Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Then send the same request for quote (RFQ) to several candidates and verify their minimum order, setup costs, production location, quality controls, and schedule directly. A directory listing or introduction is a starting lead—not proof that a manufacturer accepts small batches or has capacity now.
Start with a manufacturing brief
Before searching, prepare a concise brief that lets a manufacturer judge whether the work fits its equipment and process. Include:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Drawings, specifications, or a reference sample
- Material, manufacturing process, tolerances, and finish
- Quantity for the first run and likely repeat orders
- Packaging, delivery destination, and target date
- Required certifications, testing, or regulatory constraints
Control access to proprietary design details until you and the supplier have agreed on suitable confidentiality and intellectual-property terms. A clear brief also makes it easier to compare responses on equal terms.
Where to look for U.S. manufacturers
SBA’s Make Onshoring Great Again portal
The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Make Onshoring Great Again portal connects businesses with U.S. manufacturers, producers, and suppliers through listed platforms. The SBA describes the tool as free and lists IndustryNet, Thomasnet, CONNEX Marketplace, and IQS Directory among its routes.

- 【Pre-Dried & Easy to Print】Pre-dried for 3–6 hours and vacuum-sealed with desiccant to help maintain consistent extrusion and reduce moisture-related printing issues. Recommended nozzle temperature: 205–215°C at 50–100 mm/s and 215–245°C at 100–230 mm/s.
- 【Wide Compatibility & Versatile Use】Compatible with most FDM 3D printers, including Bambu, Creality, Ender, and Prusa. Great for home decor, flower vases, desk organizers, cosplay props, prototypes, and DIY projects.
On the portal’s current page, accessed October 7, 2026, the SBA describes IndustryNet as listing over 350,000 U.S. suppliers and Thomasnet as helping small and medium businesses compare over 500,000 American suppliers. These are platform coverage figures reported by the SBA, not independently verified counts of active factories or suppliers willing to take small orders. The portal’s May 20, 2025 launch announcement used a different historical figure—more than 1 million American suppliers—so it should not be treated as a current directory count. Thomasnet
Thomasnet’s Made in America search offers supplier profiles and information such as catalogs, capabilities, and certifications. Thomas says users can filter by location, capabilities, services, and certifications and request quotes. Treat the results as candidates to investigate: a profile does not confirm present capacity, small-batch terms, or current certification status.
NIST MEP supplier scouting
The National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) National Network can search nationally, regionally, or locally for U.S. manufacturers with specified technical and production capabilities. Contact your local MEP Center to ask whether supplier scouting fits your need. NIST’s open-opportunities page, updated October 2, 2026, also lists time-sensitive supplier opportunities; check the page for current postings. Other listed platforms and supplementary searches
The SBA portal also lists IndustryNet, CONNEX Marketplace, and IQS Directory. Their presence on the portal makes them possible discovery routes, not endorsements of a particular listing or guarantees about small-run availability. SBA’s Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS) can be useful if you want to identify small-business vendors or have government-contracting needs; it is a supplementary search, not established here as a general small-batch manufacturing marketplace. Referrals from a relevant trade association, regional manufacturing network, or industry event can also help, although the best source will depend on your product category and location.
Search by process, material, and location
Search using the operation you need, not only the name of the finished product. Combine a manufacturing process with its material and a practical geographic radius—for example, “CNC machining aluminum” or “cut-and-sew production near [city].” Other process terms might include injection molding, sheet-metal fabrication, or contract assembly. These are search tactics; directory coverage varies, and no one platform is established as best for every process.
Use the platforms’ capability, location, and certification filters where available, then check the supplier’s own profile or website and contact the company. Consider more than one route: a directory search can produce candidates while an MEP Center may help look for a manufacturer with a specified technical capability.

Send a consistent RFQ to several candidates
Once you have a shortlist, send each manufacturer the same brief and request quote details in writing. Ask for:
- Minimum order quantity (MOQ) and pricing at your initial quantity and likely repeat quantities
- One-time engineering, setup, tooling, or fixture charges
- Sample, prototype, or pilot-run availability and terms
- Production lead time, shipping method, and delivery estimate
- Payment terms and how long the quote remains valid
- The U.S. facility that will perform the work and any subcontracted processes
Price breaks matter: a low quoted unit price may only apply at a volume larger than your first run. Ask what is included in each charge, who owns any tooling and production files, and whether the quoted schedule depends on material availability or other assumptions.
Qualify the manufacturer before committing
Compare candidates against the same criteria, weighted for your product’s cost and risk. Confirm that the equipment and process can meet the specification, and request relevant samples, references, quality documentation, and facility details as appropriate. If a certification is essential, verify it with the issuing body rather than relying solely on a directory profile.

Confirm where production will take place and whether any operation will be subcontracted. If “U.S.-made” has a specific contractual or regulatory meaning for your project, state that requirement explicitly and agree on how it will be documented; a U.S. address or directory listing alone does not establish the origin of every component or process.
Compare total landed cost and schedule—not just unit price. Account for setup and tooling, samples, shipping, inspection, and any costs associated with subcontracted work. Communication and the clarity of a supplier’s answers are also practical considerations when a run is small and changes may need close coordination.
Use a pilot to reduce risk when feasible
Before scaling up, consider a controlled sample or pilot run. Put the acceptance criteria, inspection responsibility, change-control process, defect remedies, delivery milestones, and ownership of tooling and files in writing. A pilot can expose specification or process issues before they affect a larger order; agree in advance what happens if the output does not meet the criteria.

How to choose between discovery routes
No reliable apples-to-apples comparison establishes which directory has the best coverage, lead quality, or pricing for every kind of small-batch project. Choose routes based on how you need to search and what help you want:
| Route | What it helps you do | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| SBA portal and listed platforms | Reach multiple supplier directories from a public SBA starting point. | Whether a specific listing handles your process, quantity, location, and timing. |
| Thomasnet | Search supplier profiles using capabilities, services, location, and certifications, and seek quotes. | Current capacity, small-run terms, and certification status with the supplier. |
| MEP supplier scouting | Request capability-based searches at national, regional, or local scale through the MEP Network. | Whether the local center can support your particular need and which candidates meet it. |
| SBA DSBS | Supplement a search for small-business vendors, especially when government contracting is relevant. | Whether the results are manufacturers suited to your production need; DSBS is not established as a universal small-batch marketplace. |
After discovery, compare manufacturers using the same dimensions: process fit, first-run minimum, prices at several quantities, setup costs, pilot terms, lead time, quality evidence, production location, communication, and total landed cost. The right shortlist depends on your process, quantity, region, and any regulatory or country-of-origin requirements.
