If you want an avatar built into a compatible Samsung Galaxy device, Samsung’s former AR Emoji feature is now called Galaxy Avatar on eligible devices running Android 15 and One UI 7.0 or higher. Whether it suits you better than Bitmoji depends on what you want to do—and the available evidence does not establish a reliable overall winner or verify Bitmoji’s current requirements and features.
What is Samsung AR Emoji called now?
Samsung says AR Emoji features were renamed Galaxy Avatar beginning with the Galaxy S25 series and other compatible Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 15 and One UI 7.0. Older compatible devices may still show AR Emoji terminology and AR Zone menus. The name and route you see depend on your device and software version. When Samsung Galaxy Avatar may fit
- You have a compatible Galaxy device. Samsung’s stated Android 15 and One UI 7.0 threshold applies to Galaxy Avatar, but not every Galaxy model necessarily offers the same functions.
- You want to create and edit an avatar on the device. Samsung’s newer instructions support starting from the camera or an image in Gallery. Its One UI 7 guide describes editing features such as face, makeup, clothes, and accessories, plus stickers with backgrounds, expressions, and motion. - You use Samsung Keyboard for messages. Samsung documents sharing a Custom avatar or AR Emoji through its keyboard in messaging apps. If you use another keyboard, support is not guaranteed.
- You are building an app or game. Samsung’s Galaxy AR Emoji SDK for Unity is a developer-oriented option for using a user’s AR Emoji avatar in an application, such as representing a game character; it is not a typical reason to choose an everyday messaging avatar.
How to find and create Samsung’s avatar
- On One UI 7 or later: open Settings > Advanced features > Galaxy Avatar. Samsung says you can begin with the camera or choose an image from Gallery, then edit and save the avatar.
- On an older AR Emoji interface: open Camera > MORE > AR ZONE, then choose AR Emoji Camera or AR Emoji Studio. Menu names and available functions may differ by model and software.
- To share: in a messaging app, open Samsung Keyboard and select your Custom avatar or AR Emoji. Samsung warns that other keyboards may not support this feature.
Samsung notes that fine-tuning an avatar before saving may only be possible on certain devices. If a menu or editing option is absent, check your exact model and software rather than assuming the instructions apply to every Galaxy device.

Start with the action you care about, then verify the current support for both services on your own phone. If you specifically want Samsung’s built-in avatar workflow, check Galaxy Avatar eligibility and whether Samsung Keyboard fits your messaging setup. If Bitmoji is your preference, consult its current official documentation for supported devices, creation options, and sharing routes; those details are not verified here.
