To restrict YouTube on an iPhone, set an App Limit or scheduled Downtime for the YouTube app, then add youtube.com to Screen Time’s website restrictions if you also want to block browser access. These are separate controls: an app limit sets a daily allowance, while Downtime blocks selected apps during a schedule when Block at Downtime is enabled. YouTube’s supervised-account settings manage content within an eligible child account; they do not replace device-level restrictions.
Choose the Screen Time control that fits

Set a daily limit for the YouTube app
- Open Settings > Screen Time. For a child managed through Family Sharing, select the child’s name.
- If Screen Time asks, turn on App & Website Activity.
- Tap App Limits > Add Limit. Open the relevant app category, select YouTube, then set the daily time allowance.
- Set and protect the Screen Time passcode when configuring a child’s restrictions.
Apple supports limits for individual apps as well as categories. An App Limit is an allowance, not by itself a guaranteed permanent block: Apple says limits can be ignored when reached unless blocking controls are configured. Apple’s Screen Time guide explains the available controls.

Block the app during scheduled hours
- In Settings > Screen Time, tap Downtime.
- Set the schedule for the hours when YouTube should be unavailable.
- Turn on Block at Downtime.
With that setting enabled, restricted apps cannot be opened during the scheduled Downtime. This is useful when the goal is a predictable block at particular times rather than a daily minute allowance. Apple Support

- Open Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions and enable restrictions.
- Tap App Store, Media, Web, & Games > Web Content.
- Choose Limit Adult Websites.
- Under Never Allow, add
youtube.com. Add any other YouTube web address you specifically want restricted.
Apple documents URL blocking as a Web Content setting, separate from restrictions on apps and features. Use YouTube controls for an eligible supervised child account
YouTube’s Family Center or Family Link can provide controls for an eligible supervised account. Documented options include choosing content settings, blocking specific channels, and turning off autoplay. Supervised accounts are intended for children under 13 or the applicable age in their country or region; eligibility and features may vary. Consult YouTube’s iPhone and iPad guide to parental controls for supervised accounts, its supervised-account FAQs, and its setup instructions for account-specific details.
These YouTube settings manage viewing within the supervised account. They are not a device-wide block of the YouTube app or access to the website while signed out, so use Screen Time’s app and web restrictions when your goal is to limit access on the iPhone itself.

If a setting or menu looks different
- Confirm that App & Website Activity is enabled before configuring Screen Time limits.
- For a child managed with Family Sharing, make sure you are viewing that child’s Screen Time settings rather than your own.
- Check that Block at Downtime is enabled if the scheduled block is not taking effect.
- Remember that an app limit and a website restriction cover different access paths; set both if both matter.
Apple and YouTube may update support instructions, and menu labels can vary with iOS version, account setup, language, and region.
