The best TV accessories are the ones that solve a specific setup problem: a secure mount, the right cable, clearer audio, an external streaming player, simpler control, or tidier and safer power and wiring. Start with your TV model, available ports, room layout and viewing goals; many households do not need every category.
Choose accessories by the problem you need to solve
| Need | Accessory category | What to verify first |
|---|---|---|
| Place the TV securely or change its viewing angle | Wall mount or stand | VESA pattern, TV weight, screw depth, mount ratings, wall material and installation method |
| Connect a console, disc player, receiver or sound system | HDMI, optical and other cables | Source and destination ports plus required resolution, HDR and audio features |
| Improve or separate TV audio | Soundbar or home-theater equipment | TV audio outputs, ARC/eARC or optical support, placement and included cables |
| Add an external platform or feature | Streaming device | Available HDMI input, supported resolution and HDR formats, network requirements and remote preferences |
| Reduce remote juggling | Replacement or universal remote | Compatibility with the TV and connected devices, voice features and control limits |
| Organize wires or add power protection | Cable-management products and surge-protection equipment | Load ratings, outlet count, cable capacity and the limits of the protection claim |
Retail category pages from LG and Dell show these as broad accessory groups, not independent quality rankings.
TV wall mounts and stands
Mounting is the accessory decision with the greatest safety consequence. Roku Support puts the basic test plainly: “When choosing a wall mount for your TV, you should consider both the compatibility and safety factors of the mount.”
Check compatibility before buying
- Look up the exact TV model’s VESA hole pattern, usually expressed as horizontal by vertical millimeters.
- Confirm the mount supports the TV’s weight, screen-size range and orientation.
- Check the TV manual for screw diameter, length and required screw depth. A screw that is too long can damage the display.
- Verify that the mount includes suitable hardware for the wall type. Stud, masonry and other surfaces have different installation requirements.
- Allow room for power, HDMI and other plugs so cables are not sharply bent or crushed.
Use Roku’s wall-mounting tips and the television’s own manual as the compatibility and installation references. The mount’s printed size range alone is not enough.

Pick fixed, tilting or full-motion
- Fixed: Keeps the screen close to the wall and suits a seating position directly in front of the TV.
- Tilt: Angles the screen downward or upward, useful when the TV is mounted above normal eye level or when reflections need adjustment.
- Full-motion: Adds swivel and extension, helping corner installations or rooms with more than one seating direction. It needs more clearance and careful cable routing.
For height, measure seated eye level rather than copying a generic mounting height. Samsung’s placement guidance uses seated viewing position as the starting point.
Cables: match the connection, not the marketing
Identify the source device, the TV or receiver it connects to, the ports on both ends and the features you need. An expensive cable does not automatically create a better picture or sound when a correctly specified cable already carries the required signal.

Use the TV’s connection map
LG’s connection guide maps common devices to HDMI and other cable types and explains soundbar connections. For a soundbar or receiver, check whether the TV and audio device support HDMI ARC or eARC; optical is another option when both devices provide optical ports.
Check features end to end
- For a game console or player, verify that the TV input and cable can carry the resolution and refresh rate you intend to use.
- For HDR, confirm support on the source, cable path and display; the cable cannot add an HDR format the devices do not support.
- For surround or object-based audio, check the TV, receiver or soundbar connection and format support. Dolby’s home-theater setup guide explains the signal path and connection choices.
- Count available HDMI inputs before adding devices. If they are all occupied, an HDMI switch may be needed, but verify its supported formats and remote behavior.
Soundbars and external audio
A soundbar is an option for viewers who want a separate audio system, clearer dialogue, more volume or a different speaker layout. It is not an automatic requirement: built-in TV speakers may be adequate for a small room or casual viewing.

Confirm the connection
- HDMI ARC or eARC can carry TV audio over one cable when both devices support the feature.
- Optical works when the TV and soundbar have matching optical ports, but it may not provide every newer audio capability.
- Bluetooth can be convenient for some devices, although latency and format support depend on the products.
Place the bar where it does not block the screen or the TV’s remote sensor, and follow the soundbar maker’s guidance for subwoofer or surround speakers. LG lists soundbars and connection methods in its accessory range and connection guide. No universal performance ranking can be inferred without testing specific models in a specific room.
Streaming devices
Buy an external streaming player when you need a platform, app, interface, remote or update support that the TV does not provide. If the TV already has the services and picture features you want, an additional box or stick may add clutter without solving a problem.

Compatibility checklist
- Reserve an HDMI input and confirm the device’s power requirement, including whether a USB port supplies enough power.
- Match the player’s supported resolution and HDR formats to the TV. A device cannot make a non-HDR display show HDR.
- Check Wi-Fi or wired-network needs and the location of the streaming device relative to the router.
- Confirm remote-control behavior if you want one remote to power the TV, change inputs and adjust volume.
Use the device and television specifications together; LG’s device-connection guide and Dolby’s setup guide cover common HDMI and home-theater signal paths.

Remotes
A replacement or universal remote can reduce the number of controllers, but compatibility is model-specific. Check supported TV brands, connected-device control, voice functions and whether setup requires an app or line of sight. Do not assume every remote can operate menus or input switching on every device.

Power and surge protection
A surge protector can provide additional outlets and a stated level of surge protection for a TV and its peripherals. Select one with suitable voltage, joule or clamping specifications and enough spacing for bulky adapters. It cannot guarantee prevention of every failure, fire or wiring hazard; follow local electrical guidance and the product’s limits.
Cable organization
Velcro ties, sleeves, clips and raceways can keep signal and power leads tidy. Choose a system that leaves service loops, does not pinch cables and can be removed without damaging the wall or furniture. Keep ventilation openings clear and separate cables from hot surfaces.
A practical buying sequence
- Write down the exact TV model and photograph its rear and side ports.
- Measure seated eye level, wall or furniture dimensions, and the distance to outlets and connected devices.
- List the devices you will connect and the highest resolution, refresh rate, HDR and audio features required.
- Buy the mount only after matching VESA, weight, screw depth, wall type and movement range.
- Choose cables by the ports and features in that signal path, then add a soundbar or streaming player only if it addresses a stated need.
- Finish with control, power and cable-management accessories sized for the equipment you actually installed.
When you may need nothing extra
A TV with suitable built-in apps, acceptable speakers, enough HDMI inputs and a comfortable stand may need no accessory beyond the cables supplied with your devices. Add an item when it fixes a measurable limitation—unsafe placement, missing input, inadequate audio, an unavailable platform or unmanageable wiring—not simply because it is marketed as an upgrade.
