For Android games that already support a controller, connect a gamepad directly; for touchscreen-only games, Mantis Gamepad Pro is the clearest documented screen-mapping option. It maps physical gamepad inputs to on-screen controls, but neither Mantis nor the alternatives covered here are established as a full recreation of Steam Deck or Steam Input. The right choice depends on whether you want to control an Android game or a Windows PC game, and on whether your phone and controller work with the app.
Which kind of controller tool do you need?
Start with the game, not the app. A game with native gamepad support can receive controller input directly. A screen mapper is for a different case: the game expects taps on touchscreen buttons, and the mapper associates physical gamepad inputs with locations on the screen.
- Game supports a controller: pair a compatible gamepad with Android and try it in the game first. Mapping software may not be necessary.
- Game uses touch controls only: consider a screen mapper such as Mantis Gamepad Pro, then configure inputs for the game’s on-screen controls.
- You want to use your phone with a Windows PC game: look for a PC companion or remote-control setup. That is a separate use case from mapping controls in an Android game.
These paths can make phone gaming more controller-friendly, but they do not establish Steam Deck-level integration, Steam Input features, or universal compatibility.

Mantis Gamepad Pro is designed to let players use a gamepad with Android games by mapping physical inputs to screen locations. Its product materials describe per-game profiles, virtual mouse mode and other mapping controls. Those features make it the most clearly documented option in this guide for touchscreen-oriented Android games; they are vendor claims, not results from an independent comparative test. The Google Play listing for Mantis Gamepad Pro Beta showed 5 million+ installs and a 4.1 rating when retrieved in 2026. These store figures can change and are not independent measures of mapping quality or game compatibility. Mantis Pro Gaming also reported 10 million+ downloads and 250,000+ monthly users on its 2026 page; those are publisher-reported figures, not independently audited counts.
Panda Gamepad Pro: a named alternative, but not a comparable feature listing
Panda Gaming Studio lists Panda Gamepad Pro alongside Panda Mouse Pro and Panda Touch Pro. The available product information does not establish enough about activation, pricing, Android support or mapping controls to rank Panda Gamepad Pro fairly against Mantis. Gamepad Pro’s Windows companion: for a different target
Gamepad Pro’s support page describes an Android app used with a Windows companion, with the PC recognizing the phone setup as an Xbox 360 controller. That is a PC companion route, not evidence that the app maps a gamepad to touchscreen controls inside Android games. Use this distinction to avoid choosing a PC-oriented tool for the wrong job. What to check before installing a mapper
Android version and activation
Mantis says that Android 10 and below require activation with a PC or a second Android device unless the phone is rooted. Its listing describes on-device activation through Android wireless debugging. Treat these as the publisher’s setup guidance: Android versions, device settings and app instructions can change, so confirm the current steps for your phone before relying on them.

Controller and game compatibility
Mantis says it supports almost all gamepads recognized by Android and names Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, Razer, Logitech, GameSir, iPega and 8BitDo among compatible or tested brands. A brand name is not a guarantee for every controller model, phone, Android build or game. Check the exact controller and phone combination, connection method and the game’s input behavior.
Controls you actually need
Look for controls that fit the game: a profile for each game, mappings for its on-screen buttons, and any pointer or mouse-style input needed for menus. Mantis documents profiles and virtual mouse mode, but the available information does not establish how well a particular configuration works in a particular game. Expect to verify the setup in the game itself.

Choosing a physical gamepad
A mapper needs a physical input device, so choose a gamepad that Android recognizes and confirm its fit with your phone. Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, Razer, Logitech, GameSir, iPega and 8BitDo are examples named by Mantis, not guarantees that every product from those brands will work. Verify your exact controller model, phone, Android version and connection type before buying or configuring it.
