For a relaxing fireplace loop, start with 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 video, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and 5 Mbps video bitrate. That is a practical starting point for a mostly static scene, not a YouTube-mandated preset. Make sure your upload connection can sustain the stream with headroom, test the video and audio loop before going live, and favor stability over low latency when viewers do not need to interact.
Recommended settings for a fireplace loop

These codec, bitrate, keyframe, audio, and picture-format recommendations are from YouTube’s encoder settings guidance. The 5 Mbps value is for H.264 at 1080p30; it is not a universal bitrate for other codecs, resolutions, or frame rates.

Choose between 1080p30 and 1080p60
For a mostly static fireplace, 1080p30 is a sensible first choice. It needs less upload capacity than 1080p60, while usually providing ample motion detail for a calm scene. If the fire’s movement looks noticeably smoother at 60 fps in your source and your connection can reliably handle the higher bitrate, try 1080p60 instead.

These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrates, not guarantees of picture quality. Your encoder’s total stream bitrate and the stability of the connection also matter. Consult YouTube’s bitrate table for settings by codec, resolution, and frame rate.

Check upload capacity before choosing a bitrate
Measure upload speed; download speed does not tell you how much capacity the stream has in the direction it needs. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the total streaming bitrate. Include audio and any other simultaneous streams when estimating total use, and choose settings the connection can sustain steadily rather than relying on a best-case speed result.
- At a 5 Mbps video bitrate, allow at least 6 Mbps of upload capacity for that stream when applying YouTube’s 20% headroom recommendation; leave additional capacity for audio or other upload activity.
- At a 14 Mbps video bitrate, allow at least 16.8 Mbps of upload capacity for that stream under the same calculation, plus capacity for audio and other streams.
The headroom is a margin, not a fix for fluctuating or unreliable service. YouTube’s streaming tips cover upload capacity and network reliability. A wired Ethernet connection is an optional way to connect your encoder to the router; it cannot guarantee a fix if the internet service itself is unstable.

Set up and start the stream in YouTube Studio
- Enable live streaming early if this is your first broadcast. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the planned start time. See YouTube’s encoder setup steps.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream. Choose its visibility—public, private, or unlisted—according to who should be able to watch. Stream settings and viewer controls are described in YouTube’s live stream settings guide.
- Copy the stream URL and key into your encoder. Enter the ingest URL and stream key in the encoder’s stream settings, then set the video, audio, bitrate, and keyframe options listed above. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream, so do not post or share it publicly.
- Run a test before the scheduled broadcast. Check the stream health messages and confirm that the picture and sound arrive as expected. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream; for a fireplace loop, that means testing the actual video and ambience track.
- Start the encoder and monitor the Live Control Room. Check that YouTube receives the feed and that stream health remains acceptable. A preview that works briefly does not prove a long broadcast will remain stable.
Make the video and sound loop cleanly
A stream can meet bitrate recommendations and still feel broken if the file has a visible jump, a sudden change in fire intensity, a click, or a gap in the ambience at the loop point. Review the exact file that will play, not just a representative clip.

- Watch several end-to-start transitions. Look for a jump in the logs, flame position, brightness, or camera framing.
- Listen across each transition for a cut, click, sudden volume change, or silent interval.
- Confirm the encoder continues running after the file reaches its end and starts again.
- Test the planned audio and video, then watch YouTube’s stream-health messages while live, as advised in YouTube’s computer streaming tips.
Choose latency and DVR for an ambience stream
For a fireplace broadcast with little or no audience interaction, stability is usually more useful than the lowest possible latency. YouTube cautions that lower latency can mean more buffering, and says low latency matters less when the streamer is not interacting with viewers. HLS sends video in segments and has higher latency than a continuous stream, so it is unlikely to help a simple non-interactive loop; use RTMPS when your encoder supports it and your production does not require another protocol.

DVR is optional. When enabled, viewers can pause, rewind, and resume the live stream. Choose it based on the viewing experience you want rather than as an encoder quality setting. See YouTube’s live stream controls guidance.
Copyright and channel-policy checks for fireplace videos
Use footage and audio you own or are authorized to stream, including any music, sound effects, or stock material in the loop. A fireplace recording is not automatically cleared for use just because it is ambient or repeatedly played. Check the license terms and keep records of permissions for third-party material. This settings guide does not determine whether a particular video complies with YouTube’s copyright or monetization policies.

Troubleshoot common problems
