Its October 1, 2026 statement says enforcement will continue in beta and after launch, and that a warning will appear when players trade with strangers. It does not give an enforcement count or identify any individual account.
What is Blizzard’s stance on real-money trading in WoW: Forever?
Blizzard community lead Randy “Kaivax” Jordan called the policy “crystal clear.” He wrote that an account found to have participated in “generating, selling, buying, or receiving illicit gold” may have that gold removed, be suspended, or be permanently closed. Blizzard says its actions against accounts found botting to amass beta gold, and accounts found to have purchased or knowingly received illicit gold, will continue in the beta and in the live game after launch. The statement describes action against accounts found to have participated; it does not say that every trade, gift, or recipient automatically results in a penalty. Its listed consequences range from removing gold to suspension or permanent account closure.
Can you get banned for receiving gold?
Yes, if Blizzard finds that an account knowingly received illicit gold, receiving it is within the conduct the company says may lead to enforcement. Blizzard’s September 28 clarification adds that recipients who “knew or should have known” the gold was not legitimate may be actioned. It says Blizzard will increasingly act against buyers, remove illicit gold from recipients, and may take further action, including account closure. Read Blizzard’s September 28 clarification.

That wording makes the recipient’s knowledge relevant; it is not a promise that accepting gold unknowingly is always consequence-free. Blizzard warns specifically about gifts from strangers and one-sided transactions. The October 1 post does not provide a detailed test for how it determines what a recipient knew or should have known.
Why is Blizzard adding a warning when you trade with strangers?
Blizzard said it would soon add an in-game notice whenever players trade with strangers. The warning is meant to alert players that gold from an unknown or suspicious source could put their account at risk if the provider is engaged in real-money transactions. Blizzard gave this text:

“Be wary of accepting gold from unknown or suspicious sources. If the provider is engaged in Real Money Transactions, you could put your account at risk of closure. Please see the following support article for more information.”

The announcement describes the warning as forthcoming; it does not specify an exact release date. A warning is not described as a ban trigger by itself. The concern Blizzard identifies is accepting illicit gold from a provider involved in RMT.
What is known about the beta enforcement?
Blizzard’s post confirms the kinds of activity it says it has acted against, but supplies no total for accounts actioned, bans, or RMT cases, and names no individual player or account. It therefore establishes the policy and Blizzard’s stated enforcement activity, not the outcome of any particular public allegation.
GamesRadar placed the announcement amid scrutiny of suspected beta RMT and reported an alleged case involving roughly $200 worth of gold being removed. That is GamesRadar’s report about an alleged case, not an enforcement statistic or named confirmation in Blizzard’s post. GamesRadar’s coverage.

Does the policy apply after WoW: Forever launches?
Yes. Jordan said, “We will continue to take action against RMT in both the Beta and the live game after the launch of WoW: Forever.” Blizzard’s earlier clarification likewise says RMT is unacceptable in the beta and when the game goes live and beyond. The announcement commits to continued enforcement, but does not publish detection methods, case totals, or a schedule for individual enforcement actions.
