For a close PC VR follow-up to Half-Life: Alyx, start with Vertigo 2: it pairs a sci-fi single-player campaign with puzzles and physics-driven interaction. The best alternative depends on what you want to keep from Alyx—its campaign, hands-on play, atmosphere, or simply the chance to explore a different VR genre—and on which headset you own.
Which VR game is most like Half-Life: Alyx?
Vertigo 2 is the strongest recommendation if you want another PC VR sci-fi campaign with puzzles and physics-oriented interaction. “Closest” is a comparative judgment, not an objective ranking, but it makes Vertigo 2 a natural first pick for someone asking what to play after Alyx.

That comparison makes sense because Valve describes Alyx as a full-length game built for VR, with object manipulation, tools, environmental interaction, puzzles, exploration, and combat. Its official page also notes support for room-scale, seated, and standing play, plus teleport, shift, and continuous movement options. Those are useful dimensions to consider in a follow-up: how much the game uses VR interaction, whether it has a focused campaign, and whether its movement and setup suit you. Choose by the part of Alyx you liked most
- Sci-fi campaign and puzzles: Try Vertigo 2 on PC VR.
- Hands-on physics: Choose Bonelab if you want experimentation and sandbox play rather than a close narrative substitute.
- Atmosphere and storytelling: Look at Metro Awakening.
- Action-horror on Quest: Consider Resident Evil 4 VR.
- A different, extended campaign: Pick Asgard’s Wrath 2 for action-RPG play.
- A seated adventure: Moss: Book II changes both the perspective and pacing.
- Survival and physical melee: The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners leans further into horror and survival.
Check your headset and edition before choosing
Start with the headset you own. Quest standalone, Quest connected to a PC for PC VR, SteamVR, and PlayStation VR are different platform categories; support for one does not establish support for another or for every headset generation. Store availability and regional editions can change, so confirm the specific game listing before purchase.

Half-Life: Alyx itself is PC VR software, not a native standalone Quest game. Valve lists SteamVR support and these minimum requirements for Alyx: Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-7500 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 12 GB RAM, and a GTX 1060 or RX 580 with 6 GB VRAM. These are Alyx’s listed minimums, not requirements for the other games here. Alyx on Steam
A Quest headset can connect to PC VR through a Link cable or Air Link, according to the reviewed guide. A cable is an optional setup accessory for Quest-to-PC use, not a requirement for standalone Quest games. Meta Quest Link guidance

Alyx supports several play environments and movement methods, but that does not guarantee another title offers the same options.

If you have PC VR and want another sci-fi campaign, begin with Vertigo 2. For a Quest campaign, consider Resident Evil 4 VR; for physics play, Bonelab; and for a more dramatic change in genre, Asgard’s Wrath 2. Choose based on your headset and the part of Alyx you want to revisit—not on a claim that one game is universally the best.
