What’s actually slowing this PC down?

There is no universally best bulk website screenshot API. The right choice depends on how many captures you need, how quickly requests can be started, whether a bulk call actually renders pages or merely creates render links, and how your system handles retries and delivery. For a practical first choice, ScreenshotNeo puts clean captures first: it removes common consent banners, popups and chat widgets before capture, and bills only clean shots. For other providers, verify the documented workflow and run a pilot against your own URLs; published quotas do not establish comparable speed or reliability.
What matters when capturing URLs in bulk
“Bulk” can describe several different things: accepting a list of URLs, starting many browser renders, or delivering completed images asynchronously. Those are not interchangeable. A service may accept a large batch without rendering every page immediately, and a high monthly quota does not guarantee that a burst of requests can start quickly.
- Monthly allowance: how many successful captures are included, and whether cached renders count.
- Request-start limit: how many requests may be started in a time window. This is not necessarily the number of browser sessions rendering simultaneously.
- Batch semantics: maximum URLs per call and whether the batch executes captures or returns URLs that render later.
- Completion path: synchronous response, polling, webhook, or a mix.
- Recovery: how failures are reported, how retries should be paced, and whether your own queue preserves work through a process restart.
- Capture fit: output format, full-page behavior, authentication and options needed for the pages you actually capture.
- Retention and schedules: whether results are stored, for how long, and whether recurring capture is available.
- Target-site behavior: pages may block automation or return different content to a browser automation tool. Test representative sites rather than assuming all URLs behave alike.
Ask vendors about uptime and service commitments if those affect your workload. The available product documentation does not establish a like-for-like benchmark of reliability, speed, or render fidelity.

How to choose for your workload
Small or occasional batches
Begin with the simplest API workflow that accepts your URLs and returns results in a form your application can use. Add batching and rate-limit-aware retries only when you need them. Check whether the provider captures immediately or returns render URLs that must be fetched later; that distinction changes when the work is actually done.

Large or recurring jobs
Estimate both monthly volume and peak request starts per minute. Then check batch size, execution behavior, completion method, cache accounting and retention. If captures must run on a schedule, verify that the service includes scheduling for the plan you intend to use rather than assuming a bulk endpoint does.
Jobs that must survive restarts
Keep pending URLs in durable work storage, track each capture’s state, and make retries idempotent so that restarting a worker does not lose jobs or create unwanted duplicate work. ScreenshotOne’s implementation guide suggests queue-driven batches and, for multiple workers or retries that must survive restarts, a durable queue such as Redis/BullMQ or SQS. Its guide also recommends checking the usage endpoint’s concurrency.remaining and concurrency.reset before starting more work; interpret these as starts remaining in the current minute bucket, not a live-render concurrency count.

Sites that may block automation
Include representative URLs in a pilot, including sites with cookie banners, authenticated pages if relevant, long pages, and sites known to challenge automated browsers. Browserless specifically notes that CAPTCHA pages and blank or altered output may indicate blocking. That is a reason to test, not evidence that any one provider is more reliable than another.
Run a controlled pilot before committing
- Build a representative URL set. Include ordinary pages, long pages, consent banners, authenticated pages where needed, and sites likely to block automation.
- Fix capture requirements. Use the same viewport, full-page setting, output format, authentication state and other relevant options for each provider.
- Check the job semantics. Record whether a call starts rendering, returns a render URL, or creates an asynchronous job. Note how results are delivered and how failures are surfaced.
- Measure your own outcomes. Compare completion time, usable output, failure rate, retry count, and actual billed usage under the same workload. Treat these as your pilot results, not a general benchmark.
- Test recovery. Interrupt a worker during a batch and verify that pending items remain queued and that retrying a failed item does not corrupt your results.
- Recheck the commercial terms. Confirm monthly quota, request-start limits, cache treatment, overage rules, batch limits and any needed retention or scheduling on the current plan.
Implementation details that affect bulk reliability
Rate limits and queue pacing
Monthly quota and request-start limits constrain different dimensions. If your application sends work faster than the allowed start rate, a large monthly allowance will not make the burst succeed. Pace work using the provider’s published limit or usage information, and use bounded backoff when requests are rejected or fail transiently. Do not interpret a request-start counter as a count of currently running browser renders.
Batching and retries
Process large URL sets in queue-driven batches rather than firing one unbounded burst. Store per-URL status and retry only the items that failed. A retry policy should distinguish transient transport or rendering failures from permanent problems such as invalid URLs or access restrictions. Keep retry state durable when jobs must survive restarts; the API endpoint itself is not a durable queue.

Asynchronous completion
For long-running work, asynchronous jobs can free the caller from waiting for every browser render in one connection. Plan for polling or webhooks, secure webhook handling, timeouts, and result retention. ScreenshotOne’s bulk endpoint is lazy unless execution is requested; Urlbox documents synchronous and asynchronous API requests with polling or webhooks.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCredentials and request size
ScreenshotOne supports GET and POST and recommends HTTPS because HTTP does not encrypt credentials or other sensitive request data in transit. Its documentation states a maximum POST body of 100 MiB. Avoid placing secrets in unencrypted requests, and check the provider’s request-size and authentication requirements before sending large batches.
Capture settings and output
Verify the options needed for your particular pages, especially viewport, full-page capture behavior, output limits and authentication. ScreenshotOne documents these in its options reference. Do not compare outputs unless the settings and target page conditions are aligned.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common bulk-capture problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A bulk request returns render links, but no images appear yet | The operation created URLs lazily rather than executing captures immediately. | Fetch the generated render URLs, or use the provider’s execution option when available. For ScreenshotOne, bulk execution is lazy by default; set execute to true when you want the bulk operation to execute the requests, and allow time for completion. |
| Requests stop starting even though monthly quota remains | A per-minute request-start bucket may be exhausted. | Slow the queue and check the provider’s current usage or rate-limit information. In ScreenshotOne’s usage guide, concurrency.remaining and concurrency.reset concern starts within the current minute bucket, not active renders. |
| Captures are blank, altered, or show a CAPTCHA | The destination may block automated browsing or serve different content. | Check the page in a normal browser, verify authentication and required headers, and run a representative-site pilot. Browserless documents this behavior as a possible sign of blocking. |
| A large POST request is rejected | The request body may exceed a provider’s maximum or not match its required format. | Reduce the batch size or payload and confirm the endpoint’s supported method and body limit. ScreenshotOne documents a 100 MiB maximum POST body. |
| Credentials may be exposed in transit | The request uses unencrypted HTTP. | Use HTTPS. ScreenshotOne explicitly recommends it for protecting credentials and other sensitive request data in transit. |
| Some URLs disappear after a worker or server restart | Job state existed only in process memory, or retries were not recorded durably. | Persist pending work and per-URL status in a durable queue or database; make retry handling idempotent. |
| Retries create excess cost or duplicate work | The client retries every failure indiscriminately or does not account for cache and billing rules. | Classify failures, cap retries, and check how the provider counts cached and successful renders. For ScreenshotOne, its pricing page says successful renders not served from cache count toward quota. |

Frequently asked questions
Does a bulk endpoint always capture every URL as soon as I submit it?
No. Check whether it renders immediately, returns render links that run when fetched, or creates asynchronous jobs. ScreenshotOne’s bulk operation is lazy by default unless execution is requested.
Is a per-minute request limit the same as browser concurrency?
No. A request-start limit constrains how quickly work may be submitted. It does not by itself say how many browser renders are active at once.
Can published quotas tell me which API will be fastest?
No. Quotas and plan features are not comparable throughput benchmarks. Run the same pilot against your own sites and capture settings.
Recommended Free Tools
Do I need my own queue if a provider offers bulk capture?
Use durable work storage when jobs must survive restarts, support controlled retries, or coordinate multiple workers. A provider’s batch endpoint does not necessarily preserve your application’s job state.
