For a large home, choose a Wi-Fi 7 mesh system by matching its node count, placement options, backhaul, and Ethernet ports to your floor plan and broadband—not by the biggest advertised speed or coverage number. NETGEAR Orbi 770 and ASUS ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro have independent-review results worth considering, but the reviewers tested them in different environments, so neither result establishes a universal winner.
How to choose a mesh system for a large home
A mesh kit uses multiple nodes to carry one home network into rooms a single router may not reach. In a large or multi-floor house, where you place those nodes can matter as much as the system’s advertised Wi-Fi tier. Start by identifying dead zones, floors, wall materials, and practical places for nodes; then check whether Ethernet can connect them.

Square-foot coverage and aggregate throughput figures are manufacturer claims, not promises for a specific home or the speed one device will receive. eero cautions that placement and building materials can reduce range. Do not multiply a per-unit coverage claim by the number of units to estimate a kit’s real coverage.

Backhaul is the connection between mesh nodes. Ethernet backhaul can keep node-to-node traffic off the wireless links; if running cable is not practical, compare how the system handles wireless backhaul, including its bands and whether a band is dedicated to that purpose. NETGEAR lists a 10 Gbps wired-backhaul option for the Orbi 970, while TP-Link describes wired and wireless links between Deco units. Those options do not guarantee a particular speed improvement in every home.

Match ports to your internet plan and devices
If your broadband plan or wired equipment exceeds gigabit speeds, verify the system’s WAN and LAN port speeds and how many ports are available on the exact kit. A multi-gig port is useful only if the connected service or device can use it; you may also need a multi-gig switch if the system does not provide enough wired connections.
Consider clients and kit size
Wi-Fi 7 features benefit compatible devices, but older clients do not become Wi-Fi 7 devices when connected to a new mesh network. More bands can affect capacity and wireless-backhaul choices, but the result depends on client support and settings. Compare kits with the same number of nodes when assessing cost, and confirm the local model and bundle before buying.

Wi-Fi 7 mesh systems to consider
| System | What the cited evidence says | Best fit to investigate | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| NETGEAR Orbi 770 | TechRadar’s 2026 guide calls it “Best mesh Wi-Fi for large homes.” It reports tri-band Wi-Fi 7, 2.5 Gb Ethernet ports, and two- or three-piece configurations. In the reviewer’s home, the kit filled a troublesome dead spot and delivered the full 150 Mbps broadband speed to all corners; the review also reported nearly 11 Gbps peak system speed. | Readers who want an independent-review-backed large-home option and need to choose between two- and three-piece kits. | Those results belong to TechRadar’s home and broadband connection, not a guarantee for another house. The review notes limited app features and some subscription-dependent features. TechRadar review |
| ASUS ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro | Tom’s Guide’s 2026 review names it its best Wi-Fi 7 mesh pick. In its test environment, it measured 2.62 Gbps at 15 feet and 1.532 Gbps at 50 feet, and described a 100-foot overall range. | Readers considering a premium two-pack and prioritizing the specific measured results from this review. | These are Tom’s Guide test results, not a direct comparison with TechRadar’s Orbi 770 measurements. The review’s listed price is time-sensitive. Tom’s Guide review |
| NETGEAR Orbi 970 | NETGEAR specifies a router plus two satellites, up to 27 Gbps aggregate Wi-Fi rating, up to 10,000 sq. ft. stated coverage, up to 200 devices, dedicated backhaul, and a 10 Gbps wired-backhaul option. | Readers who need the specified node configuration or 10 Gbps wired-backhaul option. | These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. The aggregate rating is not the expected internet speed for one client. NETGEAR Orbi 970 specifications |
| eero Max 7 | eero documents tri-band Wi-Fi 7, two 10 Gigabit and two 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports, up to 4.3 Gbps wireless and 9.4 Gbps wired speeds, and up to 2,500 sq. ft. coverage per unit. | Readers who want multiple high-speed Ethernet ports and are comparing the system’s wired and wireless capacity claims. | Figures are manufacturer specifications. eero says range may be reduced depending on placement and building materials. Do not infer a kit’s coverage by multiplying the per-unit figure. eero Max 7 specifications |
| TP-Link Deco BE95 | TP-Link’s U.S. product page lists up to 9,600 sq. ft. stated coverage, 200+ devices, a 10 Gbps WAN/LAN port, and combined wired and wireless backhaul. Its detailed band list describes a quad-band system. | Readers seeking a system with a 10 Gbps WAN/LAN port and wired-backhaul option. | These are manufacturer claims, not measured results. The page uses both tri-band and quad-band terminology in different places; check the exact regional SKU and hardware before purchase. TP-Link Deco BE95 U.S. product page |
| TP-Link Deco BE25 | TP-Link lists a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 system with up to 6,600 sq. ft. stated coverage, up to 150 devices, a 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port, multiple pack sizes, and wired and wireless links between Deco units. | Readers who want a more modest dual-band option and do not require the BE95’s listed 10 Gbps port. | Coverage and device capacity are manufacturer claims, not guaranteed real-home results. Verify the pack size and local SKU. TP-Link Deco BE25 U.S. product page |
How to interpret the performance evidence
The Orbi 770 and BQ16 Pro have useful independent-review results, but they were not established as a same-lab head-to-head test. TechRadar’s Orbi 770 report describes one home where the kit resolved a dead spot and delivered that home’s 150 Mbps broadband speed throughout. Tom’s Guide gives the BQ16 Pro’s measured throughput at specified distances in its own setup. Different homes, broadband connections, test methods, and conditions mean those figures should not be used to rank the two systems directly.
Manufacturer figures answer a different question: what the vendor rates or claims for the product. For example, NETGEAR describes the Orbi 970 as having “Dedicated backhaul for consistent whole-home performance.” That is NETGEAR’s product-page wording, not independent test evidence. Compare stated features with your needs, but treat coverage and speed claims as starting points rather than predictions.

Make the final choice from your home’s constraints
- Map the problem: Note which rooms need better service, how many floors are involved, and what walls or building materials separate them.
- Choose node count and placement: Compare two- and three-piece options where offered. A third node gives another placement option, but the coverage gain is not fixed.
- Decide whether nodes can be wired: If Ethernet is available, confirm the kit supports wired backhaul and that its port speeds fit your network. If not, compare wireless-backhaul design and bands without assuming a guaranteed performance outcome.
- Check wired capacity: Match WAN speed to your broadband plan and count the LAN ports needed for wired devices. Allow for a switch if the kit’s ports are insufficient.
- Confirm the exact bundle and local model: Verify node count, regional hardware, current price, and any subscription-dependent features in the listing or vendor documentation before purchase.
