“PC cleaning” can mean different things: automatically clearing temporary files, reviewing large files before removal, or selectively deleting browser and application traces. The right choice depends on which task you have, not on a universal ranking.

Start with Windows’ built-in cleanup
Use Storage Sense for recurring housekeeping
Open Settings > System > Storage and review Storage Sense settings. Microsoft says it can automatically remove temporary files and items in the Recycle Bin; by default, it runs when the device is low on disk space. It acts on the system drive. Check its configuration before relying on it to manage Downloads, and note that cloud files are not managed unless you configure them.
Use Cleanup recommendations when you want to review first
In Settings > System > Storage, open Cleanup recommendations to inspect categories such as temporary files, large or unused files, cloud-synced files, and unused apps. Choose only items you recognize and intend to remove. Take particular care with an older Windows installation: deleting it may remove your ability to roll back an upgrade.

When BleachBit makes sense
BleachBit is a plausible Windows choice if you want to select cleanup categories for browsers, logs, temporary files, and other applications rather than rely only on Windows’ storage tools. Its official site describes it as free and open source, with Windows portable mode available; portable mode is optional, so a USB drive is not required.
Before deleting, use BleachBit’s Preview feature and inspect the selected cleaners. The project warns that its wiping process is permanent and cannot be reversed. Treat free-space wiping as a deliberate, separate action—not routine cleanup—and do not select a category unless you understand what it removes.

What a cleaner can’t prove about PC speed
Removing files may recover storage, but that does not establish that a computer will run faster. The available product descriptions do not provide an independent comparative test showing that CCleaner, BleachBit, or Windows cleanup delivers a particular speed improvement or wins across PCs. Choose a tool for the cleanup job you can verify, rather than assuming a “cleaner” will fix general slowness.

Do not assume BleachBit is a mature, ready-to-use macOS alternative based on the project’s current status page. Updated September 5, 2026, that page describes Mac support as still developing and lists further macOS-specific cleaners, testing, a disk image, and a digital signature as future work.
