It is a Fabric modpack marked as client-side, server-side, and client-and-server compatible, so you can install the server-required portion while players use matching client installations. Use Java 25, Mojang’s official 26.1.2 server jar, and the pack’s required Fabric files. The first launch creates the configuration files and stops for EULA acceptance; after changing eula=false to eula=true, restart the server. For private groups, a self-hosted server offers the most control at no hosting charge. LAN is simplest for people in one home, Realms is the easiest managed option but does not support world-side modded blocks, entities, or dimensions, and rented hosting generally provides better uptime with less control.
What Vanilla V2 is—and what “server-side” means
Vanilla V2 is a Fabric modpack for Minecraft Java Edition. Its stated aim is “Vanilla, but sweeter!” with enhancements and optimisations rather than a wholesale replacement of Minecraft. The pack combines quality-of-life changes, visual and performance improvements, interface updates, world-generation changes, and minor gameplay adjustments.

Modrinth identifies the project as compatible with three installation patterns: client-side, server-side, and client-and-server. That label matters when you are planning a multiplayer world. A client-only visual or interface mod can stay on a player’s computer, while anything that changes world generation, game rules, entities, blocks, or server logic must be available to the server and normally to every joining client in the compatible pack version.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Client-only installation: useful for local visual, interface, or performance changes that do not alter the shared world.
- Server installation: required for the pack’s server logic and any world-side changes. Put the required server-compatible files in the server’s
modsfolder. - Client-and-server installation: the safest choice when the pack release includes both sides. Every player should use the same Minecraft version and the same compatible Vanilla V2 release.
Do not copy every file from a client’s mods folder to the server. Client-only mods are generally unnecessary on a dedicated server and can prevent it from starting. Keep a separate, clean server folder and add only the files identified as required for the server by the pack’s current release instructions.

Requirements for Minecraft 26.1.2
Minecraft Java Edition
This setup is for Minecraft Java Edition, not the Bedrock edition. Mojang’s Java Team announced 26.1.2 as a hotfix on April 9, 2026 and provides an official cross-platform server jar for that release. Download the server jar for 26.1.2 rather than reusing a jar from another Minecraft version.
Java 25
The cited CurseForge setup guide recommends Java 25 for Minecraft 26.1 and later. Install a 64-bit Java 25 runtime on the computer that will run the server, then verify it in a terminal or command prompt:
java -version
The output should identify Java 25. If the command is not found, Java is not installed or its executable is not on your system path. If it reports an older major version, install Java 25 or change the server shortcut to the full path of the Java 25 executable. Checking the version in the same account that will launch the server avoids a common problem in which a graphical launcher uses one Java installation while the terminal uses another.
Computer, storage, and network
- Create a dedicated folder for the server so logs, configuration files, world data, and backups are kept together.
- Use a computer with enough free memory for the operating system, Java, Minecraft, and the number of players you expect. The reference launch command assigns 4 GB to the server with
-Xmx4G -Xms4G; treat that as a starting command, not a guarantee for every player count or mod configuration. - Use a stable wired or strong wireless connection. A self-hosted world is available only while the host computer and server process are running.
- Back up the world folder before changing mods, updating the pack, or opening the server to new players.
Choose where the world will run
The right hosting model depends on whether the world must stay online, how much administrative control you want, and how much network work you are willing to do.
| Option | Upfront and recurring cost | When the world is online | Mod and world-side support | Network setup | Control and limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LAN | Free | When the host opens the world and remains available on the same local network | Possible when all players use compatible client files; a normal LAN session is less configurable than a dedicated server | No internet port forwarding for players in the same home network | Simple, but tied to the host’s game session and local network |
| Self-hosted dedicated server | No hosting fee; you provide the computer, electricity, and connection | Whenever the computer and server process stay running | Best control for installing Fabric and server-required Vanilla V2 files | Local firewall configuration; port forwarding commonly uses TCP port 25565 for outside players | Full access to files, backups, settings, and logs; performance depends on your hardware and upload capacity |
| Realms for Java | The cited May 13, 2026 guide listed $7.99 per month; verify the current regional price before subscribing | Managed and intended to be always available | Realms cannot add world-side modded blocks, entities, or dimensions, so it is not a full Vanilla V2 server replacement | No home port forwarding | Very little server administration; convenient for an unmodded or lightly client-enhanced world |
| Third-party Minecraft hosting | Varies by provider, memory allocation, location, and billing term | Usually always online while the service is paid and healthy | Depends on the provider’s Fabric, modpack, file-upload, and version support; confirm 26.1.2 and Vanilla V2 compatibility first | No home router configuration in most cases; you use the provider’s address and panel | Less hardware maintenance, but provider limits, support quality, resource caps, and uptime vary |
Choose LAN for a same-house session. Choose self-hosting when you want complete control and can leave a computer running. Choose Realms only if its managed convenience outweighs the lack of world-side mod support. A rented host is the practical choice when outside players need a persistent world but nobody wants to maintain a home server.
Set up a self-hosted 26.1.2 server
1. Make the server folder
- Create a new folder with a short name such as
vanilla-v2-2612. Avoid placing it inside a cloud-synchronised folder, where partially written world files can be conflicted or locked. - Download Mojang’s official Minecraft 26.1.2 server jar into that folder.
- If the downloaded file has a different filename, either rename it to
server.jaror use its actual filename in every launch command. Consistency prevents a “file not found” error.
2. Confirm Java and perform the first launch
Open a terminal or command prompt in the server folder and run:
Rank #2

- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.
- SURVIVE THE ADVENTURE — Face mysterious foes, travel across exciting landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
java -version
java -Xmx4G -Xms4G -jar server.jar nogui
The first command confirms the runtime. The second starts the server without opening a graphical interface. The initial run generates the EULA, world, server properties, and other files, then stops because the EULA has not yet been accepted. That stop is expected; it is not a crash.
3. Accept the EULA and restart
- Open the newly created
eula.txtin a plain-text editor. - Change
eula=falsetoeula=true, then save the file. - Run the same Java launch command again and keep the terminal window open while the server is in use.
Do not accept the EULA by creating a different file or by changing unrelated settings. The server checks this exact file in its own folder.
4. Install Fabric and Vanilla V2’s server files
Vanilla V2 is a Fabric pack, so use the Fabric loader and loader version specified by the pack’s current release. If the pack provides a server pack or a list of required server files, follow that list rather than guessing from the client download. Place server-required mods in the server’s mods folder, alongside any dependency files the pack identifies.
Keep client-only visual, interface, and performance mods out of the server folder. They can remain on a player’s client when the pack marks them as client-only. If the pack release does not clearly identify a file as server-compatible, test it in a copied world before using it on the live server.
For downloading the pack, use its current Modrinth project files and check that the selected release lists Minecraft 26.1.2 and the appropriate Fabric loader. Modrinth Hosting may also be offered as a managed deployment route; verify that its listing supports this exact game version and pack release before committing to a plan.
5. Set basic server properties
After the first successful launch, stop the server cleanly from its console and edit server.properties. Before inviting anyone, set:
Rank #3
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that is unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world full of surprises.
- SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
- COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.
online-mode=true
white-list=true
online-mode=true requires authenticated Minecraft accounts. white-list=true blocks players who have not been explicitly approved. Start the server again, then add trusted player names from the console with the normal whitelist command, for example:
whitelist add PlayerName
Use the exact in-game account name. If a player changes account names, remove the old entry and add the current one. Keep operator privileges limited to people who administer the world.
6. Create a repeatable launch script
Once the command works, save it in a platform-appropriate batch or shell script in the server folder. A repeatable script prevents accidental launches with the wrong Java installation or memory flags. Do not close the console while players are connected; use the server’s stop command so the world is saved before shutting down.

Install the matching client for every player
Every player should launch Minecraft Java Edition 26.1.2, not merely “the latest version.” A client on another release can fail during the handshake or load the wrong asset and mod set. Install the Fabric loader version required by the Vanilla V2 release, then install the client files listed by that release.
- Use exactly Minecraft 26.1.2.
- Use the same compatible Vanilla V2 release on every client.
- Install dependencies named by the pack.
- Do not add unrelated mods until the unmodified pack joins successfully.
- Keep client-only mods on the client and server-required mods on both sides when the pack specifies that arrangement.
For a first connection, test with one administrator account before distributing the pack to the whole group. This isolates a loader or mod mismatch from a network problem.
Let players connect
LAN play
LAN requires all players to be on the same local network. Start the world, choose the LAN option, and share the address and port Minecraft displays with the other players. This avoids internet port forwarding but ends when the host closes the world or leaves the network.
Rank #4
- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
Internet access to a self-hosted server
Outside players normally connect through the host’s public address and the server port. Port 25565 is the common default. You may need to allow Java or the server port through the computer’s firewall and create a router port-forwarding rule to the host computer’s local address.
Recommended Free Tools
- Give the host computer a stable local address so the router rule does not point to a different device later.
- Forward only the port the server uses; do not expose unrelated administrative services.
- Share the public address privately with whitelisted players.
- If the router uses carrier-grade NAT or the internet provider blocks inbound connections, ordinary port forwarding may not work. In that case, use LAN, a managed service, or a network solution designed for private game access.
Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot, rather than from the same home Wi-Fi. A local test can succeed even when the router is not accepting outside connections.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Security and maintenance checklist
- Keep
online-mode=trueand use a whitelist for a private group. - Give operator status only to people who need it.
- Back up the world before changing the Minecraft version, Fabric loader, or Vanilla V2 release.
- Keep a copy of
server.properties, whitelist data, and the exact mod list with each backup. - Stop the server cleanly before copying world files.
- Do not mix files from different Minecraft or modpack versions in one live world.
- Watch the console after updates. A dependency error or a failed registry load should be fixed before players join.
Troubleshooting common failures
The server says Java is unsupported or will not start
Run java -version in the server folder. If it is not Java 25, correct the installation or launch the server with the full path to Java 25. Also confirm that the command is using the intended jar filename.
The first launch stops immediately
Open eula.txt and change only the value after the equals sign to true. Save it in the same folder as the server jar, then rerun the launch command. If the file is recreated, you edited a copy in another directory.
The server crashes after adding Vanilla V2 files
Remove the last-added files and start with the pack’s documented server set. A client-only mod, missing dependency, wrong Fabric loader, or release for a different Minecraft version can stop startup. Add files in small groups and read the first meaningful error in the log instead of relying on the final shutdown message.
A player gets a version or mod mismatch
Confirm Minecraft is 26.1.2 on both sides, then compare the Vanilla V2 release, Fabric loader, and dependency files. The server and client must agree on every server-required component. Remove extra client mods temporarily to identify an incompatible addition.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Players on the internet cannot connect
First test from the host computer itself, then from another device on the same home network, and finally from a different internet connection. If local tests pass but the outside test fails, check the operating-system firewall, router forwarding to the correct local address, the server port, and whether the internet connection permits inbound traffic. Make sure the server process is still running when the connection is attempted.
A Realms world will not load the full pack
That limitation is expected. Realms does not support adding world-side modded blocks, entities, or dimensions. Client-only enhancements may still be usable, but a complete Vanilla V2 server installation requires a Fabric-capable dedicated server or a hosting service that explicitly supports the pack.
Which setup is best for your group?
Choose LAN when everyone is together
LAN is free and has almost no network administration. It is appropriate for a short session in one home, not for a persistent community world or friends connecting from different locations.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoose self-hosting when control matters most
A self-hosted Fabric server is the strongest fit for Vanilla V2 when you can leave a computer running. You control the mod files, backups, whitelist, logs, and configuration without a monthly hosting bill. The trade-off is responsibility for Java updates, router and firewall configuration, hardware performance, and uptime.
Choose Realms for managed simplicity only when you do not need world-side mods
Realms avoids port forwarding and home-server maintenance, but its world-side mod restrictions conflict with the parts of Vanilla V2 that must run on the server. Treat it as an option for an otherwise vanilla world with permissible client enhancements, not as a drop-in Fabric host.
Choose third-party hosting for persistent availability
A managed host is usually the better fit when players live in different locations and expect the world to be available while the owner is offline. Before paying, verify the provider’s Minecraft 26.1.2 support, Fabric support, ability to upload or select Vanilla V2, memory and player limits, backup policy, cancellation terms, and stated uptime. Provider quality and limits vary, so a generic “modded server” label is not enough.
For a managed option, Godlike.Host offers Minecraft Java and modded Minecraft hosting with its own game panel, a built-in mod installer and SFTP/FTP access; verify current plans support Minecraft 26.1.2 and Vanilla V2 before committing.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Configure port 25565 and the firewall only if outside players need access.
- Give every player the exact Minecraft 26.1.2 and Vanilla V2 client setup.
- Back up the world before every version or mod change.
For most groups wanting the complete Vanilla V2 experience, a Fabric self-hosted server or a verified Fabric-capable third-party host is the correct path. LAN is the low-effort local alternative, while Realms is convenient only when its world-side mod restrictions fit the world you intend to run.
