Choose The Expanse for solar-system politics and alien technology; for shows listed in Apple’s US sci-fi catalog, try Silo for a dystopian mystery, Severance for an identity puzzle, or For All Mankind for alternate-history space exploration. These are matches by premise, not interchangeable versions of the same kind of science fiction.

| If you want… | Try | What carries over | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Space politics, solar-system scale, and alien technology | The Expanse | Earth and human colonies are drawn into conflict, while alien technology changes humanity’s trajectory. Its broad stakes are balanced by an ensemble perspective. TVLine | It is set across a solar system, not a galactic empire. Its current streaming service and regional availability have not been verified here. |
| A closed society, hidden truths, and power struggles | Silo | A woman questions the official account of life in an underground silo, amid political maneuvering over concealed answers. Apple lists it in its US sci-fi collection. Apple TV+ catalog; TheWrap | The story confines its focus to one society rather than a far-reaching galactic setting. |
| A cerebral mystery about identity and free will | Severance | Workers’ work selves are separated from their outside selves, raising questions about personhood and choice. TheWrap | It is a workplace mystery, not a space opera. Apple lists it in its US sci-fi collection. Apple TV+ catalog |
| Spaceflight through an alternate-history lens | For All Mankind | It imagines the Soviet Union reaching the Moon first, then explores political and social consequences over decades. Apple describes it as a “what if” take on the space race. TheWrap; Apple TV+ catalog | It starts in a recognizable historical setting rather than a far-future empire. |
| Parallel realities and an intimate thriller | Dark Matter | A man is displaced from his own life by another version of himself; Apple lists the show in its US sci-fi collection as a thriller. TheWrap; Apple TV+ catalog | Its appeal is multiverse suspense, not empire-scale world-building. |
| Political resistance in a familiar space-fantasy universe | Andor | It follows Cassian Andor’s path toward rebellion and depicts everyday life under imperial rule. TVLine | It belongs to Star Wars, so franchise context may matter if you are new to that universe. Current service and regional availability have not been verified here. |
Which Apple TV+ shows are the closest fit?
For a mystery with political stakes: Silo
Silo is a natural choice if the collapsing order and struggle over knowledge in Foundation appealed to you, but you are happy to trade interstellar scope for a single, sealed community. Its central question is what the people underground have been told—and what power protects those answers.

For speculative ideas about identity: Severance
Severance swaps political history and space travel for an unsettling workplace premise. Watch it if you want a show that makes its science-fiction concept the source of both its mystery and its questions about the self.

For space exploration rooted in history: For All Mankind
For All Mankind is the pick for viewers drawn to the consequences of spaceflight, but who prefer an alternate version of modern history to a fictional galactic civilization. Its starting point is the space race, with imagined political and social changes unfolding across decades.
#1 Best Overall
For a multiverse thriller: Dark Matter
Dark Matter is a more intimate, suspense-driven option: its premise centers on a man confronting another version of himself and a life that is no longer his. Choose it for parallel realities rather than a large cast of factions or a sweeping historical arc.
Apple’s US sci-fi catalog also lists Pluribus, Invasion, and See alongside Foundation and the Apple shows above. That page reflects the US storefront, not a guarantee that every regional catalog is the same; titles and availability can change.

Is The Expanse the best follow-up to Foundation?
If your favorite part of Foundation is the combination of political factions, large-scale consequences, and technology that reshapes human history, The Expanse is the strongest thematic match in this shortlist. TVLine describes a conflict involving Earth and human colonies, with alien technology altering humanity’s course. It grounds that broad conflict in an ensemble rather than relying only on the scale of its setting. TVLine

What to know about Foundation’s current story
Apple describes Foundation as an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s novels, following exiles trying to save humanity and rebuild civilization as the Galactic Empire falls. Apple’s season 3 page gives July 11, 2025 as that season’s release date. Apple’s Foundation press page
Apple’s US catalog says another season is coming but, in the catalog material reviewed as of October 4, 2026, gives no future release date. Treat the catalog as a current US listing rather than a schedule for every market. Apple TV+ catalog
If you want to explore the story’s source material, Asimov’s Foundation novels are an optional companion to the adaptation, not a prerequisite for watching any of the series recommended here. Apple identifies the novels as the basis for the show. Apple’s Foundation press page
