For a typical slow-moving 1080p loop made at 30 fps, start with 1080p30, H.264 at 14 Mbps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval. Use 1080p60 only when the source contains meaningful 60-fps motion and your sustained upload can support the higher bitrate with about 20% headroom. These are YouTube live-ingest recommendations, not settings for uploading a finished video.
Recommended 1080p settings for YouTube Live
YouTube’s live-encoder guidance, accessed October 3, 2026 (publication date not shown), varies by resolution, frame rate, and codec. Choose the row matching the source and the codec your Restream path supports.

These are YouTube’s displayed recommendations, not independent performance measurements. If your stable upload cannot sustain the recommended rate plus headroom, lower the bitrate or step down the resolution or frame rate rather than targeting a rate likely to drop frames.

30 fps or 60 fps?
Match the stream to the source. For a mostly static image, slideshow, ambient scene, or other slow-moving loop recorded at 30 fps, 1080p30 is usually the sensible starting point. 60 fps is useful when the source actually contains fluid 60-fps motion; sending a 30-fps source at 60 fps does not create that missing motion and raises the recommended bitrate. This is a practical inference from the source characteristics and YouTube’s separate ingest recommendations.

- Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS.
- Rate control: CBR.
- Keyframes: every 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Audio: AAC or MP3. YouTube’s listed audio guidance is 128 kbps stereo at 44.1 kHz.
- SDR color: Rec. 709, 8-bit. YouTube’s advanced guidance also calls for square pixels and progressive scan.
Use codec-specific settings only if the encoder or Restream workflow you choose supports that codec, protocol, and audio configuration.
Calculate upload headroom before streaming
The outgoing stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving 20% room; for one stream, that means a connection should sustain roughly 1.25 times the selected stream bitrate. For example, a 14 Mbps stream calls for about 17.5 Mbps of sustained upload capacity as a planning target. This is a calculation from YouTube’s headroom recommendation, not a separate YouTube bitrate setting.

Measure upload performance, not just download speed, and test under realistic network conditions. If sending both a primary and backup stream, account for the total outgoing bitrate of both. Network interruptions can break a live stream, so a speed-test result alone does not establish that the connection will remain stable.

Keep the stream key private
The stream URL and stream key direct the encoder to YouTube. YouTube describes the key as password-like: do not publish it, share it casually, or expose it in a screenshot. A reusable custom key can preserve settings between streams. If a key is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live controls and update the encoder using the new key.

Choose visibility, latency, and DVR deliberately
- Visibility: choose public, private, or unlisted according to who should be able to view the stream.
- Latency: lower latency can increase playback buffering. For a prerecorded loop without live interaction, the lowest latency may not be important.
- DVR: this lets viewers pause and resume a live stream.
- Scheduling: schedule the stream if you want it to appear as an upcoming event rather than starting without notice.
Preflight the encoder and preview
- Configure the encoder for the source-matched resolution and frame rate, a supported codec, the matching YouTube bitrate recommendation, CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval.
- Enter the YouTube stream URL and secret stream key in the encoder or the relevant Restream connection settings.
- Start a test with representative movement and audio. Verify that the feed appears in YouTube’s preview and that the image, sound, and motion are correct.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health status and messages while testing and after going live; adjust bitrate or output settings if the connection cannot sustain them.
- If keeping a local archive, check that the recorded file is intact and plays correctly.
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder ahead of an event and checking stream health. The exact Restream interface and loop controls can change; confirm the current menu path and any account or duration limits in Restream itself or its official documentation. YouTube ingest settings do not establish that a particular Restream plan supports a continuous loop.
Copyright and prerecorded-loop considerations
Before looping a recording, make sure you have the rights needed for every video and audio element, including music, performance, and any third-party footage. A live stream can be interrupted or restricted if it uses material you are not authorized to stream. For a practical preflight, use StreamNeo’s copyright safety checklist. YouTube ingest settings cannot establish that a video is cleared for use, nor do they guarantee how YouTube will treat repetitive or reused material.

Troubleshooting common 1080p loop problems
