The key distinction is where the stream runs: on a computer you manage, or through a cloud service that broadcasts prepared media. Neither model changes YouTube’s eligibility or copyright rules.

YouTube’s live-streaming requirements say a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube lists encoder streaming among its available ways to go live. Check the current requirements for your channel before scheduling a 24/7 broadcast.

A prepared relaxation stream does not inherently require a camera or microphone: the program can be an existing video and its audio. YouTube’s examples of encoder hardware are not a requirement to add those devices to a prerecorded-media setup.
Set up a local stream with OBS Studio
This is the do-it-yourself route when you want to operate the encoder yourself. Consult the OBS Help Portal for current software guidance; the exact screens may change between versions.

- Prepare the media. Choose the video and audio you have rights to use. Decide how the program should repeat, and verify that your chosen OBS workflow can loop the media and recover after an interruption; the cited OBS material does not establish a particular 24/7 loop configuration.
- Confirm YouTube access. Verify the channel and check that it meets YouTube’s live-streaming requirements before configuring an encoder.
- Create or select the YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, configure the broadcast and choose the encoder workflow. Use the stream key provided by YouTube for the broadcast.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service and enter or connect the stream key using the available workflow. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Configure and inspect the output. Set resolution, frame rate, bitrate and keyframe interval in line with YouTube’s current encoder guidance and the limits of your upload connection. The available sources do not specify recommended values, so do not assume a single bitrate or resolution is correct for every video and connection.
- Start the encoder and check YouTube. Start streaming in OBS, then confirm YouTube receives the feed and that picture and audio are correct before relying on it as a continuous broadcast.
- Plan for interruptions. A local stream depends on the computer, OBS and network connection continuing to operate. Determine how you will notice a stopped stream and restart it; do not assume a continuous loop or automatic recovery without verifying your setup.
Clear music, footage and other content for live use
YouTube says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” Its copyright guidance for live streams says a matched stream may show a placeholder image and that YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast if the third-party content continues.

Before streaming music, sound recordings, nature footage or other material you did not create, confirm both that your rights cover continuous live use on YouTube and whether the rights owner must allowlist your channel. “Royalty-free” by itself does not establish those permissions; the terms of the actual license control.

Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
- You cannot start a broadcast: check channel verification and whether live-streaming restrictions apply under YouTube’s current eligibility rules.
- YouTube interrupts the stream or shows a placeholder: check for a third-party copyright match. Stop the matched content and resolve rights and any Content ID allowlisting with the rights owner.
- A local stream stops unexpectedly: check whether the computer slept, OBS closed, or the internet connection failed. A local encoder depends on the computer and connection; verify your restart and loop behavior rather than assuming the broadcast will resume.
- The picture or sound is wrong: confirm the feed received by YouTube matches the intended media and that OBS is sending the expected output. Adjust encoder settings against YouTube’s current guidance and your connection; no universal bitrate or resolution value is established here.
- The stream key no longer works: check that OBS is using the key for the intended YouTube broadcast, and replace it in the encoder if you have reset the key in YouTube. Keep the key private.
Which option should you choose?
