To compare it fairly with services such as Bitpanda, Coinbase, Kraken, Bitvavo, BISON, and BSDEX, look at the price you would actually pay for the same trade, whether you can withdraw the asset, and how it is held. The figures below reflect provider disclosures and a study available as of October 9, 2026; check current terms before trading.
How Bitcoin.de’s fees compare
Bitcoin.de publishes different rates for different transaction routes. They should not be collapsed into one headline fee or compared directly with another provider’s quoted price without checking what each figure includes.

Bitcoin.de’s fee information also describes an API kickback of up to 25% for API users. Treat it as a conditional kickback, not as a discount every customer receives. Provider schedules and quote mechanics can change.

Why a percentage alone is not enough
Bitpanda says its chart price may differ from the buy or sell price it offers. A broker-style quote that includes a markup is therefore not directly comparable to an exchange fee applied to an order-book execution. For a meaningful comparison, use the final confirmation quote for the same asset, euro amount, time, and order type.

Include the full route in your calculation: execution price, explicit fee or markup, deposit method and any payment charge, then the withdrawal fee and network. Bitcoin.de says crypto withdrawal charges depend on current network fees and may change. A low trading charge does not establish that the full buy-and-withdraw cost will be low.
What observed trading costs can—and cannot—show
A TUM-hosted project study reported the following mean round-trip costs. These are study observations, not current provider fees or guaranteed costs for a particular customer.

The study’s per-asset breakdown had only two observations per asset for BISON, Kraken, Bitpanda, and Coinbase; the authors described those results as illustrative rather than statistically reliable. The study included only two exchange-model platforms, so it does not support a general cost conclusion about all exchange-model services. Use these numbers as a record of that sample, not as a current ranking or a prediction of your own trade.

Which platform has the most coins?
A reliable current comparison of Bitcoin.de, Bitpanda, Coinbase, Kraken, Bitvavo, BISON, and other Germany-facing providers’ supported assets is not established here. Coin totals can count different things, apply to different jurisdictions, or include products that are not spot cryptocurrencies held by the customer. On that basis, there is no defensible winner by coin count.

Before choosing a platform for an asset other than bitcoin, check its Germany-facing asset list and verify that the exact asset is available for spot purchase. Distinguish direct ownership of the underlying coin from derivatives, tokenized assets, or other products that provide exposure without the same kind of holding.
Custody, withdrawals, and what regulation means
Bitcoin.de’s marketplace arrangement
Bitcoin.de’s product information describes users buying and selling bitcoin from and to other users, with Bitcoin Deutschland AG acting as intermediary for FIDOR in the arrangement described. That explains the marketplace structure; by itself, it does not establish every current legal, custody, or key-control detail. Check the platform’s current terms for how your particular balance is held and what withdrawal options apply.

Coinbase’s Germany disclosures
Coinbase Germany says Coinbase Germany GmbH provides crypto custody under BaFin supervision. Its legal disclosures also say crypto custody is not covered by German deposit-guarantee or investor-compensation schemes. For euro balances, Coinbase says the funds are e-money issued by Coinbase Ireland and are not covered by an Irish deposit-protection or investor-compensation scheme. Supervision, custody, insurance, and deposit protection are distinct; supervision is not a promise that customers will be reimbursed for a loss.

Keeping crypto on-platform or withdrawing it
A Germany-facing secondary comparison reports external-address withdrawals for Kraken, Bitpanda, Coinbase, Bitvavo, and BISON, with charges depending on the coin and network. Verify each provider’s current withdrawal page before relying on that option: availability, supported networks, and fees can differ by asset and change over time.

When crypto stays with a platform, the provider’s custody arrangement applies; that is different from holding the private keys yourself. With self-custody, you control the keys, but you also take on the responsibility of keeping them and recovery information safe. A hardware wallet is one option people consider for larger holdings, but it does not eliminate loss, theft, or user-error risks.

- Choose the asset and route. Check the provider’s current Germany-facing spot list and confirm that the product is the coin you intend to hold.
- Compare identical trade quotes. For the same euro amount, asset, time, and order type, record the final confirmation price and any separate fee. Do not compare a chart price with an executable quote.
- Add funding costs. Compare the deposit method you will actually use and any associated charge.
- Check the exit path. Confirm whether the asset can be sent to an external address, which network is supported, and the withdrawal fee shown for that transaction.
- Read the custody terms. Establish how the provider says the asset is held, whether you control the private keys while it remains there, and what protections do—and do not—apply.
This same-transaction comparison is more useful than a universal “best exchange” label: different routes, quotes, assets, and custody arrangements can produce different answers for different buyers.
