GTX Gaming is the strongest all-round choice for an Australian Valheim group when you want a documented Sydney location, 10GB of RAM for a 10-player vanilla server, crossplay, daily backups and world migration. Its listed price is A$22.92 per month. PXA Gaming is the lowest-cost local-hardware option, starting at A$8.99 for four players, while Shockbyte offers a lower-entry managed plan at A$14.37 for four players.
Your best choice still depends on where your players live, whether you need console crossplay, and whether you will run Valheim Plus or BepInEx. Test latency from each player’s ISP and verify renewal terms before paying.

1. GTX Gaming: best documented all-round option
GTX Gaming has the most complete Australian feature set in the published information. Its Sydney location addresses the main latency concern for players in eastern Australia, and the checkout flow includes a ping test so you can measure the route from your own connection before committing.

Vanilla capacity and price
The listed vanilla plan provides 10 slots and 10GB of RAM for A$22.92 per month. Vanilla Valheim’s standard cap is 10 players, so this tier matches the game’s normal limit without requiring a slot-expanding mod.
Modded capacity
GTX lists Valheim Plus tiers at A$67.95 per month for 24 slots with 16GB RAM, A$97.13 for 32 slots with 24GB, and A$170.81 for 64 slots with 32GB. The provider describes these larger plans as ready for Valheim Plus, which is the usual route to capacities above the vanilla 10-player limit. GTX also explicitly mentions BepInEx support.

Daily automatic backups, world migration, DDoS protection and 24/7 support are included in the published feature list. Daily backups reduce the maximum amount of progress you could lose to roughly one backup interval, but you should still ask how many restore points are retained and whether restoring is a self-service action or a support ticket.
2. PXA Gaming: cheapest Sydney-based starting point
PXA is the budget alternative when your priority is an Australian server on locally identified hardware. Its pricing page places the plans on OVH Sydney SYD3 hardware and says network-edge DDoS protection is included.
Published tiers
- A$8.99/month: four players and 4GB RAM.
- A$16.99/month: the full 10-player vanilla cap and 4GB RAM.
- A$24.99/month: up to 20 modded players and 6GB RAM.
The 10-player plan is less expensive than GTX’s 10-slot tier, but it includes 4GB rather than 10GB of RAM. That difference matters if you add many plugins, large world-save files or several simultaneous structures and entities.
Rank #2
What the latency figures mean
PXA publishes approximate round-trip latency of 15ms in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, 25ms in Victoria, 30ms in Queensland, 40ms in South Australia, 50ms in the Northern Territory and 45–55ms in Western Australia. These are the provider’s estimates, not measurements taken from every ISP. Have each player test the route at the times they normally play; a congested evening route can be slower than a daytime estimate.
Mod support and backups
PXA lists one-click BepInEx and Valheim Plus on its Clan tier. Its published backup wording says backups are available on request, rather than promising a fixed automatic schedule. Before moving an established world, ask how a backup is requested, how long it is retained and whether you can download it yourself.
3. Shockbyte: low entry price with managed tools
Shockbyte’s Australian page lists instant setup, FTP access, automatic backups, DDoS protection, 24/7 support and support for full Valheim mods and Valheim Plus.
Plans
- A$14.37/month: four players and 3GB RAM.
- A$18.69/month: seven players and 4GB RAM.
- A$24.44/month: 10 players and 6GB or more RAM.
The four-player tier is cheaper than GTX’s 10-slot plan because it is sized for a small group. The 10-player tier costs slightly more than PXA’s 10-player offer but lists 6GB or more RAM, which gives more headroom for moderate mod use.
Refund and location checks
The page advertises a 72-hour self-serve refund window. Treat that as a short evaluation period: test login, save, backups, mod loading and latency immediately rather than waiting until the third day. The page does not establish the exact Australian datacentre in the supplied information, so confirm the physical location and network route at checkout.

4. MintServers: verify before treating it as an option
Search results show MintServers advertising Valheim hosting from $9.99 per month, Sydney availability, DDoS protection and 24/7 support. The underlying page was not available for verification, so the current price, currency, RAM, player limit, backup policy, refund terms and mod tooling are not established. Consider it a lead, not a confirmed recommendation, until the checkout page states those details clearly.
How much RAM does a Valheim server need?
RAM is only one part of performance, but the published plans show a useful sizing pattern. A small vanilla world can run on 3–4GB in the entry tiers, while 6–10GB gives more margin for a full 10-player group and growth. Larger modded populations need substantially more: GTX lists 16GB for 24 Valheim Plus slots, 24GB for 32 slots and 32GB for 64 slots.
| Use case | Published RAM examples | Practical choice |
|---|---|---|
| Four-player vanilla | 3GB at Shockbyte; 4GB at PXA | Choose 4GB if you expect a growing world or occasional plugins |
| Seven-player vanilla | 4GB at Shockbyte | Suitable for a small regular group; leave headroom if modded |
| Ten-player vanilla | 4GB at PXA; 6GB+ at Shockbyte; 10GB at GTX | Prioritise more RAM when the world is long-running or heavily built |
| Twenty modded players | 6GB at PXA | Confirm the mod list and CPU allocation before ordering |
| Twenty-four to 64 Valheim Plus slots | 16GB, 24GB and 32GB at GTX | Use the tier matching your intended concurrent population |
None of the supplied plan pages states a guaranteed CPU model, dedicated-core policy or CPU limit. Ask whether CPU resources are shared, what happens during host-node contention and whether the provider can increase RAM without rebuilding the world.
Ping: finding the lowest-latency Australian server
Distance is the first filter, not the final answer. Sydney is the consistently identified Australian location in the published pages, but players in Perth, Darwin or South Australia may see a materially different route than players in Sydney, Canberra or Melbourne.
Recommended Free Tools
- List every regular player’s city, ISP and normal play window.
- Use GTX’s pre-purchase ping test if considering that host.
- For other providers, ask for the server IP or a temporary test endpoint and run a standard ping or traceroute from each connection. A provider’s website estimate is not a substitute for your route.
- Choose the location that gives the group the best compromise, rather than optimising for the host’s city alone.
- Repeat the check during evening congestion before cancelling an existing server.
In Valheim, a stable route is generally preferable to a slightly lower but erratic ping. Record packet loss and disconnects as well as average latency, since a low average does not prevent problems caused by drops or route changes.

Crossplay for PC and console players
Crossplay must be confirmed as a feature, not inferred from a server’s location. GTX explicitly lists crossplay. The supplied PXA and Shockbyte details do not explicitly confirm console crossplay, so ask support whether the current dedicated-server build supports the platforms in your group and whether any crossplay toggle or join-code workflow is required.
Before migrating a shared world, have one PC player and one console player join a new test world. Verify that both can connect, see the same world version, use the intended password or join code and reconnect after a restart. Crossplay support can be affected by game updates and mod loaders; test again after major Valheim patches.

Mod support changes both the server’s resource needs and the maintenance routine. GTX and Shockbyte explicitly mention Valheim Plus and BepInEx support. PXA lists one-click BepInEx and Valheim Plus on its Clan tier. That does not mean every mod is compatible or automatically updated.
Before installing a mod pack
- Write down the exact Valheim version and mod-loader version required by every player.
- Back up the world and configuration files before the first change.
- Install server-side dependencies through the host panel or FTP, then mirror the required client files.
- Test in a copy of the world so a failed dependency does not damage the live save.
- Disable automatic mod updates until the group has verified a new release.
Valheim Plus can raise the slot ceiling, but the higher-capacity tiers should be matched to actual concurrent players. Buying a 64-slot plan for a group of 12 adds cost without solving a mod compatibility problem.
Backups, migration and recovery
A mature Valheim world is usually worth more than the monthly hosting fee, so backup and migration terms deserve the same attention as RAM. GTX lists daily automatic backups and world migration. Shockbyte lists automatic backups. PXA says backups are available on request.

Questions to ask before moving
- How often are automatic backups created, and how many generations are retained?
- Can you download a backup, or does support hold it for you?
- Can the provider restore only the world, or also server configuration and mod files?
- Is migration an assisted service, a panel upload or an FTP copy?
- Are backups stored on separate infrastructure from the game server?
Safe migration sequence
- Stop the old server cleanly so the latest world save is written.
- Download the world files and record the server name, password, seed and mod versions.
- Start the new server with the same Valheim and mod-loader versions.
- Upload the world through the control panel or FTP, then set the correct world name.
- Join with one tester first; check inventory, map progress, portals and structures.
- Keep the old copy read-only until the group has completed a normal play session.
DDoS protection, support and control-panel checks
All three main candidates advertise some form of DDoS protection, but “protected” does not describe capacity, mitigation time or what happens during an attack. Ask whether protection is included at the network edge, whether an attack can trigger suspension and how support communicates during an incident.

24/7 support means tickets can be submitted at any time; it does not guarantee an immediate human response. During the trial or refund window, submit a real question, request a backup and restart the server to see how quickly the provider responds.
Control-panel usability matters for routine tasks: changing the password, stopping the server before a world copy, installing BepInEx, reviewing logs, scheduling restarts and restoring a backup. FTP access, which Shockbyte lists, is useful when a mod or world file must be uploaded manually.
What the monthly price does—and does not—tell you
Entry prices are not directly comparable because player slots, RAM and features differ. PXA’s A$8.99 plan is for four players, while GTX’s A$22.92 plan is for the full 10-player vanilla cap and includes a larger stated RAM allocation. Shockbyte’s A$14.37 plan is also limited to four players and lists 3GB.
Confirm whether the advertised amount is a recurring monthly renewal price, whether tax is included, whether billing defaults to monthly or a longer term, and whether upgrades preserve the same server and IP. The supplied information does not establish GTX or PXA refund periods, so obtain those terms in writing before ordering.
A practical buying decision
Choose GTX Gaming when
- You want a documented Sydney location and a built-in ping test.
- Your group needs crossplay stated on the product page.
- You value daily automatic backups and world migration.
- You may grow beyond 10 players with Valheim Plus.
Choose PXA Gaming when
- Your priority is the lowest listed price on Sydney hardware.
- You have four players and want to start at A$8.99/month.
- You are comfortable requesting backups rather than relying on a published automatic schedule.
- Your mod plan fits the Clan tier’s one-click BepInEx and Valheim Plus support.
Choose Shockbyte when
- You want instant setup, FTP and automatic backups.
- You need a four-player entry tier or a 10-player tier with 6GB or more RAM.
- You want a stated 72-hour self-serve refund window.
- You will confirm the actual Australian datacentre and route before paying.
Investigate MintServers only when
- You can verify the current Sydney location, currency, RAM, slots, backups and renewal price at checkout.
- Support confirms mod and crossplay requirements in writing.
Pre-purchase and first-day checklist
- Measure latency and packet loss from every regular player’s ISP.
- Confirm the physical Australian datacentre, not merely an “Australia” sales page.
- Match player slots and RAM to vanilla or modded concurrency.
- Verify PC-console crossplay if anyone is not on PC.
- Check Valheim Plus, BepInEx and FTP availability for your exact plan.
- Read backup frequency, retention and restore instructions.
- Record the recurring price, tax treatment, contract term and refund window.
- Test restart, save, password change, mod installation and restore before inviting the whole group.
Bottom line
For most Australian groups, GTX Gaming is the safest recommendation because its Sydney location, 10-player/10GB vanilla plan, crossplay listing, daily backups and migration support are documented together. PXA Gaming is the value pick when a Sydney server and low monthly cost matter more than a large RAM allocation or automatic backup schedule. Shockbyte is a sensible managed alternative for small groups, especially if its 72-hour refund and FTP access fit your testing plan. Whichever host you select, validate the route from your players’ connections and confirm the live price and policies immediately before checkout.
