These tools are for turning real app screens into polished listing assets. They typically help place captures in device frames, add backgrounds and captions, arrange images into a sequence, and prepare localized variants. They do not replace capturing the genuine app UI: use current screens that accurately represent the product, then design around them.

Judge a tool against the store destinations and devices you support, not just its template gallery. Check target dimensions, control over frames and text, localization workflow, ordering, and whether you receive downloadable image files or can upload directly to a store. Confirm how the tool handles the actual app UI; Screenies says it uses real app UI, but that is a vendor claim rather than an independently tested finding.

Apple App Store
Apple permits one to ten screenshots per app listing, in JPEG/JPG or PNG, and images cannot contain alpha transparency. Accepted dimensions vary by device family, display family, and orientation. For example, Apple’s reference includes 1320 × 2868 portrait for one 6.9-inch iPhone class and 1206 × 2622 portrait for one 6.3-inch class; those examples are not universal sizes. Check Apple’s current screenshot specifications for the exact target before exporting.

If your app UI is the same across device sizes and localizations, Apple says you can provide only the highest-resolution screenshots required and let them scale down. You can add device-specific assets through Media Manager when needed. See Apple’s upload guidance for the workflow and applicable cases.
Google Play
Google Play screenshots can appear in places beyond the app’s detail listing, including search and the homepage. Google advises against calls to action such as “Download now” and warns against crowded backgrounds and text too small to read. Its guidance says: “Avoid overloading the screenshot with text in small font sizes or backgrounds that compete with the text.” Read the current Google Play listing asset guidance. When a preview video and screenshots appear together, screenshots follow the video and are ordered left-to-right with device-relevant assets.

Still screenshots are not app-preview videos
A store screenshot tool makes still images. Apple app previews are optional videos, with up to three per supported device size and language for applicable platforms. Apple’s preview workflow calls for a Mac, video editor, and supported device; those are video-production requirements, not prerequisites for exporting still screenshots. If your goal is a compliant still-image set, a video editor alone does not solve it.

A practical workflow for a store-ready set
- Capture the real app. Use screens from the current app build and ensure every depicted control, feature, and result is genuinely available to users.
- List your store targets. Identify the Apple device families and Google Play phone or tablet outputs you need. Consult the live platform specifications rather than assuming a single canvas works everywhere.
- Plan the sequence and message. Give each image a clear purpose, keep headlines short, and make the app UI large enough to inspect. Avoid calls to action on Google Play screenshots and avoid text/background combinations that compete for attention.
- Build and localize. Use frames and backgrounds consistently. Review each language version for line breaks, legibility, and claims that remain accurate after translation.
- Export and inspect. Check dimensions, file format, transparency constraints, cropping, and readability at the size users will see. Review phone and tablet outputs separately rather than assuming one layout fits both.
- Upload and verify in context. Use the store’s current upload flow, then inspect the listing presentation and order. Google Play may show screenshots in more than the detail listing, so avoid relying on context that appears only on the product page.
