Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor a fixed sequence of local MP4 files, the simplest free do-it-yourself setup is OBS Studio with its VLC Video source: add the files in order, leave Shuffle Playlist off, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS then sends the repeating playlist to YouTube Live. This method depends on the computer, files, power, internet connection and OBS staying available; for playback without a home computer running, use a cloud service such as StreamNeo.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- OBS Studio and VLC installed on the computer that will run the stream. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC; with 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- The MP4 files you have the right to broadcast, in the order you want them played.
- A stable upload connection able to sustain the bitrate you select, plus enough local power and storage to keep the computer and media available.
Set up a looping playlist in OBS
- Enable YouTube live streaming. In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming for the channel if it is not already enabled. Allow for YouTube’s stated activation delay of up to 24 hours when activating for the first time.
- Create the live event. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown there. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Create an OBS scene and add the playlist source. In OBS, select or create a scene, then use Sources > + > VLC Video. If VLC Video is missing, install VLC and restart OBS; use a VLC build matching OBS’s bitness.
- Add the MP4 files in playback order. In the VLC Video source properties, add the files in the order you want. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a predictable sequence, and enable Loop Playlist to restart at the beginning after the last item.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS’s stream settings, choose YouTube if it is available, or enter the server URL and stream key copied from Live Control Room. Do not share or publish the key.
- Set output to suit the video and connection. Use the current YouTube encoder-settings table for the selected resolution, frame rate and codec; the figures below are examples for H.264, not universal presets. YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Its recommended stereo audio bitrate is 128 Kbps.
- Start and verify. Start streaming in OBS, then check the YouTube preview and stream health in Live Control Room. Confirm the picture, sound and motion before relying on the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing upload speed and checking a stream that includes audio and movement.
- Check a complete playlist cycle. Watch every transition, including the return to the first file. Look for black frames, missing audio, unexpected pauses or changes in aspect ratio, frame rate, audio layout or codec. Keep backup copies of the media and recheck the stream after changing the playlist.
Choose bitrate and output settings
Do not pick a bitrate solely because a file has a particular resolution. Match the encoder output to the source and the upload connection, and consult YouTube’s current table for the exact codec, resolution and frame rate. For H.264, YouTube’s encoder-settings guidance accessed October 3, 2026, recommends 10 Mbps at 1080p30 and 17 Mbps at 1080p60. Those are different targets for different frame rates; they are not instructions to use one value for every stream.
- Rate control: CBR is YouTube’s recommendation.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Stereo audio: YouTube recommends 128 Kbps.
- Upload capacity: Leave headroom rather than planning around a connection that only just matches the video bitrate. Recheck actual performance with a test stream and the YouTube health indicator.
Encoder guidance can change. Before going live, use YouTube’s current live encoder settings for the format you intend to send.
Which 24/7 method fits?
| Method | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo cloud service | Someone who wants uploaded videos to loop on YouTube without leaving a home computer on. | Requires a service subscription and an upload workflow; check the current service terms and plan details. |
| OBS with VLC playlist on a local computer | Someone who wants free local control, supervision, scenes or overlays. | The computer, source files, power, network and encoder process must remain available; the operator handles monitoring and recovery. |
| FFmpeg on a server | An operator comfortable with command-line setup and server administration. | You manage restarts, monitoring and troubleshooting. Stream-copy looping can have timestamp issues at loop boundaries, so verify the actual output rather than assuming the repeat is seamless. |
| Another managed cloud encoder | Someone who wants playback to continue without a dedicated home computer. | Check provider pricing, workflow and limits directly. YouTube’s verified-encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded video, but that listing is not an independent reliability comparison. |
No method guarantees uninterrupted uptime. Compare dependence on local hardware and internet, setup and monitoring effort, playlist editing, any need for codec conversion, service cost and control over scenes or overlays. YouTube’s verified encoder directory can help identify listed tools; its inclusion should not be treated as a performance endorsement.

Rights, archives and monetization
Use media you are allowed to broadcast
Stream only video and audio you own or have permission to broadcast. Permission can depend on the particular license and how you use the material; a looping setup does not resolve those rights questions.
Do not count on a full-day replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That rule does not establish that one uninterrupted 24/7 stream will produce a complete archive. If a full replay matters, check YouTube’s current behavior and plan separate recording or shorter segments.

A loop is not a monetization guarantee
YouTube says monetized livestreams can use ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and memberships, but ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads. Repeating prerecorded material by itself does not establish that a channel or stream meets monetization eligibility requirements. Review YouTube’s YouTube Partner Program policies and applicable livestream rules before relying on revenue.
Troubleshoot common problems
VLC Video does not appear in OBS
OBS needs VLC for this source. Install VLC, matching its bitness to OBS (64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS), then restart OBS and look again under Sources.

The playlist plays once and stops
Open the VLC Video source properties and make sure Loop Playlist is enabled. If you expect the files to play in a fixed order, also keep Shuffle Playlist disabled.
YouTube shows no video or audio
Check that OBS is sending to the intended YouTube server URL and that the stream key matches the event in Live Control Room. Inspect the OBS preview and audio meters, then confirm the YouTube preview and stream health. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.

The stream health is poor or the feed drops
Compare the configured bitrate with YouTube’s guidance for the actual codec, resolution and frame rate, and test the upload connection. A local OBS stream also depends on the computer, power, network and OBS process; identify which one stopped before restarting the feed.
There is a gap, black frame or audio change between files
Check the transition during a full test cycle. Inspect the files for differences in codec, frame rate, aspect ratio and audio layout, and replace or standardize media that causes visible or audible changes. Keep a backup of the playlist files in case a source becomes unavailable.
