For a vertical monitor that can also handle everyday work, TechRadar Pro names the Dell UltraSharp U2723QE its overall pick. Its guide also highlights different choices for a lower-cost setup, Mac users, creators, coding and gaming. The right fit depends on more than whether the screen rotates: consider resolution, desk space, ports, power delivery and how stable the display is in portrait orientation.
Six vertical-monitor picks, by use case
The recommendations below come from TechRadar Pro’s guide, last updated August 27, 2026. Its editor says the team reviewed over 200 displays; that count is the publisher’s claim and has not been independently audited here. These are category recommendations, not a claim that every model is best for every buyer. Its reported testing was not independently replicated.
What to check before choosing a portrait monitor
Pivot, stand and mounting fit
A monitor needs a stand that allows upright rotation or a separate arm or stand that can place it in portrait orientation. The guide says all six listed models support VESA mounting, but check the exact monitor’s VESA pattern and weight before selecting an arm. Also confirm the arm’s load capacity, desk-clamp clearance and range of motion. A VESA pattern alone does not guarantee that a particular arm will fit your setup.

- Ultrathin Bezels Monitor Display: This monitor design with ultra-thin 3-sided bezels, offering a larger screen feel and seamless visuals. Perfect for multi-monitor setups, its minimalist design enhances productivity while adding a stylish touch to your workspace
Portrait stability matters: a screen that rotates but wobbles or cannot be positioned comfortably may be frustrating for daily use. The guide treats stability as part of its testing framework, but this article has no independently measured stability results for the listed models.
Size, resolution and viewing distance
TechRadar Pro describes 24–27 inches as an ideal range for many vertical-monitor users and 9:16 as the standard portrait orientation. Treat those as general guidance, not a universal ergonomic rule. Compare screen size with your desk depth and viewing distance, then choose resolution based on how much text and detail you want. In this lineup, the overall pick is 27-inch 4K UHD while the budget choice is 27-inch QHD.

Refresh rate and intended use
For office work, browsing or coding, decide whether a higher refresh rate matters to your workflow rather than treating it as a requirement. Gaming makes refresh rate more consequential: the AW2725QF is the gaming-oriented option in this guide, with different listed refresh rates depending on whether it is set to 4K or Full HD. Check the mode you intend to use and whether your computer can drive it.

USB-C, charging and other ports
USB-C power delivery can reduce cable clutter by carrying video and charging a connected computer over one connection, but the wattage and available ports determine how useful that setup will be. The guide lists up to 90 W for the U2723QE and PD2730S and 65 W for the S2725DC and GW2486TC. If you need a full docking station, many peripherals or a particular connection, compare the complete port list rather than relying on the USB-C label.

Panel and color needs
The guide describes IPS as a broadly suitable panel choice and suggests considering VA when contrast and black levels are priorities. For color-sensitive creative work, look closely at the specific model’s color coverage and calibration claims; the guide highlights those features for the U2723QE and PD3225U. These are reported specifications and positioning, not independent color-measurement results.
Price and desk fit
Prices and availability change, and the guide does not establish a stable price for these models. Compare current local pricing alongside the features you will actually use. Also account for the monitor’s footprint, the space needed to rotate it, and whether the stand or arm leaves room for your keyboard and other equipment.

Can a regular monitor be used vertically?
Yes, if its supplied stand permits rotation or a compatible separate stand or arm can position it upright. If the screen has VESA mounting holes, confirm their pattern and the display’s weight against the mount’s specifications, along with desk-clamp clearance and the movement range needed to rotate the screen safely. A screen that lacks a pivoting stand is not automatically unsuitable, but it may require a separate mounting solution.
