Best Way to Get iPhone Photos on an Android Tablet

Use Google Photos for shared cloud access, Apple’s iCloud copy-transfer service for an existing iCloud library, or a computer and USB to put files directly on an Android tablet.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The easiest way to get iPhone photos onto an Android tablet is usually Google Photos: back up the iPhone library, then sign in to the same Google account on the tablet. If your photos already use iCloud Photos, you can ask Apple to copy them to Google Photos. To put files directly on the tablet without relying on a cloud library, transfer them through a Mac or Windows PC.

First decide whether you only need to see the photos in an app or need local files stored on the tablet. Google Photos can show backed-up photos without downloading each one; local copies require an additional download or a computer-based transfer.

Choose the transfer method that fits your goal

Method Best for What you need Key trade-off
Google Photos backup Viewing an ongoing photo library on both devices A Google account, internet access and enough account storage The initial upload takes time; download items on the tablet if you need local copies.
Apple iCloud Photos copy transfer Moving a library already stored in iCloud Photos An eligible Apple account with two-factor authentication and a Google account with enough storage Apple says the transfer takes three to seven days, and some formats or features may not transfer.
Computer-assisted USB transfer Copying files onto the tablet without relying on a cloud copy A Mac or Windows PC and suitable USB cables It takes two transfer stages, and iCloud-optimized originals may need to be downloaded to the iPhone first.

Option 1: Back up the iPhone to Google Photos

This is the most straightforward option if you want to browse the same backed-up library on both devices. Use the Google account you plan to use on the tablet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Install or open Google Photos on the iPhone and sign in to that Google account.
  2. Turn on backup in the app. Keep Google Photos open and available while the library uploads; Google advises iPhone and iPad users not to quit the app during backup. Upload time depends on factors such as your connection and the amount of data. Check the app’s backup status and wait until it reports completion before relying on the uploaded copy. See Google’s backup status guidance.
  3. Open Google Photos on the Android tablet and sign in to the same Google account. The backed-up photos should appear in the app.
  4. If you need a local file for a particular photo or video, open it in Google Photos on the tablet, tap More, then Download. Google notes that the downloaded file may receive a new operating-system timestamp based on when it was downloaded. See Google’s Android download instructions.

Google account storage is shared across Google Photos, Drive and Gmail. Google says an account includes up to 15 GB; check your available space before starting a large upload. See Google’s storage information.

Option 2: Copy iCloud Photos to Google Photos

If the originals are already in iCloud Photos, Apple’s transfer service can send a copy of the collection to Google Photos without requiring you to download the whole library to a computer first. It copies the photos rather than deleting or changing the Apple originals.

  1. Confirm that iCloud Photos is enabled, two-factor authentication is on for your Apple account, and you can sign in to a Google account with enough available storage.
  2. Go to Apple’s iCloud Photos transfer process and request a copy transfer to Google Photos.
  3. Allow three to seven days for Apple to complete the request, then check Google Photos on the Android tablet using the destination Google account.

Apple says the service is available to customers in more than 240 countries, but child accounts and Managed Apple Accounts are excluded. Accounts using Advanced Data Protection for iCloud cannot use this export. Some content or features—including Smart Albums, Live Photos and certain RAW files—may not be available in Google Photos. Photos still uploading to iCloud or changed after the request begins may also be left out. Review important items in the destination library after the transfer. Apple’s eligibility and transfer details describe the current limits.

Copy from the computer to the Android tablet

  1. Connect the tablet to the computer by USB and unlock the tablet.
  2. On the tablet, select File Transfer when prompted.
  3. In the computer’s file window, drag the imported photos into a suitable folder on the tablet.

Menu names and available steps can vary by Android device and computer. Google’s Android USB file-transfer instructions explain the general process.

Fix common transfer problems

  • The Google Photos library looks incomplete: Check that backup on the iPhone has finished. Upload time varies with connection and library size. For an Apple iCloud copy request, insufficient Google storage can prevent the entire collection from transferring.
  • Photos appear in Google Photos but not in the tablet’s gallery: They may be visible in the cloud without being stored locally. In Google Photos, open an item and choose More → Download to create a local copy.
  • Some formats or features are missing: Apple warns that certain iCloud Photos content, including Live Photos, Smart Albums and some RAW files, may not transfer to Google Photos.
  • A downloaded photo shows a different date: Google says the operating system may set a new file timestamp at download time. Check the item’s details if you need to inspect its photo metadata.
  • Windows does not import every iCloud photo: Download full-resolution originals to the iPhone before importing, if needed.
  • The iCloud-to-Google transfer stops short: Check available Google storage; it is shared across Photos, Drive and Gmail.

Can you connect an iPhone directly to an Android tablet?

There is no universal direct-cable method established for an unspecified iPhone and Android tablet. Their models, ports and operating-system support matter. The reliable documented approaches here are to use Google Photos, request Apple’s iCloud Photos copy transfer, or use a computer as the USB bridge. If choosing USB, confirm the instructions and connection requirements for your particular devices rather than assuming one cable or adapter will work.
