Best Settings for Valor Mortis on Xbox and PC

Xbox store capabilities are not verified performance results. On PC, use Steam’s 30 FPS at 1080p Low with upscaling minimum target as a baseline, then tune cautiously.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best settings depend on your platform. On Xbox Series X|S, the store listing advertises 4K Ultra HD, HDR10 and 60 fps+, but that does not confirm a selectable graphics mode or guarantee those results in every scene. On PC, Steam lists a minimum target of 30 FPS at 1080p on Low with upscaling. For PC tuning, start with upscaling and a frame-rate cap; if performance is still poor, try reducing ray tracing, then shadows. Those PC adjustments come from an unofficial guide to the alpha demo, not verified retail-build testing.

What “best settings” means for Valor Mortis

A useful setting is not simply the one that produces the highest peak frame-rate reading. In a game described as built around parries and dashes, consistent frame pacing and clear combat visuals matter more than a brief high number. That is practical tuning advice, not a measured finding about the retail build.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The available guidance differs by platform. Xbox’s official store listing advertises display capabilities, but does not document console graphics menus, resolution modes or tested performance by console model. The PC advice is more actionable, but much of the graphics-specific guidance is based on the alpha demo. Treat it as a starting point, then judge changes on your own system.

In practice, “best” is a balance among smoothness, image clarity and the details you value. A higher graphics preset is not automatically better if it makes combat feel inconsistent, while lowering every option can sacrifice image quality unnecessarily. The current evidence does not establish a universally optimal preset, a single frame-rate cap for every PC, or a setting combination that has been validated on all Xbox consoles. The most defensible approach is to verify what your version offers, change one option at a time and compare repeatable gameplay rather than relying on a label or an isolated peak.

Xbox Series X|S: check the display before changing settings

The Xbox store listing identifies Xbox Series X|S and PC versions, advertises 4K Ultra HD, HDR10 and 60 fps+, and marks the game as Xbox Play Anywhere. These are listed capabilities, not an independent performance test or a promise that every scene runs at a particular resolution or frame rate. The available sources do not establish separate performance and quality modes, or measured results for either console model.

That distinction matters when choosing a console setting. A store capability label is not the same thing as a selectable in-game mode, and it does not say whether a particular scene uses a fixed or changing resolution. Nor does “60 fps+” identify a minimum sustained rate in every area. Until the current game menu or reliable testing confirms the available choices, avoid assuming that Series X and Series S have identical options or performance.

Check the game’s current video menu

  1. Open the game’s current video or display menu and review the options actually available on your console. The sources do not confirm the menu’s exact name, its settings, or whether it offers selectable performance and quality modes.
  2. If the game exposes a frame-rate or graphics preset, read its description and try it in a representative play session. Do not assume a named mode exists or that its label guarantees a particular frame rate.
  3. Compare how steady movement and combat feel, rather than relying on the store’s advertised 60 fps+ capability as proof of performance in every area.

For a useful comparison, keep the same display and gameplay conditions while testing. Try an area that includes ordinary movement as well as combat, and note whether the picture remains easy to read when action becomes busy. If you cannot find a mode selector, that is not evidence that a menu is missing: the listing does not promise that such controls exist.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Confirm HDR across the console, game and display

HDR10 support is advertised in the Xbox listing. For HDR to work as intended, check that your display supports HDR and that HDR is enabled in the Xbox display settings as well as in any relevant in-game option. The listing does not specify a Valor Mortis HDR calibration process or establish how its HDR implementation looks on different displays. If the image looks washed out, unusually dark or difficult to read, compare HDR enabled and disabled using the same scene and display conditions rather than assuming HDR is always preferable.

Keep brightness and other display adjustments consistent during that comparison. Otherwise, it can be hard to tell whether the difference comes from HDR or from another change. The point is not to chase a particular look based on a generic recommendation, but to choose the image that stays clear on your own screen. No specific calibration values or display model are established by the available information.

The store also advertises 4K Ultra HD, but that label should not be read as confirmation of native 4K rendering throughout gameplay. The reviewed sources do not identify the game’s internal resolution, dynamic-resolution behavior, or a console-specific resolution mode.

PC: understand the published minimum target

Steam’s listing, accessed October 13, 2026, gives the following minimum requirements and a performance target. It states that an SSD is required and describes 30 FPS at 1080p on Low with upscaling. That is a published minimum target, not a 60 FPS guarantee and not a benchmark for every PC meeting the listed specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Minimum item Steam listing
Operating system Windows 10
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel Core i5-10600K
Memory 16 GB RAM
Graphics card AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
Graphics API DirectX 12
Storage 60 GB; SSD required
Listed minimum performance target 30 FPS at 1080p on Low with upscaling

Meeting a minimum specification does not by itself ensure stable performance at settings above the listed target. Background applications, driver and game updates, cooling, and scene complexity can affect results, but the reviewed sources do not quantify those effects for Valor Mortis. If your system is near the minimum, start at the published target rather than assuming that a higher preset or frame rate will be reliable.

The minimum table is useful as a floor for planning, not as a full buying guide or a guarantee about your exact configuration. The listed processor and graphics card are examples of minimum-class components; they do not establish how every newer or older component compares. The listing also does not provide a recommended specification for 60 FPS, a high-resolution target, or maximum settings. If you are deciding whether a PC is suitable, compare every listed requirement, including the SSD and 60 GB storage figure, then treat the 30 FPS target as the only performance point stated alongside those minimum requirements.

Steam lists DirectX 12 as the graphics API and Windows 10 as the operating system requirement. The specifications do not state a separate launch command, driver version, or system tweak that guarantees better performance. Avoid treating community tips or a single player’s result as an official requirement or expected result for all systems.

PC: a practical order for tuning graphics

The settings recommendations below are demo-era guidance from unofficial third-party pages. One performance guide says its advice is based on the alpha demo and warns that settings and optimization may change before full release. The recommendations are therefore sensible tests, not verified launch-build results or quantified settings comparisons.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use a methodical order so you can tell what helped. Start from a known baseline, make one change, and revisit the same type of scene. Record whether smoothness improves and whether the image remains clear enough for you. Changing several options together can make a result difficult to interpret: if performance changes, you will not know which adjustment mattered. A later game update may also change how an option behaves, so repeat the check after a substantial update rather than assuming an earlier result still applies.

1. Start with a target your PC can sustain

Use the Steam minimum target—30 FPS at 1080p on Low with upscaling—as a baseline if your hardware is around the listed minimum. If your PC is more capable, increase your target cautiously and check whether it remains steady during demanding sections. No reviewed source establishes a reliable frame rate for a particular PC configuration beyond that published minimum target.

Do not confuse a desired target with a result your hardware can hold. A reading that briefly exceeds your target does not show that the same rate will persist through effects-heavy scenes. For combat, a stable experience that you can sustain may be more useful than a higher setting combination that feels uneven. This is a practical decision rule rather than a claim about a measured responsiveness threshold for Valor Mortis.

2. Enable upscaling, then check image clarity

The demo-era performance guide describes upscaling as a major performance lever and recommends beginning with a quality-oriented upscaling option. Upscaling can reduce the rendering load by producing the displayed image from a lower internal resolution, but the available guide does not provide a verified list of launch-build upscaling choices or comparative measurements. Select an option available in your current game menu, then inspect fine detail and combat readability as well as performance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Think of this as a compromise to assess, not an automatic win. If an option gives you smoother play but makes details less clear to you, try another available quality level or return to the previous setting before moving on. The sources do not establish which upscaling technology the final game uses, what names appear in its menu, or the visual difference between its modes. Do not assume that an option described as “quality” will behave identically across builds or hardware.

  • BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.

3. Apply a frame-rate cap for steadier pacing

The same demo-era guide recommends a frame-rate cap. Treat the cap as a pacing tool: choose a value your system can hold in demanding scenes instead of setting it to a peak number reached only briefly. The guide does not establish a single best cap for all hardware, and the sources do not provide a verified retail-build test that identifies one. If a cap makes the experience feel less responsive or does not improve consistency on your system, compare behavior with it disabled.

For a fair test, use a repeatable section and avoid raising the cap at the same time that you change resolution or image quality. The aim is to find out whether a cap improves consistency on your machine, not to presume that every cap is beneficial. If you cannot tell whether a small change helped, return to the previous setting and make a larger, isolated comparison instead of stacking adjustments.

4. Reduce ray tracing if performance remains weak

An unofficial settings guide identifies ray tracing as a setting to reduce for better performance. Try turning it down or off, if your current build exposes the option, before changing several other settings at once. That order comes from the guide, not from controlled side-by-side testing of the retail game. Change one setting, replay a comparable section and note whether frame pacing improves and whether the visual difference is acceptable.

A separate third-party performance report describes a top-end system running at around 80 FPS at 1440p maximum settings with ray tracing, but also reports dips below 60 in scenes with water, fire and heavy effects. That result is not a reliable target for an ordinary PC, and it does not quantify how much ray tracing alone contributes to the reported performance. It does reinforce why you should test demanding scenes rather than drawing conclusions from a quiet area.

5. Lower shadows next if you still need headroom

The demo-era performance guide also recommends reducing shadows when performance remains poor. Test a lower shadow setting after ray tracing so you can tell which adjustment helps on your hardware. Neither source provides measured performance gains for particular shadow levels, so avoid assuming that one step will produce a specific number of additional frames.

If the option is not present in your current menu, skip this step rather than trying to force it through an undocumented tweak. The available guidance does not establish all options included in the retail build or whether shadows are divided into multiple controls. A change is useful only if it is available, reproducible and improves your own balance of smoothness and image quality.

6. Revisit image quality only after performance stabilizes

Once performance is consistent, raise image-quality options one at a time and repeat the same kind of gameplay check. The available material does not support a ranked, quantified comparison of every graphics setting in the retail build. A controlled personal comparison—same scene, same resolution, one change at a time—is more useful than copying a preset recommendation made for different hardware or a different build.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This order also helps avoid an easy mistake: lowering several settings preemptively and then not knowing whether the result was necessary. If your system is already holding the experience you want, keep the current balance. If it is not, return to the highest-impact suggestions in sequence—upscaling, a cap, ray tracing and then shadows—while remembering that those priorities come from unofficial demo-era advice rather than a verified benchmark ranking.

Compare settings by the trade-off, not by a promised number

The available PC guidance suggests a practical comparison across five areas, but it does not supply controlled measurements for the retail build. Upscaling and resolution are the first place to look when balancing rendering load with image clarity. Ray tracing and shadows are the recommended next adjustments if you need more performance headroom. A frame-rate cap is intended to help with pacing rather than image quality. These are tuning priorities, not quantified claims about how many frames each setting saves.

When you compare options, ask two separate questions: did the change improve consistency, and did it make the picture harder to read? The answer can differ by PC and by the scene. One player may prefer more detail; another may prioritize steadier movement during combat. Without side-by-side launch-build measurements, there is no evidence-based universal order beyond the demo-era suggestions above and no basis for promising a particular performance gain.

How to interpret PC performance reports

A third-party Valor Mortis guide reports around 80 FPS at 1440p on maximum settings with ray tracing on a top-end machine, with dips below 60 FPS in scenes involving water, fire and heavy effects. The page does not establish a controlled benchmark or a retail-build result, and it does not identify a publication year in the reviewed material. Use that report only as an illustration that demanding scenes may behave differently from less complex ones—not as a performance expectation for your PC.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is particularly important not to compare that number directly with Steam’s minimum target. The Steam figure is a stated minimum target of 30 FPS at 1080p on Low with upscaling; the third-party figure is a report for a top-end machine at 1440p and maximum settings with ray tracing. They describe different conditions and have different levels of reliability. Neither establishes performance for a PC between those configurations.

There are no reviewed organizational statistics that establish typical player frame rates, common hardware or a general percentage of players achieving a given result. Do not infer that a particular GPU will match the reported figures without a test on that configuration.

PC controller support and input choice

Steam lists full controller support. An Xbox-compatible controller is an optional input choice for PC players; it is not a performance upgrade and is not required to meet the PC specifications. Choose between controller and keyboard-and-mouse based on the controls and aiming or movement feel you prefer. The available sources do not establish that a specific controller model offers an advantage.

The Xbox store lists a PC version, while Steam lists full controller support, so an Xbox-compatible controller is a reasonable accessory if you prefer that input style. It should be treated as a comfort or control preference only. It does not raise frame rate, substitute for meeting the listed PC requirements, or guarantee better gameplay. No model-specific advantage or required accessory is established by the available information.

Availability and what the listings do not establish

Steam’s page showed an October 13, 2026 release date alongside a not-yet-available notice when accessed on October 13, 2026. That listing alone does not settle whether the game became available later that day, in every region, or on every platform. Check the current store and game menus for availability and the settings present in your build.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Valor Mortis have a Performance Mode on Xbox Series X|S?

The Xbox store listing advertises 4K Ultra HD, HDR10 and 60 fps+, but it does not confirm a selectable Performance Mode or Quality Mode. Check the current in-game video menu rather than assuming a mode exists.

What FPS should I expect on PC?

Steam lists a minimum target of 30 FPS at 1080p on Low with upscaling. That is not a 60 FPS guarantee. A third-party guide reports around 80 FPS at 1440p maximum settings with ray tracing on a top-end PC, with dips below 60 in demanding scenes, but it is not a controlled retail-build benchmark.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What PC settings should I lower first for better performance?

Demo-era unofficial guidance recommends starting with upscaling and a frame-rate cap, then reducing ray tracing if performance is still weak and lowering shadows next. Verify that those options appear in your current build and test one change at a time; the advice is not confirmed for a retail launch build.

Does Valor Mortis require an SSD on PC?

Yes. Steam’s listed minimum requirements specify 60 GB of storage and require an SSD.

Do I need an Xbox controller to play Valor Mortis on PC?

No. Steam lists full controller support, making an Xbox-compatible controller an optional input choice. It is not required by the PC specifications and does not improve performance.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Xbox store labels advertise 4K Ultra HD, HDR10 and 60 fps+, but they do not confirm console modes or measured performance in every scene. On PC, Steam’s minimum target is 30 FPS at 1080p on Low with upscaling, and an SSD is required. Treat upscaling, frame caps, ray tracing and shadow adjustments as demo-era tuning suggestions: test them one at a time in your current build and keep the balance that feels clear and consistent on your hardware.
