The best wireless printer for printing PDFs from an Android phone is one that explicitly supports Android printing—such as Mopria—and connects reliably over Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct. “Wireless” alone does not guarantee that a printer will appear in Android’s print menu. Epson’s US Mopria listing includes the Expression Home XP-4200 as a home wireless color all-in-one, but the available information does not establish it as a tested or ranked winner.
What to look for in an Android-compatible wireless printer
Android print-service support
Check the exact printer model for Android printing support or Mopria certification before buying. HP says its Mopria-certified printers work with Android’s built-in Default Print Service on Android 8.0 and newer; HP also describes the Mopria Print Service app as available for Android 5.0 and newer. Those are HP’s compatibility guidelines, so verify the current requirements for your phone and printer. HP’s Mopria compatibility guidance can help you check what to look for.

Wireless connection options
For ordinary network printing, connect the phone and printer to the same Wi-Fi network. Some printers also support Wi-Fi Direct, which lets devices connect without using the home router. Confirm that the particular model supports the connection method you plan to use; wireless capability by itself does not establish Android print compatibility.

PDF controls and printer type
Check whether the printer and Android print service provide the controls you need. Mopria options documented by HP include copies, color or monochrome, orientation, paper size, page range, media type, and quality. Duplex printing and borderless output are available only when supported by the printer. Inkjet versus laser, color versus monochrome, and all-in-one versus print-only are also useful buying distinctions, but no model-level running-cost or performance comparison is established here.

A listed example: Epson Expression Home XP-4200
Epson’s US Mopria page lists the Expression Home XP-4200 Wireless Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer in its home-printer category. That makes it a concrete model to investigate for Android PDF printing, not proof that it is the best option or that every configuration and region is supported. Check Epson’s current model information and the printer’s compatibility details before purchasing.
How to print a PDF from Android
- Connect the printer. Set it up on Wi-Fi, or enable Wi-Fi Direct if that is the connection method you intend to use.
- Enable an Android print service. Open Settings and look for Printing or Print services. Turn on the applicable built-in service, or install and enable Mopria if your device requires it. Google’s Pixel printing instructions explain how to add and enable a print service; labels and steps can differ across Android versions and manufacturers.
- Put phone and printer on the same Wi-Fi network. Do this for standard network printing. If using Wi-Fi Direct, follow the printer maker’s instructions for that connection instead.
- Open the PDF and choose Print. Use the app’s Print command if it has one. If it does not, HP says you can share, view, export, or open the PDF with Mopria Print Service. HP notes that the share route sends one PDF at a time.
- Select the printer and review the job. Check the page range, paper size, orientation, color setting, and duplex option if available, then tap Print.
HP’s instructions also recommend checking that the printer is awake and wireless is enabled if it does not appear. Router-band compatibility can vary by printer, so consult the instructions for the exact model rather than assuming every device supports the same bands or setup menus. HP’s Mopria setup and troubleshooting guidance covers its network-printing workflow. HP says Mopria Print Service does not support printing over a USB cable.

If the printer does not appear
- Confirm the exact model supports Android printing or Mopria; Wi-Fi support alone is not enough.
- Check that the print service is enabled in Android’s Printing or Print services settings.
- For standard network printing, verify that the phone and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Make sure the printer is awake and its wireless connection is enabled.
- If the printer still cannot be found, check the manufacturer’s setup instructions, including any router-band requirements or Wi-Fi Direct steps for that model.
For some older printers, HP identifies its Mopria-certified HP 1200w NFC/Wireless Mobile Print Accessory as a possible mobile-print option. Compatibility depends on the older printer model, so verify support for the exact combination before relying on it. HP’s compatibility information describes the accessory and Mopria support.
