There is no officially verified “best” Ninjala setup for every player. Start with a button layout you can use reliably, choose TV or Handheld Mode for how you are playing, and treat camera and gyro options as comfort choices—not competitive prescriptions. Change one thing at a time and check the setup before a match.
What are the best Ninjala settings?
The best practical starting point is a familiar control preset, with only the buttons that feel awkward remapped. Use gyro only if you want to move your viewpoint by tilting the controller, and select the display mode that matches your play situation. The official manual does not identify a universally best button layout, camera setting, or motion sensitivity.

For new players, Control Type E is one onboarding option: GungHo described it as a beginner-oriented preset that adjusts Auto-Target, Reset Camera, Gum Utsusemi, and button settings. That description does not make it the right layout for every player. Read the Season 5 announcement.

Ninjala offers preset button configurations and lets you customize all buttons. A preset is usually easier to learn if its actions feel natural; a custom layout can help when important actions are awkward to reach or remember. Make small changes, then practice the new layout before changing more.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazing New Settings
- Open the game’s Options menu and choose a preset that feels familiar.
- Try the layout in play. Note actions that are difficult to reach or repeat reliably.
- Customize only those buttons, then spend time using the revised layout before making further changes.
- Check settings before starting a match: the manual says miscellaneous settings cannot be changed mid-battle.
The manual describes preset and custom button settings, but does not establish one layout as best for all players. See Ninjala’s System Settings manual.
Should I use motion controls in Ninjala?
Gyroscope controls change your viewpoint in response to controller movement and tilt. The manual explains: “Gyroscope controls will track the tilting and movement of your controller and allow you to adjust your viewpoint.” You need a controller with a gyroscope sensor to use the feature. Joy-Con controllers have motion-control support; buying a separate controller is not required simply to change settings. Ninjala System Settings manual.

| Choice | May suit you if… | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Gyro on | You want to adjust your viewpoint by tilting or moving the controller, and your controller has a gyroscope. | Controller movement also moves the viewpoint, which may feel distracting until you are accustomed to it. |
| Gyro off | You prefer not to use controller tilt to adjust your viewpoint. | You give up that motion-based viewpoint adjustment. |
The official material does not publish a universally best gyro sensitivity. If you try gyro, start with it off or at a low level if available, then make small adjustments in a safe practice setting. This is a practical tuning approach, not a developer-recommended sensitivity value.
How do I change the camera in Ninjala?
Choose a view that helps you keep opponents visible without making movement uncomfortable, if your current mode offers a camera choice. The official manual documents sky, fixed-stage, and behind-the-player angles for spectators; it does not establish those as battle-camera options or rank battle views competitively. For spectators, the manual gives the shortcut ZL, then A to change camera settings. See the Ninjala spectator manual.

- New stages and fighters are joined by the combined rosters of every past Super Smash Bros. Game
- Challenge others anytime, anywhere, whether you're on the couch or on the go
- Play any way you want—locally, online, in TV mode, Tabletop mode, Handheld mode, or even with GameCube Controllers
- Fight faster and smarter with new and returning techniques, like the perfect shield and directional air dodge
- Face off in 2-4 player battles, or play against the computer
Because the documented spectator controls do not prove that the same choices exist during battles, use the options available in your current mode rather than assuming there is a particular battle-camera menu or best angle.
Which display mode should I use?
Ninjala’s manual says to use TV Mode when the Switch is connected to a TV, and Handheld Mode at other times. Check the mode and other settings before a match, since miscellaneous settings cannot be changed mid-battle. See the System Settings manual.

How do I fix Switch motion controls that feel off?
If motion input seems inaccurate, Nintendo’s calibration instructions provide a system-level check. For motion calibration, place the controller on a flat, stable surface when prompted and follow the on-screen steps.
