Souls games, then this one is a definite must buy
What to check before buying a used collector’s copy
Sony’s launch announcements establish what each package originally listed, but they cannot confirm that a particular second-hand copy is complete or in good condition. Ask the seller for clear photos of the game and every included component. For a North American Collector’s Edition, check the SteelBook, art book, and soundtrack; for European Collector’s or Nightmare editions, check the stated edition contents and the soundtrack format. For a Nightmare copy, also ask to see the Book Tin, notebook, quill and red ink set, and any included game extras.
Compare the region and condition as well as the edition label. The original US Collector’s Edition price of $79.99 and European prices of €79.99 and €119.99 were historical launch prices, not evidence of a copy’s current value. Sony’s North American announcement described the Collector’s Edition as available in limited quantities, but that alone does not establish current scarcity or resale value.

Pre-order bonuses are not standard edition contents
Sony’s European announcement described retailer-selected pre-order offers: Fedora and Bandages Messenger skins, and a Saw Cleaver SteelBook incentive. These were offers from selected retailers, not items to assume came with every standard or collector’s copy. Sony’s North American announcement separately said pre-orders through participating retailers or the PlayStation Store included an alternate Messenger skin; it did not list that skin as a Collector’s Edition component.
