Blink Sync Module Reset Button: Where to Find It and Which Reset to Use

Blink Sync Module reset buttons are on the back of Core, XR, and Sync Module 2, but on the side beside the USB port for 1st Gen. Choose the procedure that matches your task.

The reset button is on the back of the Blink Sync Module Core, Sync Module XR, and Sync Module 2. On the first-generation Sync Module, it is on the side beside the USB port. The right procedure depends on whether you are preparing the module for setup, changing Wi-Fi, or performing a factory reset.

Where is the reset button on each Blink Sync Module?

Module Button location How to press it Setup-ready LED pattern
Sync Module Core Back of the device Hold until the LED turns solid red, then release. Blinking blue and solid green
Sync Module XR Back of the device Hold until the LED turns solid red, then release. Blinking blue and solid green
Sync Module 2 Back of the device Hold until the LED turns solid red, then release. Blinking blue and solid green
Sync Module (1st Gen) Side of the device, next to the USB port Press the recessed button with a small, thin object such as a paperclip or toothpick until it clicks. Blinking blue and solid green

These locations and button instructions are from Blink Support’s model-specific reset guide. Only the first-generation model’s recessed side button calls for a thin object.

Which reset procedure should you use?

To enter setup or reconfigure the module

For Core, XR, and Sync Module 2, hold the rear button until the LED turns solid red, then release it. For the first-generation module, press its recessed side button with a thin object until it clicks. Blinking blue with solid green indicates the module is ready for setup.

To change the Wi-Fi network

  1. In the Blink app, open the Sync Module settings and choose Change Wi-Fi Network.
  2. Follow the in-app prompts to put the module into its temporary setup state using its reset control, then connect it to the new network.

Blink says reconfiguring Wi-Fi this way does not delete saved clips. See Blink’s Wi-Fi settings instructions. A Wi-Fi change is not the same as a factory reset.

#1 Best Overall
Blink Add-On Sync Module 2
  • Conveniently control all of your Blink devices right from the Blink Home Monitor app with the Blink Sync Module 2. The Sync Module 2 connects up to 10 of any Blink Indoor, Blink Outdoor, XT2, XT, Video Doorbell and Blink Mini devices (not required for Mini).
  • Supports local video storage for up to 10 Outdoor, Indoor, Video Doorbell and Mini devices. Record and store motion clips when you insert a USB flash drive (up to 256 GB – sold separately) into the Blink Sync Module 2. Does not support live view recording.
  • View, share, and download locally stored motion alerts from Outdoor, Indoor, Video Doorbell and Mini devices through the Blink app anytime or watch the footage on your computer by plugging in the USB flash drive (sold separately).
  • No monthly fees are required to use local video storage functionality. Local video storage functionality is not compatible with Blink XT2, XT, and 1st generation Indoor cameras.

To perform a factory reset

Use this more disruptive procedure only when troubleshooting calls for a factory reset. Blink’s documented sequence is:

  1. Unplug the Sync Module.
  2. Press and hold its reset button while plugging the module back in.
  3. Continue holding the button for five seconds, then release it when the LED begins blinking red.
  4. Wait for the LED sequence to finish. Blinking blue with solid green means the module is ready for setup.

Follow the model-specific button-location guidance while doing this. The factory-reset steps are documented separately by Blink Support.

Blink Sync Module XR+ (newest model) — System Hub for Blink devices with extended range for Outdoor 4, 10x security coverage powered by Blink's proprietary XR technology
  • Enjoy 10x the coverage — Install Outdoor 4 cameras (sold separately) up to 2,700 feet (open air)/1,700 feet (typical use) from your Sync Module XR+, which is 10x farther than Blink cameras operating on wifi alone. Video resolution may vary.
  • Indoor or outdoor use — Take advantage of open-air range when you place Sync Module XR+ outside your home with the Blink Weather-Resistant Power Adapter (sold separately).
  • Faster live view where wifi is spotty — XR technology runs on the 900MHz band, avoiding typical wifi congestion, and unlocking up to 20% quicker access to live view in areas where your wifi signal is poor.
  • Experience a more reliable connection — Cameras using XR technology have up to 70% fewer disconnects in areas with poor wifi signal strength.
  • Get two-year battery life, even at long range — Blink's patented chip technology unlocks up to two years of battery life for Outdoor 4 (sold separately) when used with a Sync Module XR+ and Energizer Lithium AA batteries.

What do the Sync Module lights mean?

  • Blinking blue with solid green: The module is ready for setup or pairing.
  • Solid red during setup: The module cannot connect to the network, or the Wi-Fi password may be incorrect.
  • Solid blue with blinking green: The module is offline and attempting to reconnect.

Use the light pattern to identify the issue before choosing a reset procedure. Blink describes these patterns in its Sync Module troubleshooting guide.

What to check before resetting an offline module

  • Check that the Wi-Fi password is correct and that the network is compatible.
  • Power-cycle the router and Sync Module.
  • If the connection remains unreliable, temporarily disconnect Wi-Fi pods or extenders to simplify the network path.
  • If these checks do not resolve the problem, follow Blink’s symptom-specific troubleshooting steps before deleting and re-adding the module or factory-resetting it.

Use the troubleshooting guide for the LED pattern and symptom you are seeing; a factory reset is an escalation, not the first step for every connection issue.
