The right plan depends on the exact games and server versions, how many instances may be busy at once, expected players, mods and configuration, world growth, and the provider’s resource and network policies. Check each server’s own requirements, then size CPU, RAM, storage and network access for the combined workload—with room for the operating system and peak activity.
Start with the workload, not a generic VPS size
Make a short inventory before comparing plans. For every server, record the game and server version, number of instances, expected concurrent players, mods or other customizations, and the region where players will connect. Distinguish the maximum number of instances you will run from the number likely to be busy at the same time: overlapping activity determines how much capacity you need at peak.
- Game and version: Requirements for one title or edition do not establish requirements for another.
- Instances and players: Count the servers you will run and estimate simultaneous player activity.
- Configuration: Note mods, world complexity and other settings that may change resource use.
- Growth and operations: Allow for expanding worlds, updates, logs, backups and the operating system.
- Region and access: Choose a location suitable for players and confirm the provider permits the needed inbound traffic.
How to size the VPS resources
CPU: check each game’s guidance
CPU needs are game- and instance-specific. The ARK Official Community Wiki recommends two logical cores per ARK: Survival Evolved instance and says single-thread performance is favored. For ARK: Survival Ascended, it recommends four logical cores per instance, also favoring single-thread performance. These are recommendations for those server versions, not a formula that can be applied to every game.
When comparing VPS plans, check how CPU is allocated, any stated performance characteristics or sharing policy, and whether the provider explains how resources are shared. If a game’s guidance emphasizes single-thread performance, prioritize strong per-core performance rather than relying on a core count alone. A plan’s advertised vCPU count by itself does not establish how well a particular game will run.

RAM: budget for concurrent activity
Published memory figures can differ even within one title’s documentation. Minecraft’s official Bedrock Dedicated Server page lists 4 GB of RAM in its system-requirements section, while also saying at least 1 GB is needed for small servers and recommending more for larger worlds or more players. Treat these as guidance for Bedrock, not as a general memory requirement for game servers.
For multiple instances, plan for their combined demand and leave capacity for the operating system and periods when several servers are active or busy together. ARK: Survival Evolved memory use varies with map, player count, world age and configuration, so a fixed per-instance RAM number cannot be inferred from the title alone. Check the current requirements for every server you intend to run.

- Intel dual CPU sockets: This C612 server chip motherboard is designed with dual CPU sockets, which can support Intel Core i7 5th/6th generation processors and Xeon E5 V3/V4 series processors on LGA 2011-3 socket. (Note: If only one CPU is installed, please install it in the right slot, and the graphics card needs to be installed in the bottom two slots.)
- DDR4 4-channel memory slot: The memory slot of the LGA 2011-3 motherboard is designed with four channels, which can install 8 memory. It supports effective frequencies of 2133/2400MHz, and the maximum capacity is 256GB. (Non-ECC memory is not compatible when using E5 V4 series processors)
- PCIe 3.0 protocol standard: Equipped with 4 PCIe 3.0 X16 graphics card slots (with steel case). The transfer rate can reach 15.754 GB/s using one graphics card, and the performance can be improved by at least 50% by using two graphics cards. Equipped with dual M.2 hard disk slots, it can achieve fast reading even if multiple programs are running
- Stable power supply: use 24+8+8pin standard power supply interface (need to use a dedicated power supply for dual server motherboards), 12 (CPU) + 4 (memory) + 1 (C612 chip) phase power supply. Precise modularization provides good heat dissipation and makes the program run more stably
- Strong expandability: The X99 motherboard is equipped with multiple expansion interfaces to ensure that the motherboard has more room for improvement. These include 4*USB 3.0 ports, 4*USB 2.0 ports, 10*SATA 3.0 ports, 4*3pin sys fan, 2*4pin CPU fan. Besides, dual network ports allow your computer to do more things
Storage: include saves and operating overhead
The ARK Official Community Wiki estimates an installation footprint of about 18 GiB for ARK: Survival Evolved and about 11 GiB for ARK: Survival Ascended. Those figures describe the installations, not the total storage needed for a hosted server. Saves, player data, logs, updates and mods take additional space; backups need room too. Check each game’s current footprint, then allow for world growth and the number of copies you intend to retain.
Network: verify both limits and access
Bandwidth is not the only network consideration. ARK’s documentation says bandwidth rises with connected players and depends on tick rate and world complexity; it also lists ports that must be permitted. Check the provider’s throughput and transfer limits, whether the required inbound TCP or UDP traffic can be allowed, and whether you can assign ports to multiple independent instances. Player geography matters as well: choose a server location with latency in mind.

Check operating-system and server compatibility
A VPS is only suitable if the game’s dedicated-server software works with its operating system and dependencies. Minecraft’s official Bedrock server page lists supported Windows and Ubuntu versions. Valheim’s maintainer guide documents Linux library requirements and setup considerations. Verify compatibility for the exact server version before choosing a plan; an operating system that works for one title is not proof that it will work for all the servers you want to host.
Compare candidate VPS plans
| What to compare | What to verify |
|---|---|
| CPU | Allocation, stated performance characteristics and sharing policy; consider per-core performance when the game’s guidance favors it. |
| RAM | Enough for all instances that may be active together, the operating system and expected peaks. |
| Storage | Capacity and type, installations, saves, player data, updates, logs, mods and backups. |
| Network | Throughput and transfer limits, player geography, latency considerations, and access to required ports and protocols. |
| Compatibility | Supported operating system and dependencies for each exact server version. |
| Instance management | Ability to run multiple independent servers and configure distinct ports. |
Provider plans and policies change, so confirm the current details directly with the host. No single best plan or universal minimum can be established without knowing the games, versions and workload.
Quick Recap
A practical selection checklist
- List each game and exact server version, then check its current official requirements and compatibility notes.
- Record instance counts, expected simultaneous players, mods and configuration, plus the desired player region.
- Estimate the combined CPU and memory needs for busy periods, including operating-system overhead; use title-specific guidance rather than extrapolating one game’s numbers to another.
- Add installation, save, update, log and backup storage, with allowance for world growth.
- Compare provider CPU policies, memory, storage, network limits, port and protocol rules, supported operating systems, and multi-instance support.
