For a local setup, use OBS Studio: add the video as a Media Source, enable Loop, connect OBS to YouTube Live with the stream URL and key, then test the stream before publishing. If you need a prerecorded YouTube stream to keep running without a computer at home, a cloud service is another option. The right choice depends on whether you want local control or unattended cloud operation.
Choose between a local encoder and cloud streaming
| Option | Where it runs | Best fit | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud | Continuous prerecorded YouTube streams without keeping a home computer on | Upload a video or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos, not a camera feed. StreamNeo is #1 for this use case because it runs always on from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. |
| OBS Studio | Your computer | A one-off or managed stream when you can leave the computer and connection running | OBS Media Source can loop a video file; VLC Video can loop a playlist. You set up and monitor the encoder yourself. |
| Gyre | Cloud | Creators looking for a cloud-based prerecorded 24/7 stream option | YouTube lists Gyre in its encoder directory for this use case. That listing does not establish current pricing, terms, or detailed controls; check with the service directly. |
For OBS, follow the setup below. For a hands-off cloud workflow, see StreamNeo or verify Gyre’s current offer directly before choosing a service.
Check YouTube eligibility and prepare the stream
Before configuring OBS, confirm that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live streaming activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
- Have the final video file available locally and confirm it plays with its audio before adding it to OBS.
- Decide whether you need a single video repeating or a playlist. OBS Media Source supports common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM.
- Plan to keep the computer, OBS, and internet connection running for the entire stream. OBS’s loop setting restarts media playback; it does not by itself establish recovery after a power or network failure.
Create the YouTube stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the stream settings. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains that the encoder sends its output to YouTube using these values.
- Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream. Do not post it in a public chat, screenshot, or recording.
Loop a video in OBS Studio
- In OBS, create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source.
- Give the source a name, select the local video file, and enable Loop in its properties. Confirm that the file’s audio is audible in the OBS mixer.
- For an ordered playlist rather than a single repeating file, add a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. If VLC Video is unavailable in OBS, install VLC and reopen OBS.
- Check the preview for framing and playback. If the video does not fill the canvas, adjust the source transform to fit the intended output rather than stretching it out of proportion.
OBS’s official documentation describes the available Media Source and VLC Video source controls. A single Media Source is the simpler choice when the same file should restart immediately after it ends.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set encoder output and test stream health
In OBS, open Settings > Stream and select YouTube or a custom service as appropriate. Use the stream URL and key from Live Control Room; prefer RTMPS where available. Set video resolution and bitrate according to YouTube’s current encoder recommendations and the reliable upload capacity of the connection—not an arbitrary bitrate copied from another setup.
YouTube’s live encoder settings list H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video options for RTMP/RTMPS, AAC or MP3 audio, and frame rates up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says the interval should not exceed four seconds. Select settings supported by both your encoder and connection.

Plan for archives, copyright, and policy rules
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the archive matters, make and retain a local recording as a backup; do not treat the YouTube archive as the only copy. See YouTube’s livestream archive guidance.
You are responsible for having the rights needed to broadcast the video worldwide, including music rights. YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” YouTube also says that live content must comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service in its getting-started guidance. Repeating a video does not remove these obligations; review YouTube’s Community Guidelines and your rights for every element of the content.

Troubleshoot common problems
- Live streaming is not available: check channel verification and whether a live-streaming restriction applies. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for it to become available.
- The stream will not connect: recheck the stream URL and key in OBS against Live Control Room, confirm the selected service and RTMPS settings, and make sure the key has not been reset.
- The video stops instead of repeating: reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For a playlist, use VLC Video and check Loop Playlist.
- VLC Video is missing: install VLC, then restart OBS so the source can appear.
- Stream health is poor or video stalls: reduce output demands to settings the upload connection can sustain, then test again with similar motion and audio. Use YouTube’s encoder guidance rather than guessing a bitrate.
- The stream ends after an outage: the documented loop controls do not guarantee OBS reconnection after power or network loss. Restore the connection and encoder, then check Live Control Room; for unattended continuity, consider a cloud workflow.
- No YouTube archive appears: a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Use a local recording when an archive is important.
