There is no single soundbar proven best for every buyer in 2026. The right choice depends on whether you want a compact all-in-one bar, a more immersive Dolby Atmos setup, extra speakers you can place around the room, or features that suit gaming. Current roundups include the Samsung HW-Q990H, JBL Bar 1000MK2, Sonos Beam (Gen 2), Sonos Arc Ultra, and Sony BRAVIA Theatre Bar 6 and Bar 7—but their rankings reflect different reviewers and categories, not a universal verdict.
Which soundbar setup fits your room?
Start with the physical system you are willing to accommodate. A single bar keeps the setup compact and avoids placing separate rear speakers. A package with a subwoofer and rear speakers takes more space and setup, but can create a more enveloping presentation. Not every model offers the same upgrade path, so check whether a bar can be expanded with matching speakers if you might want them later.

- Choose a single-bar setup if you value a simpler installation, have limited space, or do not want speakers behind the listening position.
- Consider a bar, subwoofer, and rear speakers if you have room for the extra hardware and want a more immersive arrangement.
- Check expansion options if you want to begin with a bar and add components later; compatibility and available additions vary by model.

Do you need Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, or eARC?
These features matter when they solve a real compatibility or listening need. Samsung’s U.S. buying guide recommends considering Dolby Atmos and DTS:X for buyers seeking a cinematic home-audio experience; that is manufacturer guidance, not a requirement for every listener. To get the format you want, check the entire signal path: the content source, the TV’s audio output and pass-through support, and the soundbar’s format support.

HDMI ARC or eARC is the TV-to-soundbar connection to check when routing audio from the television. If you connect a game console or another HDMI source, also look at the soundbar’s HDMI inputs and passthrough capabilities. A feature listed on the bar alone does not establish that your TV and source can deliver it. Samsung’s guide and the editorial comparisons discuss these connection distinctions: Samsung’s soundbar buying guide.
How to choose for your TV, games, and budget
- Set your system boundary. Decide whether you will accept only a bar or have space and willingness to add a subwoofer or rear speakers.
- Check your TV’s outputs. Look up whether it has ARC or eARC and which audio formats it can pass to an external sound system.
- Map your sources. For a console or other HDMI device, determine whether it will connect to the TV or bar, then verify any passthrough requirement and supported formats.
- Compare complete setups, not just bars. If one option includes extra speakers and another does not, compare what you would actually need to buy and install in your region.
- Read category-specific reviews. A compact-bar pick, an Atmos-system pick, and a mid-range pick answer different questions; an overall rank may not match your priorities.
- Verify before ordering. Confirm local pricing, stock, exact model name, and compatibility. Current coverage does not establish prices or inventory for every market.
Why soundbar rankings disagree
Roundups use different categories and review methods, so one list’s top recommendation should not be treated as a universal winner. A ranking can be useful once you know what it measures and whether its test covers the configuration you plan to use. Compare the full review findings against your room, TV, sources, and preferred system size rather than relying on a position in a list.

Samsung says it was the “No.1 selling soundbar brand for 11 years (2014–2024),” attributing the claim to Futuresource Consulting in a guide marked © 2025. That is a company-attributed sales claim for the stated period, not a measure of sound quality or a 2026 product ranking: Samsung’s soundbar buying guide.
