Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For a 24/7 sleep-sounds stream, choose your upload target from the encoder bitrate—not your internet plan’s download speed. YouTube’s current recommended H.264 settings are 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. Your connection needs to sustain the full outgoing stream bitrate, including audio, with practical spare capacity for variation and other household use. YouTube does not publish a special speed requirement for sleep sounds or 24-hour broadcasts.
What upload speed do you need for a 24/7 YouTube live stream?
Use the upload direction of your connection as the constraint. YouTube’s recommended H.264 encoder bitrates are a useful starting point for a mostly static sleep visual:
| Stream setting | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These are encoder bitrate recommendations, not broadband-plan requirements or guarantees that a connection will hold a stream. A low-motion sleep scene generally gives little reason to choose 60 fps; compare 720p30 and 1080p30 first. The appropriate choice depends on the picture you want and what your connection can sustain.
YouTube’s table also includes lower minimum encoder figures—for example, 5 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30—but that is not a suitable broadband target by itself. It does not account for upload fluctuations, audio, or other devices using the connection. YouTube’s guidance is to “Make sure you choose a quality that will result in a reliable stream based on your internet connection.” See its live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Is 10 Mbps upload enough for a sleep sounds stream?
It may be enough for a 720p30 stream only if the measured, sustained upload at the streaming location can carry the complete outgoing bitrate reliably, with practical spare capacity. It is below YouTube’s recommended 14 Mbps H.264 bitrate for 1080p30, so do not treat 10 Mbps as a comfortable 1080p30 target. These comparisons concern the encoder’s stream bitrate; they are not a guarantee of performance on any particular plan.
Plan labels can be misleading if they emphasize download speed or do not clearly state upload. Measure upload where the encoder will run, and test while the household is using the network as it normally would. There is no universal spare-capacity multiplier established by YouTube in the guidance cited here, so avoid treating a particular percentage as an official rule.

How to assess Indian broadband for continuous streaming
- Check the exact plan at your address. Confirm its upload terms and any fair-use or data limits; a headline download figure does not establish upload capacity.
- Measure at the streaming location. Run an upload speed test where your encoder will connect. YouTube specifically recommends testing upload bitrate.
- Use a wired connection if practical. Ethernet between the encoder and router can avoid some local wireless variability, but it cannot increase the ISP’s provisioned upload speed or guarantee an uninterrupted stream.
- Repeat under realistic conditions. Test at times when household or local network use differs, and check whether other devices consume the spare upload capacity.
A document hosted by TRAI contains a stakeholder’s proposed broadband definition of at least 10 Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upload. The document also discusses claimed versus realized speeds. This is a stakeholder submission, not an adopted TRAI standard, a current nationwide speed statistic, or an assessment of any ISP. Its proposed 3 Mbps upload is below YouTube’s recommended 8 Mbps H.264 bitrate for 720p30 and 14 Mbps for 1080p30; that comparison is arithmetic between the two figures, not a conclusion stated in the submission. No India-wide statistic establishing sustained upload speeds for this specific use is available here. Read the TRAI-hosted submission.
Which encoder settings affect the upload target?
Alongside resolution and frame rate, codec, bitrate mode, keyframes, and audio settings affect setup. YouTube’s current live guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1; frame rates up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. For audio, it lists AAC or MP3 and recommends 128 Kbps for stereo. YouTube recommends RTMPS as an encrypted form of RTMP. Check the current guide before configuring an encoder, since platform settings can change.

- Resolution and frame rate: Start by comparing 720p30 and 1080p30 for a mostly static visual; the table above gives YouTube’s H.264 recommendations.
- Bitrate: Set the encoder’s outgoing bitrate based on the selected resolution and YouTube’s table, then confirm the connection can sustain it. Do not confuse an encoder minimum with a broadband target.
- Keyframes and bitrate mode: Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval as YouTube recommends; do not exceed four seconds.
- Audio: Use a supported audio format and account for audio in the stream’s total outgoing bitrate.
How to test before committing to a 24/7 broadcast
- Choose an initial resolution and frame rate, such as 720p30 or 1080p30, and set the encoder bitrate using YouTube’s current table.
- Run an upload speed test at the actual streaming location, as YouTube recommends.
- Test using the real audio and representative motion or loop behavior. Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages during the test.
- Repeat at different times and with typical household network use. There is no official test duration or pass threshold specified in the guidance cited here.
- Separately plan how the encoder, internet connection, and power will recover after an interruption. A successful speed test only shows how the connection performed during that test; it does not establish continuous uptime.
What upload speed cannot solve in a 24/7 setup
Bandwidth is only one part of continuity. A local setup also depends on the computer and encoder staying on, power remaining available, and the home connection continuing to send the stream. A speed test cannot prove that those systems will remain available around the clock. YouTube recommends testing the stream and monitoring its health; plan separately for interruptions to equipment, power, and connectivity.
