The best TV under $1,000 depends on your room and priorities: choose the LG B5 OLED for dark-room movie contrast, the Hisense U7SG for bright-room viewing and gaming, or the TCL QM6K when a larger screen matters most. These models are recommendations from guides accessed in October 2026, not a guarantee of current price or stock. Check the live price before buying; the $1,000 limit may also need to cover taxes, delivery, and setup.

Which TV under $1,000 fits your needs?

There is no single best choice for every room. These picks trade off black levels, brightness, viewing angle, screen size, gaming features, and operating system.

TV Best fit What stands out What to consider
LG B5 OLED Movies and dark-room viewing OLED pixels produce deep blacks without the halos that local dimming can create around bright objects. Bright-room reflections can be distracting. RTINGS reported in October 2026 that the 55-inch model was being cleared out for under $1,000 but could be difficult to find at that price; the 48-inch was easier to find below budget. Check current stock and pricing. RTINGS’ guide to TVs under $1,000
Hisense U7SG Bright rooms, gaming, or a 65-inch mid-range set Matte screen, high brightness, four HDMI 2.1 ports, 4K at 165Hz, VRR, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+. Viewing angles are narrow, and motion can look blurrier than on OLED. RTINGS described the 65-inch model as an under-$1,000 option when on sale; confirm the live price. RTINGS’ guide to TVs under $1,000
TCL QM6K Value or a larger screen Local dimming and gaming features, including two HDMI 2.1 ports, 4K at 144Hz, and VRR. RTINGS specifically noted the 75-inch size as a potential under-$1,000 buy. Bright HDR highlights are less impactful than on the brighter Hisense option. TCL’s US catalog showed the 65-inch model at a $549.99 sale price in October 2026; that snapshot is not a guaranteed current offer. RTINGS’ guide to TVs under $1,000; TCL’s US catalog
Hisense U75QG Alternative all-rounder, especially for gaming 4K, Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, 165Hz, Google TV, and four HDMI 2.1 ports. Tom’s Guide reported 9.8ms input latency in its 2026 guide. The screen is reflective, viewing from the side is poor, and built-in audio is middling. Tom’s Guide called it its best under-$1,000 pick in August 2026, but cited a $1,500 launch price and said the cost had nearly halved. Treat the budget fit as price-dependent, not assured. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 roundup
Hisense QD7 A less-expensive, under-$500 option Tom’s Guide praised its color and upscaling. It has a 60Hz refresh rate, Fire TV, and four HDMI 2.0 ports. Fire TV can feel sluggish, and the set is less suited to bright rooms. A 60Hz panel and HDMI 2.0 ports are more limited for gaming than the higher-refresh HDMI 2.1 options above. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 roundup
TCL QM7K A feature-rich set if the sale price holds TCL’s US catalog showed the 65-inch QD-Mini LED model at $799.99 in October 2026, against a listed $1,499.99 price. This is a sale snapshot, not a stable price. The same catalog showed the 65-inch QM8K at $999.99 against a much higher listed price, so verify both the live offer and the budget after taxes and delivery. TCL’s US catalog
TCL QM7L A newer 55-inch option with strong measured HDR brightness TechRadar lists SQD Mini-LED, 144Hz, Dolby Vision IQ, Google TV, and two HDMI 2.1 ports. Its April 2026 launch price was $999.99 for 55 inches. The 65-inch launch price was $1,299.99, so only the 55-inch launch price fits the budget before taxes or fees. TechRadar measured 2,270 nits in HDR Filmmaker Mode on a 10% window and 723 nits full-screen in the same mode; these are review measurements, not a promise of identical results in every scene. TechRadar’s QM7L review

How to choose for your room and seating

Bright room or daytime viewing

Prioritize brightness and a screen treatment that controls reflections. The U7SG has a matte screen, while the U75QG’s reflective screen was a reported drawback. A bright panel can help with daytime viewing, but it does not guarantee a clear picture from every seat.

Wide seating or viewing from the side

Check viewing-angle performance if people will sit far off-center. The U7SG and U75QG both have reported narrow or poor off-axis viewing. A set that looks vivid from directly in front may lose contrast or color for side seats.

OLED versus Mini-LED for movies and dark scenes

The LG B5’s OLED pixels can switch off individually, producing deep blacks without the local-dimming halos that can appear around bright objects on LCD sets. This makes OLED compelling for movies in a dim room. Reflections are the tradeoff in a bright space.

Mini-LED LCD models such as the TCL QM6K and QM7K can offer larger screen sizes and lower prices, but black depth and the impact of bright HDR highlights vary by model. The QM6K is a value-oriented choice; RTINGS says its bright HDR highlights are less impactful than the U7SG’s. Do not assume every Mini-LED set performs alike just because it uses the same broad display technology.

What gaming specifications matter?

Match the TV to the devices you will actually connect. HDMI 2.1 port count matters if you have multiple current-generation consoles or a gaming PC; native refresh rate and variable refresh rate (VRR) affect how the set handles high-frame-rate play and changing frame rates. A higher refresh-rate number alone does not make a TV the better gaming choice.

  • The U7SG and U75QG list four HDMI 2.1 ports and 165Hz; the U7SG also lists VRR.
  • The QM6K lists two HDMI 2.1 ports, 144Hz, and VRR.
  • The QM7L lists two HDMI 2.1 ports and 144Hz.
  • The QD7 is a more basic gaming option with a 60Hz panel and four HDMI 2.0 ports.

Tom’s Guide reported 9.8ms input latency for the U75QG in its 2026 roundup. That is a product-specific figure from that guide, not a universal measure of gaming responsiveness across these models. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 roundup

How screen size affects the $1,000 budget

A lower-priced set can leave room for a larger screen: RTINGS singled out the TCL QM6K’s 75-inch version as a possible under-$1,000 choice. By contrast, the QM7L’s April 2026 launch price put its 55-inch size at $999.99 and its 65-inch size at $1,299.99. Those launch figures are not current-price guarantees.

Compare the delivered total, not only the listing price. Taxes, delivery, and a wall mount can push a set over budget; the mount is optional and should be chosen only after checking the TV’s mounting compatibility.

Smart-TV software and built-in sound

The models use different platforms, including Google TV on the U75QG and QM7L and Fire TV on the QD7. Consider the interface you prefer and whether your streaming services and devices are supported. Tom’s Guide noted middling audio on the U75QG, while a soundbar is an optional add-on rather than a requirement for every buyer. Choose one only if the built-in sound does not meet your needs.

What does “best TV under $1,000” mean?

It means a strong fit for a particular buyer at a qualifying price—not a permanent ranking independent of sales. James Frew of Tom’s Guide wrote, “The good thing about the best TVs under $1,000 is they’re not really a compromise anymore.” That is an editorial opinion, not a measurement. The practical compromise is choosing which feature matters most: OLED contrast, bright-room visibility, gaming connectivity, screen size, or a particular smart-TV platform.
