What changes when you switch from the Active2?
The Active2 is a Samsung watch, but Android compatibility alone does not guarantee that every feature works on every handset. Samsung’s US support page lists the Active2 for Samsung Android phones on Android 5.0 or later with at least 1.5 GB RAM, and for non-Samsung Android phones on Android 6.0 or later with at least 1.5 GB RAM. Samsung also says support can vary by region, operator, and phone brand. These are Samsung’s published requirements; consult its live support page for your region and device.
Samsung warns that some manufacturer features may have limited support on non-Samsung phones, and says Samsung Pay is available only on Samsung smartphones. Do not carry the Active2’s compatibility figures forward to a newer Galaxy Watch: Samsung lists different minimums for newer models. For example, its US guidance specifies Android 11+ for Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra on non-Samsung phones, Android 10+ for Galaxy Watch FE, Android 8+ and at least 1.5 GB RAM for Watch6, and Android 6+ and at least 1.5 GB RAM for Watch4. Requirements may differ by region. Samsung’s model and phone compatibility guidance

Google’s 2026 Wear OS 7 announcement describes Android Live Updates on the wrist and connected-device controls. Google also says system optimizations improve battery life “by up to 10%.” That is Google’s platform claim, not a guaranteed gain for every watch or use pattern, and the announcement says Wear OS 7 is rolling out to eligible Pixel Watch devices—it does not establish that every candidate receives the update.
