Start with a compatible microSD card if your library is outgrowing internal storage; consider a dock only if you want external displays or connections. Valve already includes a carrying case with the configurations shown on its product page, so another case is optional.
Check whether you own the LCD or OLED model before buying a fitted case or shell. Valve lists different weights, battery capacities, display sizes, and charger-cable lengths for the two versions.

Which Steam Deck accessories are worth buying?
Choose by the problem an accessory solves rather than treating every add-on as essential:
- Need more room for games? A compatible microSD card adds storage through the Deck’s built-in slot.
- Need a different carrying setup? A second case or sleeve may suit a particular travel or packing need; the configurations Valve shows already include a case.
- Want to play on a TV or connect desk gear? A dock or USB-C hub can add display outputs and ports.
- Travel away from an outlet? A spare charger or power bank may be useful, but check its USB-C Power Delivery specifications rather than assuming any battery pack is suitable.
No particular grip, stand, case, charger, or power bank is established here as the best choice. Comfort and protection depend on the person, product, and setup.

Check which Steam Deck model you own
Valve publishes different specifications for LCD and OLED Steam Decks. These are device specifications, not improvements an accessory provides.
| Model | Published weight | Battery capacity | Valve’s gameplay range | Display | Included power supply and cable |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LCD | Approximately 669 g | 40 Wh | 2–8 hours, depending on content | 7 inches | 45 W USB-C PD 3.0; 1.5 m cable |
| OLED | Approximately 640 g | 50 Wh | 3–12 hours, depending on content | 7.4 inches | 45 W USB-C PD 3.0; 2.5 m cable |
These figures come from Valve’s LCD technical specifications and OLED technical specifications. Gameplay ranges are manufacturer estimates, not guarantees; Valve says duration depends on the content being played.
For a fitted case, shell, or other model-specific accessory, verify that the product listing explicitly supports your version. The different display sizes are a reminder not to assume that cutouts and fit are interchangeable.

Add game storage with a microSD card
A microSD card is the clearest add-on for a library that exceeds the Deck’s internal storage. Valve says all models support expansion through a high-speed microSD slot and lists UHS-I, SD, SDXC, and SDHC support. Its product page says games stored on a card appear in the library instantly.
When shopping, search for a “Steam Deck microSD card” and check that the listing states a compatible format and capacity. The published compatibility information establishes supported card types, not a particular brand, capacity recommendation, or performance result.
Choose extra protection only for a specific carrying need
Valve lists a carrying case among the included items for the configurations shown on its Steam Deck OLED product page. A second case, sleeve, or alternative carrying setup therefore makes sense when it addresses a distinct need—for example, a different way to pack or carry the system—not simply because the Deck requires one.

Use a dock or USB-C hub for displays and peripherals
A dock is useful when you want the Deck connected to a TV or monitor, wired networking, or peripherals. It is a desk or display option, not a requirement for handheld play. Valve says third-party hubs and docks can also be used.
Valve’s Docking Station specifications list three USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, and USB-C power passthrough. Valve lists display support up to 4K at 60 Hz or 1440p at 120 Hz. Those are the dock’s stated supported modes; actual results depend on the display, cable, power supply, and complete setup.

When comparing products, look at the connections and design that match your use:
- Whether it has the display output or outputs your screen uses.
- Whether it includes Ethernet if you want a wired network connection.
- Its USB port selection and USB-C power-delivery details.
- Size, weight, and stand design if you plan to carry it.
- Whether it fits around any protective case you leave on the Deck.
For shopping searches, try “Steam Deck USB-C dock” or “Steam Deck dock with Ethernet.” Valve describes its Docking Station as suitable for TV play, desk work, or carrying extra connectivity, and its technical specifications provide the listed ports and display modes.
Plan charging around the power supply you need
Valve specifies a 45 W USB-C PD 3.0 power supply for both LCD and OLED models, with different included cable lengths: 1.5 m for LCD and 2.5 m for OLED. A spare charger can be convenient when you want one in another location; a power bank may suit travel away from an outlet.

What to skip unless you know you need it
Accessories such as grips, stands, and screen protectors may appeal to individual users, but the specifications cited here do not establish that a particular one improves comfort, protection, or performance. Treat them as personal-fit choices: confirm the model and dimensions, look for clear product details, and buy only when the accessory addresses a need you actually have.
