The best status page tool depends on who needs updates and whether you already have outage monitoring. For customer announcements, compare public-page controls, incident workflows, notifications, and subscriber limits. For employee-only updates, verify private access. For different customer groups, look for audience-specific views. Most importantly, do not assume a hosted status page detects outages: Atlassian says its Statuspage does not directly monitor websites or servers, though it can receive updates from monitoring tools or its API.
What a status page tool does—and what it may not do
A status page is a place to communicate service conditions, incidents, and planned maintenance. It can show which components are affected and publish updates as an incident progresses. Customers or employees can consult the page and, where supported, subscribe to notifications.
That communication role is distinct from detecting an outage. Atlassian’s Statuspage documentation states: “Statuspage does not do any direct monitoring of your websites or servers, but you can integrate monitoring tools with Statuspage, or use our API to programmatically update your page.” In other words, a page can display an outage without having discovered it. Check whether a candidate bundles monitoring or expects an external monitor, alerting system, API integration, or manual update process.
Choose access based on the audience
- Public: Anyone with an internet connection can see the page. This is the straightforward model for communicating service health to customers and the public.
- Private: Access is restricted to people who are permitted to log in. This can suit employee-facing updates or systems whose status should not be public.
- Audience-specific: Separate views can present different information to different customer groups. Verify how a vendor implements this and whether it is included in the plan you need.
Atlassian documents public and private Statuspage pages, and its pricing page also lists audience-specific pages. Its public page definitions and options are described in the Statuspage documentation and pricing page.

What to compare before choosing
Incident workflow and component detail
Check how a tool represents services and how staff publish updates. In Atlassian Statuspage, components can have individual conditions such as Operational, Partial Outage, Degraded Performance, Major Outage, and Under Maintenance. Its documented incident lifecycle uses Investigating, Identified, Monitoring, and Resolved. Incidents can send subscriber notifications as updates are published. Atlassian says an Incident History link appears after the page has been operational for 14 days.
For your own process, confirm whether the product supports planned maintenance, reusable incident templates, component groups, update permissions, and a useful incident history. A long feature list matters less than whether the team can publish accurate updates promptly and consistently.
Notifications and caps
List the channels your audience and responders actually use: email, SMS, webhooks, Slack, or Microsoft Teams. Then verify which plans include each channel, as well as subscriber, component, metric, and team-member limits. A page that fits today may become expensive or constrained as the subscriber list grows.

Monitoring and integrations
Map the path from detection to customer communication. Determine which monitoring system detects the issue, who confirms it, and how an update reaches the page. Possible routes include a native integration, an API, an alerting or ticketing workflow, or a controlled manual update. An integration listing is not proof that every desired event or update is supported, so validate the exact workflow.

It also documents REST API updates, email-triggered component updates, embeddable widgets, and Twitter updates. See the Statuspage integrations page.
Access control, scale, and ownership
For internal or segmented pages, ask about authentication, roles, and who can publish updates. Compare subscriber and seat limits with the expected audience and incident team. If considering a self-hosted option, factor in who will maintain it, keep it available, and manage upgrades; verify current documentation and operational requirements rather than assuming self-hosting is effortless.

Total cost, not just the starting price
Estimate the plan required for your audience size, team, components, and notifications. Add any separate monitoring or incident-management product if the page does not include those capabilities. Also check the price and availability of private or audience-specific access, custom styling, and other features your workflow requires.

- Write down the audiences. Decide whether updates must be public, employee-only, or segmented for different customer groups.
- Set your expected scale. Estimate subscribers, responders, components, and metrics, including likely growth. Compare those numbers with plan caps.
- Draw the incident path. Identify how detection becomes a confirmed incident, who approves public wording, and how updates reach the page.

- Calculate full operating cost. Include the page, any separate monitoring or response tools, and required private access, notification channels, styling, or additional seats.

ScreenshotNeo as an adjacent developer tool
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers, not a status page or uptime monitor. It can be useful when your team needs screenshots of a page for a separate documentation, QA, or agent workflow. Its role is distinct from detecting service health or publishing incident updates. Visit ScreenshotNeo for product information.
Or skip the browser setup
A single GET request can return a screenshot or PDF; the following cURL example saves a WebP screenshot. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. - Treating the page as a monitor: Check explicitly whether the product detects outages or only communicates them.
- Choosing by advertised price alone: Subscriber caps, team seats, notification channels, and separate monitoring can change the real cost.
- Assuming an integration automates your exact workflow: Validate the events and fields it supports, including how updates are authenticated and who can publish them.
- Ignoring who can see updates: Public, private, and audience-specific access solve different communication needs. Match access to the data and audience.
- Skipping an incident rehearsal: A tool is only useful if responders can update it accurately under pressure. Test roles, templates, notifications, and resolution flow before relying on it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a status page tell customers whether a service is down automatically?
Only if the product or an integrated monitoring workflow detects the issue and updates the page. Some status page products are communication surfaces rather than monitors.
Should a business use a public or private status page?
Use a public page when updates are intended for anyone to see, a private page for restricted audiences, and audience-specific views when customer groups need different information.
Are the Statuspage prices in this article guaranteed to remain current?
No. They are figures listed on Atlassian’s public pricing page when checked on September 29, 2026; consult the live page before buying.
