It was created by New York creative studio Basura with Big Data, the music project of producer Alan Wilkis, as part of the satirical Adopt a Data Center project.
What the Bezzy plush toy is
Bezzy has a gray, server-rack-like torso, floppy limbs, googly eyes and blue LED-style details. Pressing or squeezing the torso triggers a short, harsh sound recording. WIRED reported that the sound came from a Virginia resident living near a data center; its account does not identify the facility or establish that the recording represents data-center noise generally.

The toy’s tag reads, “Hug me for ear-piercing forever hum.” That is campaign humor, not a measured description: the reporting gives no sound-level reading or independent acoustic test.

Bezzy is the physical centerpiece of Adopt a Data Center, a satire that borrows the language of a charity adoption campaign to make data-center infrastructure and its effects on nearby communities more tangible. Basura founder Rajeev Basu told WIRED the point was not simply whether AI data centers should exist, but who decides where they are built, what resources they consume and whether neighboring communities benefit.
#1 Best Overall
- 🖥️ When Servers Go Down, Ricky Stays Up – The only rack in your data center that never pages you at 3am. Ricky The Rack is the emotional support plush for IT pros, sysadmins, DevOps engineers, and anyone whose soul has been slowly drained by uptime SLAs.
- 🎁 The Gift That Finally Gets Them – Stop guessing. If they live and breathe servers, cloud infrastructure, or network cables, this is the gift that makes them laugh out loud and immediately put it on their desk. Perfect for birthdays, work anniversaries, White Elephant, or "just because they survived an outage."
- 🏆 Sits Upright Like a Real Rack (Because It Is One) – Ricky stands tall on any desk, shelf, or server room — a miniature 6.5" monument to the chaos they endure daily. Soft plush exterior, polyester fill, slight weighted bottom. Ages 3+.
- 💬 Instant Conversation Starter – Every coworker, client, or visitor will ask about it. Ricky brings personality to even the most soul-crushingly beige IT environment and sparks the kind of tech humor only insiders get.
- 👨💻 Designed From the Inside Out – Created by a data center veteran with 10+ years in the industry — and three young daughters who inspired the plush form factor. Ricky isn't just funny. He's built by someone who actually knows what you go through.
In WIRED’s account, Basu said the team chose the Virginia recording because it was “the clearest and most suitably irritating.” The resident described the sound as “like a car alarm going off nonstop. It’s high-pitched, and it’s all you can focus on.” Those descriptions explain the project’s satirical effect; they do not establish the sound level or conditions at other facilities.
What was reported about buying Bezzy
WIRED’s September 18, 2026 launch coverage reported that 20 handmade dolls, made in the US, were offered for $99 through the Adopt a Data Center project site and the Big Data storefront. Those are launch-era details, not confirmation that any are still in stock or that the price remains the same. Yanko Design also reported a run of 20 handmade US units.
Check the project site or Big Data storefront directly for current stock, price, shipping terms and whether an offer is for the Bezzy toy itself. The cited coverage does not establish current availability, shipping geography or an Amazon listing. It also mentions campaign stickers, but does not verify whether they are currently available.

What the sound does—and does not—tell you
The recording gives the plush a memorable sound effect and supports the campaign’s point about the experience of living near data-center infrastructure. It is not a decibel measurement, a controlled comparison, or evidence that every data center sounds the same. The coverage does not name the facility, report measurement conditions or establish how representative the resident’s recording is.
That distinction matters: Bezzy is a satirical art object, not a noise-monitoring device. Its sound invites questions about siting, resource use and community benefit rather than supplying technical evidence about a particular facility.
